When I received DA:O I hadn't received my copy of Windows 7 yet. Now I have it. I know that the only way to do an 'upgrade' of Windows from XP to 7 is to actually do a fresh install.

Will I lose anything by this? I have DLC stuff (Warden's Keep, Shale and Blood Dragon Armour) and I'm registered as a game owner here. I've played the game twice through completely and I'd really like not to lose anything.

Has anyone done this? And does anyone have any pointers or suggestions?

Going to to the same myself in a few days, only from Vista to 7. I'm going to wipe and install fresh. I found this post, there are differences to where character and save files are stored in XP and Vista:
