*sigh* Again guys?

Thread gets a 5/10, simply because people actually took the bait. Personally, I'd give the thread a 3/10. Really unimaginative.

On-topic, the game will probably be deserving of a 6-7 rating (and that's being generous). No game is perfect, thus no game should be given a "10". People are generally too generous with their score.

If you say ME3 deserves a 6 or 7 YOU are trolling. Seriously.

Good reviews often get included in a developers promotional material. This means more exposure for the reviewer (site/company). Everybody loves free publicity, access to Devs and talent, invites to media releases/events, free stuff, early game access.
edit: new guidelines so dropped direct reference to cronyism.

If someone makes a perfect game it won't need any reviews. Reviewers will be busy cleaning their undies anyway.

Having talked with Zeenof a lot on XBL, I can say he isn't trolling. It's safe to say he will enjoy the game. I also think he takes a harsher and more pragmatic view on games and an arbitrary scoring system. I agree to some extent. Too many games get scored and bunched up between 8 and 10 out of 10. When they are so bunched up it's hard to know that the 9.5 game is really leaps and bounds better than the 8.5 game. People are often too diplomatic. Ratings should be more spread out to better show the quality jumps between good games and great games. That said, I personally still think it will qualify for better than 6 or 7 out of 10.

Yeah, that's kinda how language works: meanings change.  *shrug*

Scores are stupid. Plain and simple. Want to know how good a game is? Go and actually read the review, or play it yourself. Basing it on a messed-up numbering system is just mental.

Will you morons stop saying "HURR DURR NO GAME IS PERFECT THEREFORE IT DOESN'T DESERVE PERFECT SCORES".

Perfect score =/= perfection. It means it's considered the best on whatever scale/measurement/grading system they're using.

I feel like I have to explain this once a week here, which is both sad and mind-boggling.

I understand you're hyped for the game but to say it deserves a perfect score without even playing it yet seems ridiculous. I'm not one of those people who go around yelling "Fanboy" but from what I here Greg (I think that's his name) is a huge fan of the PS3 and the person who reviewed Zelda was also a pretty huge fan of the Wii so I'm not surprised they weren't quite as critical with the few shortcomings each game had (especially uncharted 3). I like what I've read of the IGN review in progress so far the guy clearly loves and is familiar with the series but isn't afraid to point out minor things he was disappointed with. I'm guessing he'll probably give it a 9.5 and the metacritic score will probably be between 94-97.

So you think scores should NOT be based on reality?

Huh.

I wonder how many people actually do read reviews nowadays instead of just glancing at a number

I always consider over 9.5 perfect and replace it with 10. So perfection is now achievable.

I hope at least IGN gives a deserving 10/10 in a while.

They made a IGN reporter into a character, the 10/10 is secured.

I find it strange anyone still trusts or even reads online reviews and scores.

they are all driven by advertising revenue and usually written at lunch while delving into a goodie bag of free copies n t-shirts.

but hey, there are people who dont or cant have an opinion of thier own so need these reviews to guide them.

And if they don't give out a 10/10? What will you be saying then?

It's an opinion. We have those too, imagine that. You are compensating for yours by insulting those who do not agree?
If you need to explain it over and over to a multitude of people every week then... maybe... you... are wrong? Just throwing it out there as a possibility. Dwell on it, you may feel less sad and mind-boggled in the end.

8/10 is good enough for me to buy a game.
So anything higher than that is even better. And a 9.5 - 10?.....

As much as I love being replied to, I must admit, I'm not sure if you're talking about me giving it "too high" of a rating, or "too low" of a rating.

If you're talking about too high, then in my defence, I did say I was being generous.
If you're saying the game deserves a lower score, well, then that's you're opinion as is what I stated,  my opinion. You're free to hate a game that you haven't played, as much as you like. (Spoilers, leaks, etc should almost always be taken with a grain of salt because they generally are out of context and thus you're not being shown the full scenario).

Likewise, I am one of the few people who genuingly liked, maybe even loved, Dragon Age 2. I've stated before in various posts across this board that my opinion on things is (seemingly) in the minority.

To randomly call someone who's opinion is not the same as yours, a troll, is further evidence of a childish take on yourself and others. I never attacked you, or anyone else. I merely stated my disaproval of people being naive and actually taking a "troll" topic serious. Even if this wasn't a "troll" topic, it is still a topic that was, quite obviously, made to invoke anger in people. Thus, any serious reply is absurd.

That is all. /relurks

9.5 should be borderline perfect. I swear to god game review scores are almost as screwed up as the people who think an 8.5 is crap.

Ah, you get it my good man. Cookie for you:wizard:

That being said, I'll be happy if it does truly become deserving of a higher rating. I'm not completely sure wich one you are that I've played with (apologies, I've added quite a few from the group), but if you played with me, you probably know that I really, really, really, really, really, really love Mass Effect.

What bothers me about scores is people seem to pay more attention to the raw number than the actual text. I don't know if it's the TL;DR society the internet has made us into, but thanks to that, it feels like game journalists are starting to just slap artificially high numbers as the scores and then make up some BS as the actual text. You know, since nobody reads it.
