The Makatak - I agree with you - I dont use a sniper rifle on my adept but the lack of splash damage on a stasis-headshot isn't always down to the adept. I hate when I set up a stasis bubble only to find the infiltrator next to me has headshot the guy before I can explode him. It's annoying but I wouldn't like to start dictating how others should play purely because it suits me better.
True that, and I face the same problem with my adept. I've kind of gotten a little over it because if I notice it happening, I'll just stasis and move on to the next target (I've long since stopped caring about personal points; if it's Silver/Gold I really just want to survive). And stasis explosion kind of seems bugged anyways. But it's still trés annoying.

ps: i think revenant can be effective in combination with the Turian's weapon stability bonuses.. even then it's still difficult to keep a bead on the enemy head region, but it can really mow down a danger zone.. haven't experimented with it much with other classes. Also - shotgun infiltrators: more effective than snipers?

Ah, I once met an asari adept with revenant and widow...
lmao! i've seen a krogan soldier who had a sniper, me and my buddy were laughing about it the whole game. imagining a krogan sniper hiding in the bushes taking out enemies, it just doesnt fit.
personally i only use a sniper with my salarian infiltrator, but a lot of others dont think the same way. i personally dont mind as long as the whole team isnt sniping, it just throws off my game when i see somebody playing a character completely wrong (like you mentioned, asari adept with revenant and widow). that is my favorite char, and i just slap a pistol on her so the recharge bonus is like 200%. it pains me to see a crappy asari adept, as that is my favorite + class / race i am best with.

I used the Viper on my Asari Adept and it has nearly the same weight as the Carnifex (I didn't have Carnifex at the time). It didn't interfere with my ability to use biotics at all.Thoragoros wrote...
It is especially annoying to see powerful support classes, such as the Asari Adept and the Engineer, using super-heavy weapons such as the revenant or any sniper rifle.
If you are an Asari Adept, the team will benefit greatly from you using stasis and biotic combos, same for Engineer using his various anti-armor and anti-shield powers, but using a Sniper Rifle, a Revenant, or virtualyl any Assault Rifle+Pistol combo will dramamtically increase your recharge times.
First off, very few Snipers used the Viper rifle, most go Mantis or Widow, whicha re incredibly heavy. Even with weight bonuses, the Mantis brings cooldown to 140%, which is a noticeable drop from 200%, while most widow setups bring the use into negative or single digit territory.
Also, Viper Rifles are incredibly weak without the Cloak-Damage bonus, severely limiting its use for anyone but the Infiltrator or Soldier. Besides, most players don't have the Level X upgrade on their guns, so in most cases the weight is not the same as the Canrifex.

Then there is the fact that if I snipe the unshielded, unarmored Cerbys with my SR at its current level it will insta kill them if shoot them in the head or chest.

I can't speak for the higher levels, I used the Viper on Bronze where the stasis bonus made the Viper quite effective damage-wise.Thoragoros wrote...

Most of all, it's just a really fun way to play the Adept.

I load my sentinel with a Scimitar and a scoped Avenger and play it like a short-up soldier with biotics for debuffs (warp) and Throws to keep Guardians and Atlas's off balance (and to keep pesky troopers from face-stomping my partners). A scoped pistol setup is great if you want to play biotic-heavy (prefer the Phalanx over the carnifex), but I would put a Mantis or a Viper on a Turian.
A Viper isn't a bad medium-long weapon to put on a class, since it's lightweight and has plenty of ammunition, but putting a Widow on an Engineer or Adept is just plain being 'that guy'. Widow is a blatant sniper weapon, just like the Claymore is a blatant krogan weapon, or a Revenant for Soldiers.
There shouldn't be more than one 'sniper' on a team to steamroll Silver or survive Gold. Ideally, you have at least a 1-2 soldier/sentinel playing the position-game and the last slot(s) with people flinging powers like stasis, singularity, or overload (Poor quarian engineers) at everything in sight. Snipers need to be cautious and watch their backs because they're looking at everyone elses!

Seriously, I was playing with an Adept, a Soldier, and a Sentinel, and everyone was using sniper rifles. Probably why we didn't get all the way through.
Just doesn't make any sense.
I've just tested a Vanguard with the Widow and the Tempest tonight.
Rather than waiting for my teammates to take out the turret or the Atlas or what have you; I simply use the Widow to take out the heavy targets myself.
If any enemies get too close; switch to the Tempest and Shoot-> Charge-> Heavy Melee-> Shoot.
Using that method I just won a Silver Mode in first place with 55k.
So yeah I'd say sniper rifles have a place for Vanguards at least.

The whole "rifles are bad for CQC!" argument seems absurd to me in the context of pretty much all video games. The biggest reason that rifles are difficult to use in house to house fighting is the length and weight of the weapons. Games never implement these restrictions in any meaningful way because it would be incredibly awkward and annoying. Furthermore, the actual stopping power of SMGs and even ARs in this game in particular seems ridiculously awful when compared to sniper rifles and pistols.
Now, I can totally agree with the argument that people who are bad at using rifles shouldn't be using them, but that's a different argument altogether. You don't need to sit in one place all day and you don't need to stare down your scope 99% of the time. If your team is actually good at, y'know, playing vidya gaems... a whole team of accurate fire support hardly seems like a bad idea so long as at least one of them is an adept.

I think people use sniper rifles to maximise their kill count. There is nothing wrong with that but casters need setup time to kill things while sniping is almost instant. It gets a bit frustrating playing a caster sometimes when you cant combo anything because of 3 other team members tripping over themselves to snipe your target mid-combo.
The funny thing is, skill is more important than setup in determining score. Using the Predator on my Asari Adept with a bunch of random Silver sniping players regularly gets me top score. Hell, if the players aren't that skilled, Revenant on my Asari Adept nets me top score. (Note: I'm good, but by no means a great player, to put it in perspective).
My point is, unless the sniping players are skilled marksmen, using the sniper just to get more points is a bit silly.

As a rule of thumb Sniper Rifles & Heavy Pistols pack a lot of punch with reasonably low exposure. It makes sense [esp. at lower diff. levels] to carry weapons like this.
Granted 4 Snipers is a little odd but if you have several people that have powers that let them do well at close range then there shouldn't be much of an issue.
I see. That's understandable.
And for the bolded part, our problem was that none of them--an adept, a sentinel, and a freaking soldier--was even moving, they were all sitting in one spot. I was the only one moving around, trying to flank, CQC-ing, and thus dying when several enemies would center on me.

The real question is why do infiltrators use sniper rifles instead of doing what they are supposed to do. shield bust and rez pony?
Obviously OP's team lost instead he tried to play a sniper, instead of team player.
What? Au contrare, our team lost because three people were playing sniper and I was the one running around doing close-quarters-combat.
And perhaps I'm just too much of a single player n00b, but what in the world does "shield bust and rez pony " mean?
