Well it happens lots of people lie for one reason or another. I mean it sucks but, whatever I've got much, much bigger things to worry about than this game.Duncaaaaaan wrote...

FYI, I was at the Dublin ME3 launch party last night and had a chance to play the game. There were no more dialogue options for the opening sequence than there had been in the demo. I couldn't play long because... well, this is embarrassing... I'm a PC gamer and, having never used an XBox controller or owned a console, I was, frankly, totally useless at playing it. But after I gave up I watched other, competent people playing and I only ever saw two dialogue options in the various other parts of the game they played, which had not been in the demo.
Well, there you go. You heard it here first.
Bioware lied. "It's rare that conversations only have two dialogue options".
What happened to "it's rare that conversations only have two dialogue options"

Yes. I'm sorry, I should have been more clear! Of course, the investigate (etc) options weren't always there, but they sometimes were. I'm just talking about the options that move you forward in the conversation, on the right side.YankeeBravo wrote...
When you say you only ever saw two dialogue options, you're talking about options on the right side of the wheel for "paragon" and "renegade" responses, right?
Still had the options on the left side of the wheel to branch conversations deeper?

To be fair, I should probably qualify my statement. The party was three hours long, but there were a fair few people there and I don't believe any guest had their hands on the game for more than an hour. ME3 must be huge, and it may be unfair to characterise the whole game on the basis on a short experience of it.Duncaaaaaan wrote...

Don't feel bad, I tried to play KOTOR recently and couldn't last 5 minutes with my keyboard and mouse.
Thanks - that actually does make me feel much better!
It's a shame because I wanted to see what the fuss was all about. I'll get the hang of it eventually.

Also, with regard to the first 30 minutes to an hour of the game, that's not surprising. It's a pretty linear and railroaded story until you get to the Citadel anyway (haven't read script or spoilers, I just know you go from Earth to Mars before Citadel like most of us already know). The point is, a glorified tutorial plus a second mission that's still establishing the opening of the story can't be used as an absolute measuring stick for a 30-40 hour long game.

No worries, that's what I had thought you'd meant.
Just wanted to be very clear on that particular point as what we'd seen to date hadn't exactly been dialogue heavy. And with the trimming/streamlining of responses, I'd been getting a little concerned about conversation depth as a whole.

40,000 lines of dialogue. I think I'll be fine even if some of the romance paths and some of the early game options only have two choices. There are some instances where three or more options just don't even make sense. And maybe they wanted to streamline it from the times when 2 of the 3 options basically just said the same thing anyway.

Well...The first thing that comes to mind is the debacle with the intro that received a late edit/reworking.

What's the point in having 3 options if they all lead to the same line like in ME1.

The script being old, the choices, everything. You remeber all the marketing they did about your choices have a big effect? You remeber the "thousands of variables"? Forget all that.

Yes and no. Beginning of ME2 you wake up on a space station overrun with homicidal mechs and, while you're getting shot at, you still have time to question Jacob as to what the H*** is going on. Point was, if a player wanted to ask questions, they could.Daywalker315 wrote...

That's true, except people said the same thing about the DA2 demo, and look how that turned out.The point is, a glorified tutorial plus a second mission that's still establishing the opening of the story can't be used as an absolute measuring stick for a 30-40 hour long game.
Honestly, I know it doesn't sound like it, but I'm pysched about ME3. I'm also keeping my expectations in check, though. Better to be a pessimist and be surprised than an optimist who is disappointed.

Indeed. Frankly, it's vital to feed this illusion at all opportunities, because a developer can only rarely allow choices to have consequences that diverge strongly from each other if they ever want to actually finish a game with a reasonably long story and deep scope.android654 wrote...

Paraphrasing aside DA2 was not so bad when it came to conversation options. You almost always had at least 3 and they were varied in delivery , if not in outcome. That ME3 could be worse than DA2 it boggles my mind...
(Hope no one died of shock because I said something nice about DA2).

I would be surprised if there are any 'hubs' at all like ME1 and a bit of ME2 to walk around and talk to people. It will be just ACTION, ACTION ACTION to try and get all the call of doody fans to buy ME3. Bioware seem to be forgetting more and more their loyal fans and ditching them for fickle casual's. Bioware in steep decline.
Well, according to the guy who's playing the LA space copy, isn't the Citadel in ME3 almost as big as the Citadel in ME1?
