Mass Effect is a single player game and it should stay in that was (some multiplayer elements are ok).

MMO is the worst genre is gaming.
There is a very large subset of the gaming community that disagrees.
Who? 90% of the basement dwellers?

But what if you could experience a Mass Effect MMO? Not swtor, not wow, not aion or rift or warhammer.
What I'm suggesting is a game that is Mass Effect. It's the same world and gameplay, only with multiple people finding their own stories in an open universe. That's more appealing to me than letting the franchise end entirely.

Probably 100% of the basement dwellers, and a whole lot of other people too.

ME MMO not good idea.

About 99% of fans from the beginning will object to it (me included), while newcomers will think it's a cool idea.

MMOs are not just for basement dwellers. They can be a bounding experience for couples and families. Mainly they require people with regular free time.
ME MMO would be fine, but BW can't expect all of the same people who play ME, ME2, and ME3 to do the MMO, simply because we have that one thing not in common with MMOers, we don't know when we can relax and play. That is what makes someone who exclusively like single player campaigns, that we can play on our time and don't need to form clans/guilds and be subject to a CO-OP schedule.

Story mode with a drop in/drop out feature so your friends can join your story and you can join theirs, like Fable. You shape the world on your own time and let your buds see how you did things and to add a cherry on top, a ship for you to plan mission runs with them and design your own operations to share online like Halo and Forge.
Perfection.

Bioware, seriously ! Please don't make a Mass effect MMO.

If you where to ask me this question a year ago I would have said "hell yah!" However now I feel an MMO tag would do nothing but harm the lore / gameplay / combat /. Case in point, does anyone actually think SWTOR is better then KOTOR 1 or 2? I sure don't.
To be fair, TOR is (As far as I know) Bioware's first foray into the MMO genre. It's not THAT bad and it is pretty well done for first timers. It won't dethrone WoW and I forsee it going Free to Play in the coming years, but all in all, it's a good job. I give it a B+.

That's acturally the MMO that has captured me the most... But no it is not better than KOTOT 1... But WAAAAAAY better than KOTOR 2. What can you expect?? KOTOR 2 is not even Bioware!

Not really into MMO's, but people whinned about mass effect having multiplayer and that turned out great.
I was worried about this as well, and still am. Adding a basic mutiplaying extension to a game is not too damming to a game. MMO's are an entire different beast tho. Think you can take the interface (and engine) of Mass Effect and plug it into an MMO? Good luck with that, the rich enviroments we have would collapse into low res garbage beause of rendering more gameworld and far more users on the screen. Not to meantion you cant really make a Mass Effect MMO on current console hardware.
I really don't think they could make a MMO of this series work, main reason is. You are the hero, savior of the universise (and you alone) thats a core system in the mass effect univerise thats not easily transplantable into an mmo.

It's not the core system that would be the problem. The problem would most likely be the community. MMO communities tend to become very toxic very quickly, due to everyone having a different idea of where the game should go. You'd get the usual arguements like "I pay this much, it should be easier" "I pay that much as well, it should be harder" "Focus more on the PvE!" "Focus more on the PvP" "These people suck because they play this way!" "Those people suck because they play that way" and the usual monikers of Casual, Elitist and Bad.
What I think these Pro-MMO people want is to just play the game with their friends, which is why the multiplayer is such a huge boon and why it is a far better venue than an MMO. You can play with your friends, you can play with random people and you can all share the same experience as you would in the single player, with the combat and the locations and such. With the MMO route, you do the same but it gets bogged down by everyone wanting the game their way and any other way would make them "quit".
As I stated before, now that we have the multiplayer, we don't need to make an MMO. Just expand it to a full game with a campaign that you control that others can freely visit. It could even have varying difficulties like the Bronze, Silver and Gold settings and bam, everyone is happy. You get a game tailored to your whim and your friends can experience it with you. And if they find they don't like it, they can return to their game where everything is to their specifications.

I agree with you again. It'd be great to have fun with your friends, going to missions, having dialogue and fighting the enemies. But I don't think it needs static world of MMO's and other "lolololol" players to ruin the mood.

Indeed. What you just described is the "Fantasy" MMO. No I don't mean fantasy like Warcraft, I mean fantasy like that's how you picture what playing an MMO would be like. That's actually the main draw gamers have to the MMO genre. You want to go in, have fun with friends, do stuff together and enjoy yourselves. Of course the reality is far different and less appealing.

Edit: After giving it some thought, I don't think I would want one either. Mainly due to the fact that I don't want to deal with the stupid MMO player that doesn't care at all about ME and only cares about being the best in PVP or PVE. I hate elitist jerks....and trolls.
