a patch to delete the normandy crash that everyone hates?
or to make it so your squadmembers dont get teleported to the Normandy?

I think that last one should definitely be remedied, at least.

This. Please, Bioware!

Few questions:

1) Is 256mb big?
2) The patch is 16mbs for PS3? That's not very big at all, huh?
3) Is it possible that this patch could contain the endings, BUT, instead of the endings being cinematic, they're in-game rendered?
4) PS3/360 owners can't get the patch early?

As a PS3 owner, I too would very much approve of a patch that gives that machine enough RAM to be able to do this without sacrificing other ingame content and functionality. Unfortunately, that's just a dream :(

My best guess at what this might be:
  • A fix for possible memory leaks in single player
  • A fix for multiplayer connection issues
  • A fix for multiplayer map 'hole' glitch exploit
  • Possible weapon/class rebalancing
  • Possible fix the the LI scene
Given this game features multiplayer, that's going to be the primary target for patches since, not only do issues here affect other players' online experience (such as players glitching or overpowered), but the multiplayer is much easier to monitor and bug-hunt since it all occurs online.

For example, a player who finds the 'cunningly hidden' hole in the single player portion of the demo is not doing any harm to other players, they're just messing with their own game deliberately - whereas a player doing it online can cause folks to either become invincible (and that game seeming cheap), or crash at the end meaning wasted time, no credits or XP earned for the last half-hour of effort, reduced GR in the single player mode (if people keep doing it and folks can't level up as effectively) and a potentially damaged console (which is always a possibility when a system hard freezes and has to be manually reset or the cable yanked).

Doubt it's new endings. Could be a fix for the flashbacks, since that's a glaring issue.

In my opinion, it's something to do with modding. Probably an encrypted Coalesced file, along with a multitude of "balance" fixes. Good god, I hate balance fixes. Next thing you know the whole forum will be awash with complaining and insulting, a la the BF3 or MW3 forums.

Firstly, lets not forget that the PC is always going to get more problems than the console version across all it's user base due to things such as graphics/sound driver compatibility, Direct-X issues and other things. These updated files may have updated data to support more hardware or fix support in others.

256mb is indeed big. It's not 'massive' but is large enough for some substantial game-engine upgrades. The equivalent patch for PS3 being only 16mb indicates that there's not much new 'content' in the patch - if any - and all we're getting are updated files designed to work better. It depends on what the patch needs to do really - a PS3 has the exact same system hardware as any other PS3 whereas a PC can be any number of infinite configurations of drivers and hardware.

The console patches will also need to go through certification on console. This can take around 2-4 weeks normally, while the PC version can be put out quite quickly. It's entirely possible the patch not being available right now is down to Sony and Microsoft's certification processes.

Maybe they fixed the LI flashbacks?

It's one of the most likely fixes

I seriously hope this occurs.

Final fight squadmates teleporting to the Normandy also seriously needs to be remedied.

dont, think its a new ending no way they can make that in a couple of days. what i do hope is that it will patch the rumored glitch/bug with the face imports(for xbox) so that you dont need to start from scratch with your shepards face and also the ending flashback from your li. that are my main concerns. i dont mind the endings

Unless the endings where already done and they took the good ones out so people who got the space editions could not leak the good or happy endings.

The most unlikely scenario and conspiracy theory that I want it to be true so much... hope against hope :(

Yeah, the patch has nothing to do with the ending.

Why do I know this? Because there are still a great portion of console gamers out there who don't have their 360s or PS3 hooked up for online.

As much as I would like to believe it, I don't think they're going to have a game out there with two different endings depending on whether or not you can get online, just to "throw people off."

But then why are they keeping slient on the forum and doing interviews saying "don't worry about the endings"? After launch the backlash would be fueled by these misleading interviews and quotes. It would end up doing more harm then good.

What I don't understand is this: Did they not know that the Space Edition would be data mined and the game would be spoiled and some people would cancel their preorders because of that? I mean how is this good business?

To remove the Normandy crashing thing from canon, go into the movies folder and delete the video file where Joker crashes. Once you hit that point, the game will crash and you can consider that the end.

Or, replace those BIK files with one of the practically inevitable slew of custom made endings that folks will be pushing on fan websites that's all rainbows and bunnies.

The game won't crash and you'd get an actually happy ending :P

That is just one of the many things that seem out of place. I maybe looking for something that proves that things aren't what they seem. I don't know what happened with DA2 but I imagine that it wasn't this same situation.

This is basically what I've been arguing. Let's say they knew the game would be data mined or pirated...why would they want to risk damage to their fanbase to teach everyone a little lesson about Internet piracy? The people who found the editions are contest winners, not a band of marauders who broke in and stole physical copies of the game.

If they predicted the endings would leak, why wouldn't they use that as an opportunity to make good ones, or at least a single good one, that would encourage people to pre-order rather than cancel?

In short, this whole deal isn't good business, trolling or not.

I hope it is trolling.  If it is and my CE has the real endings that are good/happy/different depending on my choices, I'll go buy a 2nd version of the game   ;)

This would be counter-productive. The space editions only got found a week before the official launch, and there were sufficiently few copies that the chances of something leaking was tremendously low. It was only through sheer luck that a person who got one had the ability, knowhow and intention to mine those files, meaning a whole lot of time wasted to effectively screw over a couple of fans.

But a fan did leak some stuff - and if, after only a week, we have entirely different endings than the videos, photos and descriptions we're given, it will be obvious to everyone what's happened and that the developers were screwing around. This can't really be a message about piracy, as all it actually says is 'don't bother entering any Bioware/EA competitions as they may screw you over with a broken reward', since it will be the full official game that gets pirated, you can't bank on that happening with the space editions.

Except:
BW-Staff1: "Whatever End we will give them, we can't satisfy the fanbase that played from ME1 until now."
BW-Staff2: "They will be the ones in the spoiler-forums. We give them some stuff barely anyone will like. Maybe we can even put in a running-gag of Joker and EDI hugging on a wild planet. That would be totally Battlestar Galactica and Tricia Helfer is doing EDI anyways."
BW-Staff1:"So you mean, we put in crappy endings and then put in better ones later? So everyone will be happy that they didn't get what was leaked at least."
BW-Staff3: "That'll do it. Also this can be some kind of piracy-protection, if the early versions should leak."

One odd thing is that BioWare has not responded to the leaking of the ending.

As far as I know they have responded in some way to every other leak for ME3. Makes me hope, perhaps self delusionaly (new word!), that the real ones are still hidden in the game or will be added.
