 Hey guys!
Patrick Weekes wrote a blog about how reputation (and Paragon/Renegade points) works in Mass Effect 3. Read and discuss here! Enjoy!

I should go. :wizard:

There’s no penalty for mixing Paragon and Renegade: In Mass Effect 2, if you wanted to get the hardest Charm options, you had to play an almost completely Paragon character. We intended many of those Charms to be fun Easter eggs, but many players felt like they had to play pure Paragon to avoid being penalized by the loss of a dialog option. In Mass Effect 3, your Reputation score determines both Charm and Intimidate options, and that score is determined by adding your Paragon and Renegade scores together. You’re still rewarded for being a completionist player and doing as much content as you can, but you can do it as a Paragon or Renegade player without penalty.""

Ok, all trolling aside, that's amazing. Thank you x 1000.

Wait so how does the bar get bigger while still maintaining the same ratio of Paragon/Renegade?  What I mean is that where is the visual indicator for your general Reputation points?

If you look closely you'll see small tick marks near the bar - if you do something with general reputation, the bar will grow up but the ratio of the paragon/renegade points you have won't change. It simply means that you now have more reputation but your "personality flavor" as it were didn't shift.

Edit: Also, I REALLY like the sound of this new system :D Look forward to seeing it in action!

General Reputation Indicator = blue bar (I'm guessing)
Paragon/Renegade score = the symbols for Paragon and Renegade (I'm guessing)

As you increase your general rep the blue bar increases, as you increase your paragon/renegade score the icon moves upwards.

Just finished reading it, and I love the improvements. (Also, that player on the stats screen is really stacked)

The blog also makes me wonder if there will be some "super decision" that requires a completely full reputation bar to get the charm/ intimidate option (aka the top line of progression)

I don't doubt it.

I like it, but at the same time it seems that now the only need for 'Paragon' and 'Renegade' indicators is as a visual reference for what type of behaviour you're about to respond with.

Why have Paragon/Renegade at all if that's the case? Reputation is Reputation - you may as well just choose whichever response you prefer the most and forget colours all together.

Having a general reputation component makes a lot more sense than giving both paragon and renegade points to simulate reputation (ME2) - good addition Jessica. Hopefully we will see some negative outcomes for paragon decisions (i.e. makes things much harder for Shep to be nice to everyone) and beneficial outcomes for making tough decisions (renegade) rather than the good vs bad stereotypes we have had previously.

No, blue is Paragon. The bar itself just grows, but maintains the same ratio of red to blue despite that. So, if your bar was:
|-Red-||--------------Blue--------------| and you then got a nice general decision, it would grow with the same ratio:
|--Red--||---------------Blue---------------| - general derpy representation, but you get the idea xD

This is so awesome! :D Finally, I can play my paragade Sheps without fear of penalty. Best news of the week (well, except for the message saying that my CE will be ready for pick-up on Monday :P)
