From what I've seen of the auto dialogue, it's mostly Shepard responding to someone. Apparently, some of it changes based on your Paragon/Renegade meters, so Shepard probably won't act out of character. I'd rather have the old system, but unless Shepard makes major choices or says personality defining lines, then it's not as abominable as some are making it out to be.

Which he will, there are some MAJOR choices in the game, and charm/itimidate is still there, governed by reputation, whic puts neutrals back in the game, a huge weakness for ME1 and ME2.

There may just be far more NPC dialogue than the first two games, it may be too much for Shep to respond 3 ways for everything. The game does have almost as much dialogue as the first two combined.

The increase in dialogue was because of the banter according to Bioware. Just sayin'.

Hmmm, I promised myself not to watch videos like this. Don't want to see any spoilers. But I had to watch it thanks to this thread. And oh man. Did he actually have to choose any dialouge? It just seemed to be one long cutscene :/

I saw one dialogue option in about 10-20 minutes of talking.

Agh... I don't understand this design decision at all. Why change something that worked and was fun. If it is as bad as it looks, Mass Effect 3 will be nothing more than the random sci-fi shooter that comes out 5 times per year :(

I can understand them going for a wider audience and looking for bigger profits I just wish they hadn't done it on the third installment of a great series where people have already invested time into the story. Save it for the next series of games.

It does change based on par/ren though. That's something. But it's still a majority of the dialogue shepard says is automatic. He does say personality defining comments, and small choices on his own though. Still waiting for after palaven, hoping it gets better.

What do you mean? If you are paragorn mostly, will he will always take the paragon route in auto-dialogue?

Yes, same for renegade.

That's the suggestion, but I've seen two playthroughs with no variation of dialogue, so take that for what you will.

Renegade Shepard is a bit more of a jerk in autodialog. It's simliar to how Dragon Age II's autodialog worked.

OOOKK, where exactly in the earth demo, did you feel, you were robbed of your charakterisation. Mind you havent seen much footage, after Earth part ends.

1.  Shepard's forced to be pally with Vega
2.  Shepard's forced to be pally with Anderson
3.  Shepard's forced to resent the Alliance's treatment of her
4.  Shepard can't react much to Ash/Kaidan (Might be addressed later, if so OK)
5.  Shepard has to act like a dick to the committee
6.  Shepard has to deliver that horrible "not about strategy or tactics line"
7.  When Anderson finally suggests a sensible course of action, to try to get support from the rest of the galaxy, Shepard has to resist the idea.

So true. Not to mention it's impossible to effectively role-play a character unless the vital information is shared from the start.

i.e. it shouldn't run in the manner of; who's this bloke?, why are they friends?, what am I doing here?, where is here anyway?, how much time has passed?, why...REAPER INVASION!!!!!

No it does change, I've seen it when talking to the illusive man. Ren is "go to hell" paragon is "duly noted". It does change.

I know that even if there is extreme amounts of auto-dialogue (which a lot of you seem to think based on one 25 minute video) - it's the story and the gameplay that got me hooked on the series in the first place. Posted Image
Why not wait until we've played the game and judge how it is handled comparitive to ME1/ME2.Posted Image
The video showed one mission where there were dialogue choices - probably appropriate for the setting and urgency of the mission. Discussing and choosing the appropriate course of action while sipping cups of tea and munching on cookies doesn't quite cut it in a war zone. Posted Image

I refuse to jump on the bandwagon in to dismissing the game based on a few gameplay videos etc.
And for those who have played the game in full - perhaps your expectations were set too high or are just being picky?Posted Image
Hell I even saw someone post that they cancelled their preorder because of the ending. Posted ImagePosted Image

The auto dialogue so far includes questions, persuasions, and choices. Not big choices, but choices nonetheless.

Auto-dialogue includes some kind of big choices as well. In the gamespot stream, you don't even choose which squad member stay with you. It's all automatic :'(

do they even have it on RPG mode?

Yes.

This is a known fact? They stated they are playing on RPG mode? Trying not to lose hope here////

They have weapon modding, dialogue selection, experience, renegade and paragon meter as well as the feature "full discussions" selected in the gamespot playthrough. It's the "purist" mode alright.

Story quality and writing always trumps dialogue choices for the sake of them...and really the more dialogue choices you have the more inconsistant the script becomes. One major fault with say DA2 is that a lot of people didn't react to sarcasm, and it fell flat.

Deus Ex HR (excluding the seven debate moments) and The Witcher games did well with autodialogue and limited dialogue options.

You're forgetting two important things Jensen and Geralt are predefined with a history and future planned for them. Shepard and Hawke are characters who are given to you to define as you see fit. This is why auto dialogue doesn't work in this setting. Also the auto dialogue in DA2 were one liners in the middle of a party member's dialogue, it wasn;t used to replace dialogue that was a serious response, a statement or decision.

I'm not saying Shepard should sit down and discuss strategy on Palaven. I'm just saying that it would be nice to have control over some of his responses during dialogue exchange with other chracters. I'm also not dismissing the game I'm just concerned  and those concerns are based on gameplay footage I have watched of the full game.

How strange....

that people would rather ruin their experience and watch a playthrough......than play it for themselves...
