Hood?
Ahhh! :P

That's the mantle/shoulder piece. It's just flat now to get the texture map right. Then I'll deform it forward and down to fit over the shoulders and around the head. I'm going to make the mantle dangly mesh if I can figure it out. I know TAD said there was a good toot on Harvest Moon, but I haven't actually gone looking yet :P

The winglets will each be boned with 15 bones. I want some fine movement at the tips and coarser movement at the base.

The pear-shaped bit will be boned, too. It will be thicker (hiding the base of the winglets inside) and will form the bulk of the back-piece.

I have thought about a dangly-mesh ruff of feathers, something like Estelindis' Sasvras cloak:

But that'll be an upgrade for later, unless someone wants to help ;)

And I managed to completely ignore this theme and not get distracted by it, so I concentrated on getting the Medieval City tileset a step closer to completion instead of making yet another tileset that has too few tiles to be of much use and won't have everything in it that I planned to put into it.

Still, at some point I'd really like to make those elven buildings ...

Let's see if I can be a necromancer and revive this dead thread.
I have a half finished elven building and would like to get some feedback.

The gables and balconies are still missing, as are the windows and the ornaments at the top of the roof. The ground around the house won't be as flat as it is now either.

There will be variations of the building with balconies at one of the longer sides of the building and/or with windows in the roof. Most of the other buildings won't have a patio.

Looking very very nice. The only thing i would change is the rooftexture. Maybe something leafshaped or an ornamentic pattern of high quality.

I'm liking the architecture :-) But I agree with BY about the roof. Perhaps a beaten gold look, or scales of silver?

Have you though about dropping the alpha to .9 for your stone/marble materials? I think that translucent look would really translate into Elven construction.

Maybe experiment with the ice texture to get some mother-of-pearl features?

In fact, I'm hoping (when we get to it) to really work on a range of translucent jade materials - in all the colors of jade - for my Elven and Twin Empire architecture.

I was thinking the same before reading the latter posts. The roof looks off. The bottom part is very good though.

It looks good! I do agree, perhaps a scalloped or leaf shaped tile instead of a wooden shingle would do the roof more justice.

Also, if I may be so bold: A number of your tileset contributions to these contests use the same base textures (cobble/grass) as terrains in the medieval city tileset. I know you incorporated the thieves' guild into the medieval set, perhaps some more of these orphans and small tilesets could be adopted into other tilesets also, or much later, create an 'override' hak for your own tileset that includes the extras.*
I am reluctant to propose anything that might distract you, but it occurred to me that your work on side projects could be turned into work on the main project, at a later date.

*most of the roman stuff you did would work well in the medieval tileset, and give it a nice second architectural style to depict old town areas (like in much of europe where rome once ruled, there are old roman buildings nestled in amongst more tradiitonal regional architecture.

I already added the halfling buildings from a previous challenge to the rural tileset. The ground textures are the same as in the Medieval tileset, so when finished, builders can add tiles from one tileset to the other if they don't mind the loading time for areas getting rather long for a tileset with 2000 tiles or more.
The roman tileset could easily be made a part of the medieval tileset as well, but I will only do that as an optional expansion for the Medieval tileset when that one is finished. Not all people will need the roman buildings and with them the Medieval tileset will have more than 2000 tiles which makes loading times for areas too long for PWs - though there are PWs which use tilesets with even more than 3000 tiles. I will leave all this up to the builders.

Lime leaves are what I wanted for the roof texture, but I have found no photos yet which can be used to make such a texture because they all have too much light or shadow on them.
I found a few nice leaf skeleton textures which might be used in creating a leaf roof texture.
What I don't like at all is too much gold. The roof will definitely be green. Silver would offer no contrast to the marble.

As for the ice texture to get mother-of.pearl features - I've already done that for the merfolk buildings, so I won't do it again.

Making the marble translucent would also be a bit too much because the windows which aren't finished yet will already be translucent.

I agree about the roof in part. This stone needs a posher looking roof.

Alternatively, you can make two versions - the second being this roof with a cruder-looking stone (wood?), for the non-lords of an elven settlement.

From what I've seen of existing elven tileset interiors - they look quite clean and neat in some ways, but it would be nice to have a more 'natural' look interiors that feel worked around nature - twisty mossy treetrunks, thick foliage, elegant, but 'plant-covered' stone surfaces/walls.

A hidden grotto behind a waterfall (perhaps reminiscent of Treebeards hideout), rooms inside giant tree holes that lead to 'flets' (concealed tree platforms where floors and walls are made to look part of the trees and eventually treetops.

An additional tile - a tall tree with a well-hidden tree platform that can be sticking out of the normally low unwalkabe 'trees' tile in rural, forest and caste rural tilesets.

Sorry to ramble on, just lots of ideas popping into my head on reading this.

I left out the ornaments at the edges of the pillars and the roof because they increased the polycount too much.
So this is what I got now:

The screenshot doesn't show it well, but the windows are transparent. I still haven't decided if I'll use standard doors or make a tileset specific door out of one of the windows by adding a wooden frame.

Edit: The door frames didn't have the right size for standard doors anyway, so I made tileset specific doors.

Oh! I like! Your eye for fitting architecture into a theme remains undimmed :-)

Wonder if I can invite myself over for drinks...

I finished a smaller building that is only 2x2 instead of 2x3.

Lovely as expected from you zwerk;) The roof seems to be much better now and the color is just perfect. Nice work on the glassed doors too. Could you show us a night setting screenshot with a lightsource inside the building?

An elven priest or magician. This time the head is based on my own design; and the face is based on David Bowie...
