So I've been playing for like 8 hours. I got to Level 7 Warrior, and I still have the same Family Sword I got in the begining of the game. I dont even think I have picked up another longsword since. I have picked up plenty of Great Swords and Daggers and Mage Staffs, but no new longswords. Anyone have a clue why, or do I just need to play more? I havent even seen a good longsword at the merchants I visit.

Also, all of the Mage staffs I pickup are less powerful than the ones my mage already has. Not a single one has been better. What am I missing?

I've noticed armor and weapon choices aren't the greatest in this game but it's not hard to make due with whats there. There are a high pieces from vendors further down the line but good luck getting enough gold to purchase them.

You should be finding some tier 3-4 longswords by level 7/8, check vendors in Lothering and if that doesn't work you can get to your camp or the market in Denerim where a number of merchants should have long swords or axes or other one handed goodies to purchase.

As for mage staffs, it is pretty random trying to find ones that are better tier than the starting ones. I think I used one I found rather early on from a darkspawn until nearly level 10 or 11 because I just never found better.

Itemization isn't the best quality of this game (mage robes being my biggest peeve) but it gets better on 2nd play through when you know a bit more where to go to find stuff.

You should have gotten Oathkeeper the moment you left Lothering.

I'm not sure where to go with this Armor and Weapon dilemma. On one hand, I like loot and cool items just as much as the next guy... err... girl? Elf? Krogan? And this is an RPG which one may say is a staple of the genre, but on the other hand: is it the sword or the one wielding it that is more dangerous?

One day, whether I like it in practice or not, I will tip my hat to the RPG Developer who decides that no, it is not very realistic that an 8 foot tall Ogre's armor that I loot also just happens to fit my little Dwarf the moment I pick it up. And why was that cave spider carrying around a pair of boots and a two-handed axe?

Whoah, I thought Oathkeepr was automatic so you could do enchantment.  Guess I was wrong.
