Well he was straight at the time DA2 was being made. The writer actually said that Shepard is straight and ME3 would not be like DA2.

But like many other things, it turned out to not be the case.

They never, ever said that. Ever. 

They actually said "Shepard is a pre-defined character", which is weasel words for "we didn't include gay stuff in ME because of [reasons], and now that a journalist asked us the question I'm flailing to find a response".

In Mass Effect's case, "pre-defined character" is... whatever Bioware defined her or him as. Nothing more, nothing less. 

Given ME3, it clearly wasn't straight.

Anyway kudos to Bioware for finally including gay relationships in the game despite how homophobic gaming community apparently is.

But only towards m/m relationships. I never once saw complaints about f/f romances in Bioware games but there's always an uproar about the m/m romances especially as time went on. Some of the ridiculous stuff said about DA2's universal romance options were ridiculous. Nobody is forcing you to be gay. You can play as straight Shep and have all the straight sex all over the galaxy you want.

It's not even a case of being "politically correct" it's just including everyone. There is no agenda of sexuality of politics. You can make your Shepard into what race you want and now you can be what sexuality you want with romancable characters also being what sexuality you wish. Maybe in your universe Ashley is straight and wants her some tough manly rugged male Shep and in mine and others universes maybe Ashley prefers women (she never really specified for fem shep you just never had the chance to hit on her)  and it's the same for Kaiden or other male characters maybe in another players game they are gay. Mass Effect's main theme has always been about creating your own Shepard and telling your own story and sexuality can and should be a part of that in a game that includes romantic relationships as part of it's story.

I find it sickening to see that two women are acceptable together cause thye are 'hot' while two men aren't, it is just plain pathetic, I really am losing hope in humanity with all this crap lol

Without looking at the footage and spoiling anything (not particularly the homosexual scene, but maybe the reveal of the character or something else), I'm happy to see the good response this is getting from some players. I can only imagine the heterosexual and lesbian sex scenes to be great as well.

I play a male Shepard because I like the idea of a manly man saving the galaxy. I've played with the female Shepard and don't get the same feel. While I know it's tottaly optional I still don't think this scene fits the game, at all.

So, gays and women ain't good enough to save the galaxy. OK

Just look at the comments and you will know. Of course people try to hide behind "I just disliked it because I thought the dialogue was bad", but we all know what this is really about and the comments are living proof, this thread included

They baily said anything in the scene...Lovely way to judge a romance when it's a scene take out of context.

Or you can just do what a real hero does and avoid romance altogether. No one is forcing anyone to be gay. Gay romances were put in ME2 via mods anyway. We straight people can just avoid them.
