When I try to start DAupdater.exe manually, the window comes up with no text or graphics in it.  There are two blank tabs and when I press one, it shows me the following error message:

11/25/2009 10:04 AM - C:\\Program Files\\Dragon Age\\bin_ship\\daupdater.exe,
11/25/2009 10:04 AM - Found Dragon Age version 1.1
11/25/2009 10:04 AM -
11/25/2009 10:04 AM - Exception while loading localization xml or setting language. Error: System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
   at DAContentInstaller.MainForm..ctor()
11/25/2009 10:04 AM - Received Manifest Ready Message from DAUpdaterSvc

What is going on?

It seems that you do not have the localisation file that shuld be present under .\\data\\DAUpdater.xml. The empty line at 10:04 should be something like : 25-11-2009 19:19 - Localization file ..\\data\\DAUpdater.xml loaded.

Perhaps reinstalling would work? Alternatively you could just add it separately as it is a simple XML file containing translations for each language.

I have the exact same problem as OP. Did re-installing help? I do have that file under the Data folder.

I found the problem. I was using a standard Windows Vista account. When I changed the account type to administrator, the labels showed up. And the same change finally allowed the camp storage chest mod to install properly. Seemed like it was installing it to the wrong user profile before (the main admin one).

I tried reinstalling the game using an administrator account, but same problem. Maybe the uninstall didn't get rid of everything?

I think I found my problem. I finally copied the xml files from Dragon Age/data folder to the Bioware/Dragon Age/Settings folder for my user account and suddenly the tabs appeared. The installation program was not putting the data files in the correct place.

Have you guys run the the systemscan in options from the launcher?

My friend had a problem with this, but running systemscan fixed it.

Gebut is right! Guys, problem SOLVED!

My friends and I encountered this problem on 2 different OS, Vista x86 and Win7 x64, with apparently the same solution :

1) Run DAOriginsLauncher-MCE.exe from your installed directory
2) Choose "Configure"
3) Let it scan your computer system
4) Done! Close the windows and try the DAupdater.exe again! It should work! :)
