Too bad Microsoft didn't become a serious game developer. I like the xbox and if it weren't for the exclusives I wouldn't own a PS3.

I really need to get my hands on Uncharted. That, and the Last Guardian (when it releases).

How can you go from choosing what Shepard says 95% of the time to auto dialogue most of the time?

Action mode

The last question and answer in this interview explains why they went this route for the auto dialogue. Or at least it's all we have so far. Interesting read.

RPG mode as well. That's what the streams were playing on, and it was 90% + automatic dialogue.

I'm very sick I feel like vomiting. When I Played ME Shepard was an ME version of me and I chose what he said, most the time

This is not looking good.

I think the game was made around action mode and the RPG mode was added after it all.

I think we're gonna be screwed royally, and this is going to be an unparalleled failure and let down, History will now refer to things Pulling an ME3 rather than Jumping the Shark, it will be the worst or the worst, "Oh now look they're pulling a ME3' or worse "This is going be another Mass Effect"
And the whole series will be meaningless.

I may just write a fan fic ending to my ME1 and 2 Shepard and that will be it.

Uncharted is a visual delight, and the characters are truly loveable its something that will stick with you for a while

Going through the chat and the ones not talking politics are curious as to how he got it and asking him what his impressions. He was playing RPG in  "Vengeance" difficulty. and the other questions are on gameplay and how it handles.

Just to highlight:

I’ll be honest, right now I have a stack of games that’s up to my knee that I haven’t played because I’ve been so busy with Mass Effect 3. So I’m excited to see what other people have been doing while I’ve been making a game. But I do know that between Mass Effect 2 and Mass Effect 3, one of the things I looked at was—I don’t know if I’d call it the writing, but the cinematic style and delivery of Uncharted 2 really drew my eye. I look at that and say, “Wow, those are some very compelling people.” I’m happy to sit there and watch what’s going on in that scene—I don’t even need interactivity in that scene because it’s so well done. And that was part of the game that I really wanted to strive for in Mass Effect 3 as well. And so I’m looking forward to playing a lot of other games as well. I’ve seen a bit of other ones out there—things like L.A. Noire, they had some interesting ideas of what they were doing for things like facial capture. Who knows where that could go.

Two different story types though. I can love Kara Thrace and her self destructive nature over years of development and enjoy Jason statham blowing crap up for 8 movies in a row. You can like both and have them be very different, just don't try to force one into being the other.

Agreed. I'll admit my biggest motivation for wanting to pick this up is just knowing that Amy Hennig, the mind behind Legacy of Kain, was the lead writer/creative director behind this. Not that I expect the two series to have anything resembling similar tones, but she's a master writer in my mind.

They're asking if anyone of the devs have commented on ME3.

They're also asking about the primarily 2 dialogue options.

And by game terms you are a nuetral or a slight paragon...you can't charm and intimidate, etc. It doesn't reflect your beliefs. DA2 does this better (not completely well, just much better) because its system isn't tied to a morality system, I successfully made a aggressive but good aligned Hawke for instance.

In game terms, I still managed to almost completely max out my renegade bar, including my ME1 import and by choosing certain ME2 abilities (level 4 character class). My paragon actions/responses were mostly related to how I interacted with my crew (Ex: Being nice to Miranda following her LM).

The autodialogue may be inconsistant from the last two games because the last two games were so inconsistant. The problem simply was you got more paragon points for being nice to people than by making key galaxy affecting paragon decisions....sure the decisions themselves are worth more points than a single conversation, however, the sum of the convos trumps that big decision.

But the auto dialogue doesn't even solve the problem- it just adds a whole separate layer to it. Morality has always been a problem for Bioware games, but the better solution is to fix (or if necessary, remove) the morality system. I'd rather accept the flaws of role-playing inconsistency, which has always plagued the genre, than take on a protagonist who reacts in conversation almost completely without impart from the player. Playing a character vs. watching a character.

No, the plot and story are always first, the dialogue options comes second.

For example, Ultima games have a very low impact dialogue system, its questions and answers only, no choices of any kind. But still the storytelling is excellent and genre defining. In fact early WRPGs were more linear.

Games like Fallout 3 and Skyrim have dialogue options, but their stories are awful. Choices were poorly done, the writing was terrible, etc.

And many of the best RPGs have autodialogue, like Tactics Ogre where while Denim mostly has his own dialogue, you make the major choices.
