Here's the description of my rig :
 Asrock p67 Fatal1ty professional
 i5 2500K @ 4.5ghz
 16GB RAM (Samsung, 9-10-10-24@1866,1T)
MSI GTX 570 SLI (dirver is up to date)

game was installed in SSD (Samsung S470 64gb*2 RAID0)

Win 7 Ultimate K (up to date for everything)
------------------------------------------------------------------------

So, basically the rig is kinda overpowered for the game, but the performance is just terrible. It just stutters so bad. I didn't look the frame rate up but I'm pretty sure it was running under 40 or 45 or something.

So, I checked the application profile on Nvidia control panel and it turns out that the game doesn't support SLI. The basic profile setting was on just running-on-1 GPU, so I changed it into 'force alternative frame rendering 2'.  Then it got much better but still not having constant 60fps.

And since then, the crash begins. It happens when I zone to the other cities or dungeons. It is suppposed to load module files but the screen just goes dark and ctrl+alt+del  doesn't work either.

here is the list of things I tried :

 1. Running the game in compatibility mode for XP SP3 - failed
 2. Running the game on just one core - failed
 3. Re-naming Neverwinte Nights 2 folder in My Documnents and running the game - failed
 4. Erasing everything in override folder - failed
 4. Changing Application profile in various settings (Power management, Tripple buffering, etc)  - failed

I haven't tried uninstall and reinstalling but I think that's the last thing I would do and honestly, I don't think that's relevant.

and I know there's huge possibility that it's because I changed its application profile into non-Nvidia-suggested state but I don't want to sacrifice performance either.

So, here I am, begging for help. Any ideas?

Can you undo this?

You said was not crashing before, but it was crashing after, seems like that is the culprit.  If your goal is max framerate, the engine just won't do it - my guess is your getting it to handle this is part of the issue. To max results, vsync is important, and other wise follow NWN2 tweak guides

I'd try using the NWN2 client extension ( by skywing ) which fixes quite a few issues, well worth using but no idea if it will fix your issue which seems like it's a problem with the graphics card ( it fixes so many i'd use it regardless ). I'd make sure you are on the latest update ( version 1.23 and check with the updater. )

Also it helps if you are using Steam it can re-jigger your install and fix any corruptions that might happen ( or something you installed or changed ). Assuming you have a legit copy you bought, as other versions can have issues, and right now steam is just $10-20.

Every time I update my Nvidia drivers, the performance of the game gets a little bit worse. I'd try reverting back to an older set of drivers, but NWN2 is the only game for which this is the case. All my other (more recent) games perform a little bit better with each driver update. I've had to tone down the graphics settings to keep pace with the gradually downgrading performance.

In short - NWN2 hates Nvidia drivers.

Just got crashed with basic profile setting. I'm gonna use client extension and see what's gonna happen next.
(By the way, my game is steam version)

ok good, have steam do a repair/reinstall of nwn2, not sure how thats done but i hear its simple and only affects files which are messed up. ( that also means you have 1.23 latest update )

I think the issue is related to your video settings and driver though and not sure if there will be a good solution. From what i hear the newest and best from nvidia does not play well with NWN2, I'd try just lowering all the settings and see if that makes a difference.

Got the client extension and hooked it up with the game, 8 hrs straight without crash.
Of course, I've been maintaining the forced-SLI profile that I had to manage.

Turns out, it's not the VGA from the first place. Anyway, big thanks to you bro.

Yeah skywing does good work, actually surprised that it fixed your specific problem, but it does fix countless crashes. ( If you send him a crashlog if you do crash, which shows up in your program files directory as a txt file next to the app, he can often use those to prevent said crash from re-occurring, so it keeps getting better based on community support )

Probably can experiment slowly with your graphics and video card, just remember whatever you change soas to be able to undo it later, and just do one change at a time so you know what things don't work well with NWN2.
