I suppose to some folks any tension between a man and a woman = sexual tension, though. *shrugs*

That's rather presumptious of you.

Not really.  Definition of sexual tension: "the occurrence between two people (which is often found in works of fiction) in which two or more of the individuals sexually long for one another, but the consummation is postponed or never occurs. This longing is often suggested by incidents of intimacy; for instance, when two people or characters are alone, are physically close, but desire is never explicitly expressed..."

There is ZERO evidence of this between Alistair and Morrigan.  You have to pass a persuade check with Alistair to *make* him sleep with Morrigan (even to save his own or the PC's life), and Morrigan will sleep with any Gray Warden who's untainted enough to suit her needs and willing to knock her up.  Even if one or the other of them allowed that the other character was not physically unattractive, that would not equal a hidden desire to sleep with them.  I think it's just wishful thinking or reading too much into things for those who see sexual tension between them.

He does sleep with her.

Don't get me wrong, they really do genuinely dislike one another a great deal, but this isn't a thread about rather or not they'd like to move in together.  It's a thread about rather or not they'd ****, and the answer is clearly "yes."

This really does nothing to prove your point, though.  They have sex *if* the PC that Alistair loves and/or cares for persuades him to do it (and it takes a lot of persuasion, as he's repulsed by the thought of sleeping with her) and Morrigan is only willing to do it in order to conceive her demon baby she's been plotting for.  Also, as demonstrated by the fact that she'll sleep with a male PC or Loghain to achieve the same ends, it's pretty clear that there's zero emotional component to it for her (excepting a scenario where a male PC has romanced her).  I suppose to some folks any tension between a man and a woman = sexual tension, though. *shrugs*

I agree.  He only sleeps with her because I forced him to do it, not because he wanted to. If this was truly real, and I was told I could make it so I wouldn't die if I slept with someone...hey I'd do it not matter who it was... even Loghan...though the thought of it does make me nauseous.

Please tell me that you aren't arguing from a dictonary during a discussion about human emotions.

I still really like it when he says "aside from the fact she's a complete and utter B*tch? No, no I don't like her at all."

The look on his face was priceless, I laughed so hard I snorted.

I think I've made my argument with several other points by now, but there seemed to be some confusion in regards to what sexual tension actually *is*, so I thought some clarification might be in order.

Just because you find someone attractive does not mean you want to bone her... Well maybe it does on some deep down primal psychological level, but luckily most males can put themselves beyond that... Well some... At least a few can..

Applying that definition literally means that the game is actually incapable of conveying sexual tension between NPCs.  You never see them alone, you rarely see them interact meaningfully with each other, and in the one place in the game where that sort of thing might happen, Morrigan is standing twenty feet away from everyone else.

But if you want to argue semantics, fine.  There is no sexual tension at all.  Morrigan and Allistair just kinda vaguely hint that they wanna bone each other some day and then do so during the ending, but that's not framed as sexual tension.

In my playthrough, they never even remotely *hinted* that they want to sleep with each other and apparently only do so in certain endings because circumstances (i.e. you, the PC) force them to.  In fact, they did not do so at all in my ending, as Morrigan slept with Loghain.  Perhaps it's possible in other branching paths of the game that they show something besides contempt and loathing for one another, but I have yet to see that. *shrugs*

Um, Hasn't anyone heard the party banter where Morrigan catches Allistar staring at her breasts?

I've stared at Morrigan's breasts. They are just sort of... there. You know?

Often people hate each other because they hate each other.

Well, he's a (straight) man.  I don't know if that's enough to constitute "sexual tension" between the two, though.

Anyone else think that the kind of animosity shown by Morrigan and Alistair towards each other could only come from an intense, denied mutual attraction?  Or have I been overexposed to Hollywood-style contrived plot devices?

Don't know if it's mutual but considering Alistair's fascination with dark magic i think she's sort of a "forbidden fruit" to him, and her constantly mocking him only makes it worse.

That's large reason why i didn't really feel bad about the ritual thing, and considering he was still virgin at that point it felt like just making him a "best gift ever" ... and from his reactions he did seem to be of this view, himself :P

Sure sometimes guys can't help but look at a pair of breasts in front of them. However Morrigan seemed to like the attention, and Allistar sounded embarrassed by being caught.

I think they at least have some attraction towards each other. A lot of times opposites attract, it doesn't make for a long lasting relationship but it's good for a fling

I agree with the OP. i felt the same way, they are sexually attracted to each other and this banter is there way of handling it. after the first few hours i thought maybe they were going to end up together.

Never heard that one.  You sure you aren't talking about the part where he made fun of her nose?

Their banter always struck me as more trying to avoid killing each other and (badly) attempting to get along on *some* level for the sake of the PC and the mission, but YMMV :D  There is no sense of intimacy or longing to be together between them whatsoever that I recall seeing.

Who in the party did Morrigan not express interest in? Shale! Yay :)

She was in a way just as sheltered as Alistair was. Would she mind trying him? No, likely not. She does express interest in it. Especially if you romance the man.

On the other hand if you romance him he claims that the PC is his only love. I am not sure that would be a lie on his part. (I particularly found the line 'Would you crawl in a bush and die? That would be great. Thanks. to hint that he isn't considering that bush event to be of joy and passion.)

There are men that catch my eyes, even if I am married. But that's there to it. Take a peek, think he would be an interesting person, then turn away and forget about it. She is a woman flashing quite some charms and he is a man with youthful vigour. I am sure he didn't forget to rest his eyes on Leliana either.

But then I expect my own husband to have eyes and while not insulting me, still taking a peek at women. I would seriously start to worry if he didn't look. Healthy men look.

It's the same one. She catches him staring and he deflects saying it's her nose he was staring at and how it's just like her mother's Image IPB

I did. It continued with him saying he watches her nose as it is like her mothers and she freeked out losing her cool stating how she hates him. One of the few victories he got over her in bantering :D

Bioware are going for the whole 'King Arthur and Morgan Le Fay' angle (notice the similarity in name and purpose of Morgan and Morrigan?).

Actually I don't notice any similarity in name at all - Morgan is of Brythonic origins (specifically Welsh) while Morrigan is from the Goidelic branch (specifically Irish Gaelic). The two names mean completely different things and when pronounced by speakers of either language don't actually sound that much alike either.

Wasn't the Morrigan that harbinger of death in Táin Bó erm... bugger, schoolboy Irish and classics deserting me here... The Táin. Yes. :bandit:

I guess what you took for his ogling her boobs, I took for his staring at her in displeasure for her even being there (due to his distaste for maleficars).
