Shouldn't she be paying? Or at least splitting the cost with you.

Take Modern Warfare 3 for instance.

For the haters...sadly, they are part of oour geek/gamer culture. One of the things we really should remember is that we as gamers don't ever post enough positive feeds, the negative ones almost always outnumber positive ones. So when we love some mechanic in a game, and don't post about it, Bioware will only see the negative ones, thus more likely to change something we love.
For ME3, It is hard for me to even imagine it won't be epic, sure there will be a bit here or there I might have prefered in ME2, or ME1. And I have no doubt that some of my playthroughs will be sad, more people dying than I want, some allies not comming on board, some enemy throwing a monkey wrench into my plans and thus, loosing a planet, or whatever. But I have at least 8-10 ME1/ME2 playthroughs, all with different choices having been made throughout, just so I can see the effects of every choice. So some might be more satisfying than others. I will enjoy them all.
Remember also that we are gamers, and as such are pretty well conditioned to the second and third installments of games, well, blowing serious chunks most of the time. This is one of the few games ever made starts from scratch as a trilogy, and so far has well and truely broken that pattern, but we are so used to being disappointed, that... well...
I also avoid the spoiler section like the plague, I want that awe when I pla the game for the first time, that sence of wonder.

For the record, I enjoy all four of these games, but I'm not above criticizing them. I would argue that a true fan is capable of seeing the positive in spite of the negative, but of pointing out the negative even in cases where the positive is what they would prefer to focus on.
I think this is the best way to put it. It's unfair to say being a fan of BioWare demands some kind of blind devotion. No matter how you feel about a game, pretty much everything that has come from BW has strengths and weaknesses.
I don't necessarily agree with your assessments of DA, DAII, ME and ME2 - which isn't to say I don't think you have legitimate reason to feel the way you do; I think different aspects will be troubling to different players and I think it's all very valid. I loved Dragon Age: Origins and played through half a dozen times. At the same time, I found DA II to be an utter letdown, primarily because they changed so much of what I loved about the first game, and speaking for myself, I know it can be difficult to differentiate between "disappointment" and "hate." In retrospect, I don't think DAII is a bad game by any means - it's just not the game I was expecting or hoping as a follow-up to one of my all time favorites.
That being said, I'm glad to see a positive thread about ME3. I was hesitant to pre-order at first because I DAII was such a let-down - but ever since the release of the FemShep trailer and the demo, March 6th can't come fast enough, as far as I'm concerned.

But let's face it, everything I have seen the last few weeks, and now this awesome launchtrailer - I know I want this game. It looks like it's bringing the best of ME1 and 2 together in one mindblowing game. In that regard, I now understand statements like 'this is the best entrypoint for newcomers to the series'.
I want this. Now.

The customer isn't always right, and include myself when I say that.
I'm going to buy every DLC they put out after the game and love it, just as I did for ME and ME2.

The Mako wasn't the best. While I didn't mind driving from point A to point B on planets like Noveria and Virmire, on the random planets it was just tedious. After a few times of driving to "Debris" or "Signal" on the map to collect random nonsense, I gave up on all that. That's not exploration. It's a time-sink to drive around to various points on a square map and drive over and around jagged cliffs on every planet.
Also, yes, they stripped out too much of a few things in ME2 like weapon and armor customization. The "RPG elements" so to speak. I'm very happy they've brought weapon customization and far more power customization into ME3. They're both far better than ME1 ever thought about being IMO. Evolving powers 3 times to customize it? Weapon mods and tons more weapons that are unique? Let's be honest, once anyone got Spectre weapons on ME1 that's all anyone used anyway because they were WAY OP.
Also to the OP, online deathmatches? Really? I see no PvP. If you want to call a co-op experience like that a deathmatch, go right ahead I guess. I disagree based on the connotation of deathmatch in today's online PvP-centric shooter game lingo. Also, while some people on BSN might agree with your "I know it will fail" outlook, the gaming public as a whole doesn't share that sentiment. Steady growth on sales from ME1 to ME2 and triple the preorders of ME2 already, ME3 is shaping up to be a juggernaut critically and financially, not a failure. And most people who play it will likely enjoy it. That last part is my own guess but the part about it not being a financial failure is just fact.
i liked the mako. i liked exploring planets in the galaxy. i liked finding random items that tie into the universe. i liked driving around and being surprised at seeing new side missions or encountering new enemies. i dont like going to a mini game screen and scanning a sphere for hours. i dont like driving a some stupid mini normandy around the map. i wont like the mini reaper pacman game.
yes, they stripped out the RPG elements. not only that, they stripped out the story element. what we were left with was a below par TPS, where you couldnt explore, and the whole game shooting enemies in straight lines, all because THE GREATEST TASK FORCE IN THE UNIVERSE had daddy problems or had lost something.
call it what you want. piont stands. we've come from epic single player RPG to mediocre TPS with an online wave shooting gallery mode

Forget the whole prothean thing for a moment. Its mostly trolls and knee-jerk reactions. You knew this was coming.
However, when people get wind of things like the ending which supposedly sucks no matter your choices they get angry. Bioware promised them choice. There should be one where Reapers have total victory and another where Sheppard has total victory. Then they sprinkle the other ending in between. If they did the range between Disney and Aliens people would not be complaining. But that is not the perception right now.
People play these games for escapism. You don't need a depressing ending in the current economic climate.

This isn't the era of ME2 anymore. ME3 is still coming out hot on the anger that DAII recieved. Fans will compare ME3 to the more recent titles from Bioware that simply lack the quality the older titles offered.
Titles, plural? DA2 was one,, I guess. What others?
Edit: TOR? My understanding was that's pretty good, but since I have no interest in MMOs I haven't followed it much.

Well, people have different opinions on this. I thought that planetary exploration like that is not something that Shepard should be doing. They can put that back when they do a game about an explorer.

Are you saying that all RPGs have to have a story structure like KorOR, DA:O, and ME1? Or maybe I should just say KotOR, because they're all the same.

^That. Ultimately, I feel like the ending will be the one that fits "my Shepard". Whether I like it or not. If I don't, it still doesn't negate everything leading up to that ending. I've had fun/will have fun getting there.
Unfortunately, this is after the release of DA II. A different team, to be sure, but from what they have seen so far it feels like all roads lead to hell. People are justifiably concerned that choice has been unfairly coerced for a chosen narritive.

A true fan supports what they love no matter what. Just like Resident Evil, everyone hated the movies but I love it to death. Well, Tekken the movie is my only exception! lol but that's maybe because I'm not really a hardcore fan of Tekken.
We all know why games don't translate well to movies - just as lipsyncing doesn't translate well to a live performance or how books don't translate well to movies! And apparently, we see how media translates to the masses (not just mainstream culture)
"I could just play the game!"
"I could just read the book!"
"I could just listen to the recording!"
Makes me wonder how the ME movies will do!
resident evil 1 and 2 were great.. 3 and 4, not so much.. although seeing milla jovovich in slow mo for an hour and a half isnt ALL bad (RE 4).
