With ME3 unequivocally ending with the destruction of the mass relays and thus the end of galactic civilization as we know it, do you think with the knowledge the surviving races obtained over the years concerning the reaper tech, how long if ever will it be before mass relays are rebuilt?

Personally I think the Asari and possibly the humans could do it in 1000 years or so, but that would depend on what the state of the homeworlds are post reapers.

what about the conduit on illos? they could reverse engineer it faster than that

The only way I see the relays being rebuilt is the Control ending where you could command the Reapers to fix the Relays.

With all those dead reapers around it won't be that hard to make new discoveries about reaper tech. So it's possible the relays could be rebuilt.

I thought that even the control ending resulted in the relays destruction though?

The relays will be rebuilt when ever the next game in the ME universe starts.

It'll take thousands of years, and th eonly ones capable of rebuilding it might be the Geth. We barely understand how the relays work and the reapers were almost done building their own relay (ME1), but then again we didn't knew how Omega 4 relay worked so maybe now that the relays are destroyed they can study the parts and rebuild them? far fetched, but it would have to be in another game taking plac ein the ME universe (not that i would buy it).

Considering, after all this time, galactic civilization had stagnated and no one had even bothered learning about how the relays functioned...

It's going to take a while. They'll have to discover the relay technology on their own and find a way to implement it in two different locations for there to be a functioning relay system. That will take a lot of time considering they're stuck with FTL drives (at best) and must also focus on rebuilding their own civilizations.

That's the big problem, even if we knew perfectly well how to make Mass Relays, we'd still have to build them in usable locations after traveling there using typical FTL drives. It's just a mess.

The relays won't be rebuilt. You would need to actually GET to where the main relays are placed to rebuild the network, and that would take hundreds of years per trip.

More likely would be reverse engineering the reapers themselves. The reapers managed to go from the Terminous systems to Sol system in a matter of months, meaning they have MUCH more powerful FTL travel than we do. If THAT could be harnessed, we would be in business.

They don't blow up in the destroy ending, they merely short out and fall over. So you should be able to get a lot of very advanced tech from them.

One problem people aren't discussing is, the extra-net is gone. Without the relays, data can only be transmitted at the speed of light. Literally 99% of the galaxy is not going to have any idea what the hell has happened with these endings. To them, everything just goes dark outside of their local relay cluster.

They will probably rebuild them but forget a couple screws and gears here and there, which will cause the relay to actually launch a vessel back in time to right before the collectors attack the Normandy, and you'll be able to send Shep a message warning about the impending attack thus avoiding Mass Effect 2's story thus saving all man kind from an apocalyptic facepalm.

Either control or merge endings leave more than enough resources behind to rebuild the relays: aka, the Reapers themselves.
They already *know* how to do it, and can transmit that knowledge, AND are doubtless physically large enough to create "relay chains" of their own, leapfrogging from system to system.
The only excuse for the Normandy crew to be stranded, then, is the simple fact that no one knows where they ended up at.

Indeed. Even if you take Synthesis it will be eons before you can travel to string two relays together unless another method of superluminal travel is foound.

Well, in the meantime; the Reapers themselves may only take a few years to move from one side of the galaxy to another, and I'm assuming by merging organics with synthetic, grants everyone the same advantages that each other have, like how synthetics are immortal. The Synthesis ending may basically make everyone a potentially immortal pseudo-Reaper.

They can afford to wait then; in other news, poor Quarians, if you help them, they get cut off from their homeworld anyway. Hah.

The battlefleet yes, the civilian quarians are left on their homeworld when you get it back.

In the Control ending Shepard is in charge of the Reapers. In the Synthesis ending the Reapers are now friendly. You'd think either ending would have the Reapers rebuild the relays afterwards.
