It's not all sunshine and rainbows. You think that any war we've ever had ended "happily" lots of people died. Granted this is a video game and on the grand scale of things people that die in war deserve a lot more respect, Bioware stated a long time ago the endings won't be happy.
you people would have still moaned and ****ed if the ending was "Oh yeah, we kicked the reapers ass now we live in peace"
Oh look, more sunshine and rainbows talk. How refreshing.
Did you forget about the bunnies? Or leave them out on purpose? You know, to show how original you are.

Pretty sure all the people that spent $100+ (the pretty much base minimum in the states, even with buying the first two games used with all the price drops) didn't expect that kind of response from the ending. All those poor nuts...

I went outside into the real world today. The graphics were nice, but the gameplay and story were boring.
The motto of this comment of mine? This is a video-game, not real-life. If I want to enjoy real-life, I go outside. If I want to enjoy an epic space adventure, I play a video-game.
I don't play video-games to be confronted with negativity, pessimism, issues and bitter moments, I got plenty of that sh*t in real-life already. I play video-games to enjoy, relax and escape real-life for a brief moment.

It's like no one here has been a part of any other media bar Disney movies, or worse, somehow act like they own ME3 and Bioware should listen to them rather than create the story that Bioware wanted.

You don't get it. BioWare should not create a story THEY want, BioWare should create a story WE want.
Creating a product that THEY want and not keeping in mind what WE want it bad for business. They're not going to make a whole lot of sales if they keep up that attitude.

I play games as form of escapism, it's a coping mechanism.
So having nothing but grim endings doesn't really apeal to me.

I'd also like to know this.
All Bioware's stated about the end is that all of our decisions come to fruition.
Unfortunately, "fruition" seems to amount to slight changes in cutscenes and a few emails.
Hell, even characters that died in previous games are simply cut and repasted with a similar model and slightly altered dialogue that STILL reaches the same general conclusion (Wrex being replaced in ME2, for example).

This.
I want to finish it for my own sake, but I also feel that giving Bioware my money isn't in my own interest.
I'm above pirating (which I would say, even if I wasn't, to be fair...), but that doesn't mean I can't just share a 360 and single copy with a few friends. We've done it before and it avoids the need to purchase more online passes.

Indeed. It seems you and I are in the same boat. I agree with you. Video-games should be a form of entertainment that takes us away from the real world and takes us to a better world (or at least more interesring world) for a brief moment.
I always use The Witcher as an example series that BioWare should pay attention to and I will do it again right now.
The Witcher is a dark game with lots of dark moments. All the endings in that game are morally grey and each ending has a negative consequence, but also a POSITIVE consequence.
In The Witcher, you choose to side with The Order of the Flaming Rose, a pro-human knight order that protects the human empire against the invading elves? That's okay, then the empire will flourish, the king will make you his personal guardian, all humans live happy and ever after (relatively speaking). The elves will hate you forever, but that's the small price you pay for creating a succesful human empire.
In The Witcher, you choose to side with the Scoi'aetel, an anti-human terrorist group led by elves? That's fine! The elves will crush the empire, the king will surrender and offer the elves a better position within the empire. The Order of the Flaming Rose will be disbanded, the empire will be rebuild and you will get to be the king's personal guardian. Most humans will learn to fear the elves and some humans will start a rebellion against the king, but that's the small price you pay for creating an empire where humans and elves are equal.

Why can't Mass Effect be more like that (but on a galactic scale)?

And cancelled my pre-order of the collector's edition.
You can flame me if you'd like (just do it within the site rules of conduct so ya don't get banned), but I felt this was really the only way for me to effectively express my displeasure about the endings, such as they are. I'm voting with my wallet, as they say. I felt it would be kind of silly to just hang around this board complaining about narrative decisions with which I don't agree, but then still be willing to shell out $80 to EA/Bioware.
I'm sure some of you will point out that "well the endings are just a small part of the game; the rest is going to be amazing". And yeah, that's probably true. For some people, it doesn't matter what the endings are, they'll have a great time playing, regardless. But for me, the endings have the ability to ruin the entire experience.
If it turns out that the leaked info is false/incomplete, then I'll happily shell out the cash for a standard copy of the game, plus the From Ashes DLC. If it turns out that Bioware is listening to the fan complaints, and they release a DLC that modifies things, then I'll shell out the cash for that too. Right now I'm just taking a wait and see approach.
You have my respect - I'm on the verge of canceling myself. I figured a sleep would change my mind however I'm even more furious that ever at BW promises our decisions matter etc, etc. Then to have this thrown at all of us who merely wanted Sheppard and his crew a chance at life isn't very much to ask for. Not this Greek tadegy I can watch in the news 24/7/365.

You are fighting thousands of reapers, you aren't going to walk this one off. You fought one and almost died.
Shepard fell from space, burnt up in the atmosphere, impacted a planet and was essentially a charred slab of bacon yet was able to be resurrected. If Bioware's already gone that far "out there", it's silly to say that Shepard and crew could not defeat the reapers and walk away mostly unscathed.
