That was a long time ago. I'm not even going to argue the point. You'll see on March 6th (or 9th).

Proving I'm wrong by not proving me wrong, genius.

Have fun. It's not even worth it, buddy. Think what you will. Come next week, you'll know what most of us already know.

The gameplay sucked in ME1 big time, and yet I played the heck out of the game when it was released, my senior year in high school.
The reason I got sucked into it was I fell in love with the universe and characters so much due to the fact that I felt I was right there.

It's like this is just John Shepard, Master Commander Chief of ME3.

That's the thing though. If I feel like playing a random grunt, I've got games to fill that niche. ME's niche was interactive narrative. With that gone, there's nothing to make it stand out. Without a factor to make it stand out, why would I want to buy it?

I wish I could bring myself to cancel my preorder as I don't want to support them doing this. But I want the end of shep's story that I've been waiting for, though it won't really be my shep's story anymore...this will ruin ME for me. Guess it will just make it easy to avoid their future games.

And they probably rationalize lack of replay value by having the multiplayer.

As it will for most ME fans.

Horde Mode Multiplayer IS the only replay value this game will have. That's all they invested the "replayability" in.

The thing is it's only true for games that are designed around MP. The MP for this will be like the MP for Uncharted, empty about a month after.

Exactly. This was just yet another thing that Bioware overlooked in their campaign to bring in the mass-market-appeal (shooters). No amount of paid-dlc-map-packs will change this.

Back on topic to less dialogue choices...So...how about that "Investigate" tab?

I think they should have announce it. It is a big gameplay change after all.
Learning about the full auto-dialogue only 2 days before the release and only because some people got the game earlier and are kind enough to stream it, is very annoying.

It's called keeping the thread spoiler-free, BlahDog. If you're going to keep this up, PM me. You're not going to derail a very legitimate thread because of interweb pride. PM me if you want to argue, I will more than likely delete your message upon appearance in my inbox, but whatever helps you.

Bioware's silence on this is telling. Just as it was with multiplayer.

Alright guys I'm gonna get some sleep. Keep it up though. We're probably not going to get an answer but lets let them know how we feel anyway. Let them know everywhere you can. We as consumers have the right to criticize our suppliers. If any of you have blogs or net journals, write about it. If you have youtube accounts make videos about it. If you have twitter let the devs know I posted a link to the twitter thread a few pages back.

How is your argument that Action mode is the the reason there is so much auto-dialogue a spoiler? It only pertains to the development process, nothing more.

And I don't think this thread is illigitamste, I just think your argument is.

Gladly. Goodnight.

I feel like Bioware knows they screwed up on this, I really do, and I don't mean that in any malicious way. I just don't they they care. Which is why we have such a screwed up final chapter to the ME trilogy.

This is why it's best to wait for reviews. I pre-ordered DA2 and did all of the little newsletter things to get all of the trinkets. I had fun with the first playthrough, but at then end, it sincerely felt like a game that wasn't worth the pre-order. ME3 seems like it will suffer the same fate. A good game, but not by the standards set by it's earlier iterations.

I just watched a stream. The cut scene was about 2-3 minutes, with only ONE time you can choose what Shepard can say. The rest is auto. Succkyy

And that ONE dialogue-option moment was incredibly shallow.

I agree.

This is a drastic change to the whole feel of the game. This is part 3 of a series, I feel a little like I didn't buy the game I thought I was buying now.

I don't think there was a malicious intent. I think they set out to make a hybrid of ME1 and ME2, but got an order from someone above them to make it more inviting to a wider crowd in order to justify it's budget. The problem is they seeemed to compromise too much on one side and compromised it's base.

I've just pre-ordered TW2, and while it's my first CDPR game, from their interviews this is really a developer that cares about it's fans and would never dream of betraying them. Yes they've only produced niche games, and they are a small developer, but their ethical behavior goes a long way with me.

This seems to me like a 90 degree turn from the promises of player choice.

I'm considering writing on the box "Mass Effect 3 The Mac Walters's Cut" in honour of our illustrious lead.

Funny you should say that. That's how I felt about Bioware when the first Mass Effect came out...

I will never be so trusting again.

You know, when I first saw the rumors/evidence that ME3 had less dialog decisions to make, I was pretty mad. I thought it was more "dumbing down" of video games to appeal to the masses. And while this may be true to some extent, I thought about it a little bit, and the only time I REALLY cared about ME1 and ME2's dialog choices was in crucial scenes at key points in the story. Deciding if the Rachni race lives or dies... that's what I remember. Deciding if I'm gonna be an **** or just stern when responding to some trivial situation? Usually I found it annoying and just wanted to get to the next decision that actually matered. The game didn't change depending on my choices in the majority of the dialog. It FELT like I was making choices in the dialog, but in reality it was just window dressing. NPC's would often just say the same thing no matter which choice you picked, anyway.

ME3, I'm assuming, retains the same "big choices" from the other 2 games. THAT'S what matters in this series, and if I were the designers, I'd probably have realized that and made the same design choices they did. Less is more, sometimes. If a dialog tree doesn't change the story or offer some novel response from an NPC, do we really need it? In the Mass Effect games, I'd say no. Some of you might cry "death of roleplaying," but I think Bioware already took out a large chunk of "roleplaying" when they made the player character a speaking part and decided from the get-go that you are never "evil." They've already made a lot of choices for you, yet nobody seems to care about that because it *works* in the series.

edit:

Also, I think a lot of you are being extremely over dramatic. Especially considering the game isn't even out yet, rofl.

ding ding ding....we have a winner!!!!! Although making the character never evil is a good thing. I was tired of that halo/horns type gameplay.

And really all Bioware games are pretty much railroaded.
