I was thinking of doing the Human Noble origin next and was wondering if it was "better" as a man or a woman?  I plan to play a sword and shield warrior if that helps.

Well, I play the noble with the intention of ruling in the end. The Male gets to rule in a love less for the sake of power marriage with Anora, where as the female has the potential to romance wed and rule ferelden at the side of her love. Meh guess it depends on what you're going for. I prefer the female version myself. Hopeless romantic and all that.

Only the City Elf origin varies much between male and female.

Sword and shield warriors is the best melee spec by far IMO.  Good choice.  Just get Shield Wall ASAP.

I prefer the way the revenge tale plays out with Howe as a male, however.

edit: not that it's different for females, but there's the whole pride/honor/vengeance and all that maleness

The origin has no dramatic difference if you're male or female unlike, say, the city elf origin. I am playing a sword and shield human noble (see portrait at left), and am enjoying it a great deal. My husband played a male dual wielding rogue for his character, and also enjoyed it. The gameplay was obviously different, and there are different options as to...err...bedwarming, I suppose, if you're interested in that. :)

Yeah, the women get the better option unfortunately, though some still whinged that they had to get Alistair to bone Morrigan so that they could both survive, like that was any worse than what we have to deal with.  We don't even get the choice to keep any of the romance options on the side. :(

That is true.  My noble just couldn't leave Leliana for the throne...well actually I had never even considered it a possibility.  All I wanted to have family's titles restored and House Howe destroyed.  I guess my ambition was too limited.

I'm obviously biased, but male heroes and villains and whatnots are every-freaking-where in entertainment, so females in important roles are always more interesting and "fresher" to me. Especially if they're NOT pretty dainty little flowers (usually casters) but proud melee gals. A noble sword & board warrior makes for a perfect leader figure on and off the battlefield.

(As mentioned, there's no real gender difference. Go with one that hasn't unlocked a romance yet.)

Ahem, my mage is no "dainty little flower."  I'm not sure why that would be assumed, either, given how powerful spells are in this game...

I believe that's the same type of logic I used for playing a male character and romancing Zevran. You never see any tough, action hero gay men. And I feel the same about female protagonists. We rarely get to be the strong, savior types, though that's starting to change a bit.

OT: I'm planning on doing this origin next and doing it as female to romance Alistair and have a chance at the throne.  Plus, acting out the whole revenge plot with a female character looks like fun.

Some of the dialogue is more entertaining in the human intro as a female warrior... beyond that, decide if you want Morrigan or Alistair, because that's the only real difference in the long run.
