So, I live in Ukraine, close to Russia, and today Origin allowed me to download my pre-ordered copy of Mass Effect 3. However, in the game title it says "RU Only". Does that mean that everything or even part of the game will be in Russian? Will there be a choice to play in original English? I really hope so. Don't get me wrong, if this time you actually did a proper Russian version it must be great for a lot of fans, but personally I, and I'm sure many other people prefer it the way it should be, with original voice actors and everything. So, what does "RU Only" mean, and will there be any way for me to play the game in English? Thank you in advance.

Also I would like to know, in case there will be no way for me to play in English, if there is a way to cancel my pre-order. Nowhere in product description at the time of my order or at any later point was it stated that it would be Russian only. I must say that every single game I played that had Russian translation pretty much sucked in this aspect. I'd rather find a different way to play in English than pay for a Russian version.

I'm also concerned about this issue. I'm from Belarus and I've got same "RU only" thing. Personally, I think that VO would be in English in any case while text will be in Russian. But I hope that we will be able to choose between RU-EN just like in the demo-version. Otherwise, the only possible way is to download US copy of the game and replace necessary folders.

Origin let's you select language when you start downloading the game. It offers ALL available languages. Including English. I'm pre-loading the game now and I'm in Russia.

I'll try un-installing and downloading it again, but I'm sure there was not such an option. The game itself in the list is called not "Mass Effect 3", but "Mass Effect 3 RU Only"

Yep, no good. Here's what I see:

No language choice of any kind whatsoever.

Pretty much the same situation. No language choice neither during ordering nor while installing. The only difference - I've got DDE, so in my case it's "Mass Effect 3 Digital Deluxe Edition - RU" without "only".

You know, I feel cheated. I don't have a choice what language do I play, nor did I have one when I pre-ordered it in January. So apparently, I'm locked to play in Russian just because I live only 200 km away from Russia? I'd like to see you pull that off in Alaska.

At this point it would be nice if someone who predownloaded English version shared GDFBinary_en_US.dll with us.

Same problem. I'm not even close to Russia, I'm from Bulgaria. I have preordered the game when I was in Russia for a vacation, and now I'm forced to play it like this? This is verry disturbing,

AFAIK there will be only russian interface/subtitles. In ME2 i was able to enable english subtitles/innterface tips by editing a file %GameRoot%\\Mass Effect 2\\data\\sku.ini and changing textlanguage=RU to textlanguage=INT. There is no such file in ME3 directory but i believe it is created after you run a game for a first time (like there is only default settings file so far). Affected all DLC's (i.e they had all text in english too). Hope it will be of some use.

Thanks, I hope it'll be something as easy as that. However, seeing how they went all the way to rename the actual game, they could as well have excluded the original files from the download. Anyway, we'll have to just wait and see what we can do. Just another week...

This is really outrageous, when i was preordering it nowhere did it say that the game was going to be ru only, or I wouldn't have bought it. Totally looks like a scam. Is it possible to get a refund now?

Just contacted origin support and they confirmed there's no way to buy or play English version of mass effect if you happen not to have right IP address, great job bioware. Cancelled my preorder.

Bioware has nothing to do with that. It's EA Games fault and their marketing/regional politics.

Bioware is a division of EA
and of course they have everything to do with it

Yes, Bioware now is a division of EA, sadly. But I'm sure that EA is the ones who make most of the decisions (if not all of them) about publishing/selling etc.

There's no point arguing whose fault it is, since we cannot do anything about it anyway; it's not like they care about customers' opinion or anything...

Hmm, I pre-ordered in summer 2011 and I had a choice between Russian and English language, I chose English, and then they allowed me to select language before pre-load, I chose English again. And it is international version (I have like 7 .tlk files for different languages).

If you need the english .DLL here it is
docs.google.com/open

(press CTRL+S, or go File->Download)

You have to download and put files in their respective folders:

\\Mass Effect 3\\ GDFBinary_en_US.dll

and

Mass Effect 3\\BIOGame\\CookedPCConsole\\ BIOGame_INT.tlk

Then you need to open system registry and find this key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\Wow6432Node\\BioWare\\Mass Effect 3

There change lines:

GDFBinary: GDFBinary_ru_RU.dll to GDFBinary: GDFBinary_en_US.dll

and

Locale: ru_RU to Locale: en_US

Then find key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\Wow6432Node\\Origin Games\\71406

and change the line:

Locale: ru_RU to Locale: en_US

This might change subtitles to english when the game is released but might not work for DLC content and audio.

----------------------------------------

I have contacted EA support and according to support representative it should be possible to change language even if you bought the Russian version of Mass Effect 3. He also promised to refund the game within 14 days after release if it's not possible to change the language.

Hard to believe, i know.

Well, that's good news, if it is true. That big and ugly "RU only" sign is making it hard to believe, you are right about that.

This is very strange because support representative I contacted assured me it's imporssible to change the language, which forced me to cancel my preorder. (I actually have the logs of it). Not even sure how to react to this if he was lying.

Sourabh: Thanks for choosing EA Help! My name is Sourabh. How may I help you today ?

you: Greetings. I bought localized (RU) version of Mass Effect 3 and would like to know whether i will be able to select English language for in-game audio and text? And if it's not possible - i would like to know how can i cancel my pre-order on Origin?
.
.
.
Sourabh: Generally, when you purchase the game in any regional language such as- Russia, you do have all the contents in Russian language

you: I had the option to change language in mass effect 1 and 2. Perhaps you can check this information more thoroughly?
.
.
.
Sourabh: Thank you for waiting. I really appreciate your patience.

Sourabh: I believe you should have the option of language in this game, but in case if you don t have please feel free to contact us, and we'll go ahead and refund the order

you: Right now it hasn't been released yet so its just a pre-order and i can't run the game and check languages inside. Are you sure that it will be possible to refund the game after it has been released?

Sourabh: Yes, we can go ahead and refund the order once the game would be released, but within 14 days

you: Very well. Thx for the info. This is all i wanted to know.

This is what i was told.
