Pathetic. Grow up and walk into the real world.

It's not all sunshine and rainbows. You think that any war we've ever had ended "happily" lots of people died. Granted this is a video game and on the grand scale of things people that die in war deserve a lot more respect, Bioware stated a long time ago the endings won't be happy.

you people would have still moaned and ****ed if the ending was "Oh yeah, we kicked the reapers ass now we live in peace"

I went outside into the real world today. The graphics were nice, but the gameplay and story were boring.

The motto of this comment of mine? This is a video-game, not real-life. If I want to enjoy real-life, I go outside. If I want to enjoy an epic space adventure, I play a video-game.

I don't play video-games to be confronted with negativity, pessimism, issues and bitter moments, I got plenty of that sh*t in real-life already. I play video-games to enjoy, relax and escape real-life for a brief moment.

A Space Epic or Drama is not a game to relax too.  Play Skyrim, Morrowind, or even Viva Pinata if you want to escape.

I like that you are standing for what you believe in OP.
For me, I already paid for the game in full and its too late for me to cancel. I really didn't like how it felt like we were being railroaded into these endings. I don't mind the sad endings if there were at least ONE happy ending.

You are fighting thousands of reapers, you aren't going to walk this one off. You fought one and almost died.

Shepard fell from space, burnt up in the atmosphere, impacted a planet and was essentially a charred slab of bacon yet was able to be resurrected. If  Bioware's already gone that far "out there",  it's silly to say that Shepard and crew could not defeat the reapers and walk away mostly unscathed.

^^ Indeed.

The whole Lazarus Space Jesus thing is believable, but having a happy ending is to much?

Okay then. Image IPB

I respect that you are taking a stand against what you believe is a negative choice by bioware. However, I find the Idea that Mass Effect, and Video Games as a whole "Have" to be an escapist experience that does not present the player with any real negativity or drama to be depressing. To demand that games only insulate the player is to limit the medium as a whole.

Mass Effect, is a sci-fi game. While it is a light form of Sci-Fi, it still embraces many elements of the genre, and that genre has often been pessimistic. I don't necissarily like the descriptions of the endings, but I'm willing to see how they play out in the greater context of the game.

I mean no offense with my posts. However, I am a strong believer that entertainment in all forms should attempt to challenge the consumer in some small manner at least.

ME1 and ME2 prove you wrong.

Those games were perfectly fine to relaxt too. I relaxed when I played ME1. I relaxed when I played ME2. I probably will relaxt when I play ME3, until the finale, when the sh*t hits the fan and I'll realize that everything I started to love and care about in Mass Effect are no longer relevant.

Nothing wrong with Skyrim, Morrowind and Viva Pinata, but I prefer the Mass Effect universe to escape too. To bad ME3 destoys that universe....

I also don't mind sad endings, and in fact I think that they're probably good for the video game medium as a whole (ya know, making it more "legitimate" art and whatnot). I also really don't mind very bitter endings with just a hint of sweet. In fact, I love that kind of ending.

For instance, I wouldn't mind if the relay network is blown up and Shep's dead, as long as there is a tiny upside (e.g. maybe the crew is not left on Gilligan's Planet to either starve or do creepy incestuous things to each other at a later date). Conversely, I wouldn't mind if Shep and crew are all dead, but the relay network survives and life in the galaxy rebuilds and continues on. I also wouldn't mind if everyone turns into horrifying organic-synthetic abominations, as long as we could all "spill some drinks" together later.

However, what it seems like we've been given is heartbreaking depression with a side of...more depression. Which I could probably learn to live with, if there were substantially different flavors of depression to choose from. But the endings seem pretty much the same (relay network's destroyed, crew stranded), so it makes it hard for me to care about playing the game. And it makes it extremely difficult for me to enjoy all the amazing stuff that is bound to precede the endings.

I think that an ending where she sacrifices herself makes sense, its all heroic and crap.a happy ending would be nice but apparently we aren't getting that, however the galax is safe, so nice trade off

Man, now I really want to see a web series called Gilligan's Planet :D.

Seriously though, I understand your point and I don't fully dissagree.  However, I don't think I can tell how negative and depressing the game is just by the ending.  For me the context provided by the whole game, and even the performances will do more to set the tone of the entire game.  That being said, I don't have a problem with people who find the endings dissapointing, only with the idea that games should not be allowed to be depressing.

Me too. Stopping by Gamestop after work today. Getting shafted in every possible ending is something I can definitely postpone until I find ME3 in a cheap used bin.

Good for you man, seriously. I'm actually considering doing the same myself but I just don't know.

I mean on one hand, like others, I'm invested in this series. I have the CE for 2 and its one of my most prized gaming possessions. Hell they day after they announced the CE for 3 me and a friend rushed down to gamestop just to put the minimum on a preorder down just because how fast they went last time.

On the other hand though thats $80, EIGHTY FREAKEN DOLLARS. At this point my interest in the game after everything thats happened is just... meh I guess.

I really don't know what to do right now but I'll decide this weekend, may be joining you in the ranks of the canceled.

Kudos to the OP! Way to stand up for what you believe. I cannot fault you for that in any way. I will wait until I play through it to pass my final judgement but I can't be mad at you at all. All this news about the endings is quite discouraging.

Unfortunately, because of MP, it'll take an extra week or two for the price to drop.
Fortunately, it's not a heavy focus on MP, so it'll only been that long.

Yeah, I was doing complete playthroughs of ME1 and ME2 and that has come to a sudden stop. Why bother? Nothing I do affects anything anyway. I tried to cancel my order but it has gone through my card - however the guy at B&B Games here told me just pick it up and the ask for a refund. I will, plus I will not be buying one for the wife - the plan was for us to team up - not gonna happen. I now my measley few dollars means nothing to BW - but $89 bucks here in Canada times two means a heck of a lot of money to me. BW will NOT be getting that with this crap they pulled. What's even more depressing BW doesn't even bother to address thisn issue! Tahts finally settled it for me!

You think I would have learned not to get my hopes up after sitting through the disappointing endings to Quantum Leap, most of the newer Star Trek series (although DS9's ending rocked it pretty hard), BSG, and Lost .  I thought it'd be different this time, with my best friend Bioware, but no, nothing ever changes....[quiet sobs]

I did the same. Last week I didn't even imagine I'd ever do that, but I don't think I'll be able to stomach the endings, regardless of how great the rest of the game is. Yes, I am weak. But for me it's more of a "wait and see" approach than anything.

I don't mind sad endings. Hell, I wanted them. It makes a lot of sense for me that we would have to work HARD to get a good ending. But to have only bitter endings? Might as well rush through the whole thing. I think my Shep would rather be dead than forever alone.

Sorry if there are mistakes, English is not my first language.

I say the destination counts the most. Great journeys can be nullified by horrible destination.

heh sometimes I wonder if people actually read what the OP posted. OP is passing on ME3 because he doesn't like what he's read. it's even stated he'll get the game if it's proven wrong / a dlc comes out to rectify it.

personally I commend OP for sticking to their belief, it's actually refreshing. different people play games for different reasons.
