Being realistic, isn't it more likely that the autio-dialogue from Shepard is a compromise to allow more inter-squad banter, rather than a compromise to allow Kinect functionality or to allow bigger guns and tighter uniforms?

Me thinks people conflate all their aggrevations into an overly-simplistic account

I don't think it's about inter-squad banter.  Not most of it, a lot of it's for full featured cinematic dialogue.  And if the auto-dialogue is different for Paragons and Renegades, as has been suggested, it wouldn't have required all that many more resources to allow the player to choose, surely

It's about cinematic flow.

So the game autoselects just depending on what's your strongest allignment? What the hell mang? What about those of us who play renegon or paragade? I don't get why I can't scold someone and then be conciliatory after what s/he's just said.

Go to about 12:45 in this video: http://uk.gamespot.c...3842&pid=662022

Hudson says they didn't have to change anything to make the new modes works and the game is the same and what you would expect from the previous games.

Lies.

Secrets and lies!

That just sounds like some PR crap Bioware has said to shut us up.

OK, you catched me. Bioware pays me to spread PR crap. The game is ****.  Pre-order cancelled.

I'm not going to call the guy a liar. I honestly think the team thought they were going to be able to make something that would be appealing to their old base and a new demographic. Problem is those two want two very different things.

They said the same thing about DA2.

If I wanted an action game the last thing I would want is long cutscenes. It takes more patience to play action than any other mode.

Quite frankly, it still seems Bioware has stuck to their guns, regarding the ME franchize.

"Mass Effect is not a space opera, or a space westen. Its a serioes and artful cinematic expierience, rendered with a unique combination of starkly realistic visuals and hauntingly powerful musical scores"

                                                                                                                 - Casey Hudson/ ME1 CE Art Book.
Its still fits the description.

Edit: Why the hell does quoting not work right.....

OK, let me try to explain. Suppose you see a 5 minute conversation with 2-4 times wheel choices on ME2. As ME3 has doubled the dialogues time that same conversation will last 10 minutes, but you will have more or less the same amount of choices per conversation (2-4).

Or let me explin this way:

ME2 lines of dialogue: 25.000
ME3 lines of dialogue: 40.000
Number of decissions: more or less the same on each game.

So for each decission you obtain more amount of dialogue than before.

It doesn't seem like that in what I've seen. (Which isn't very extensive.  Just Demo + bit of Turian moon)

And this would be bad anyway.  Shepard shouldn't be running his mouth of without player info.

OK, you have a point. But I suppose is much more difficult to branch options for 40.000 lines than for 25.000 lines (as the options grow exponentially, implying to record more and more lines), so the 'solution' is keep the same amount of branching paths even if the information is longer.

I will be happier if ME3 not only had doubled dialogues, but also had doubled the input choices. But I'm hoping that at least the choices will be the same only that they are 'diluted' in longer conversations.

That is one of the major flaws of DA2, and seems to be what happened here. While they thought Uncharted was what they wanted, they forgot that that game has most of it's story woven into the gameplay and the transition between cutscenes, gameplay and qte are blended perfectly so you can't tell where one ends and the other begins. I've seen hours of ME3, If Uncharted in Space with a few dialogue options was what they wanted, I can tell you they failed at this in a very big way.

I watched a scene with the citadel council that just killed me. Again, having just watched me1 be played last night, the contrast was stark. In me1, I could choose the measure of my response based on how I felt. Aggressive where I needed to be, deferential where I chose to be...all in the same conversation. From everything I have seen in ME3, the game just railroads you through conversations. Instead of offering a grateful thanks in a given moment, the game just has you offer up a point of snark...so on and so forth in many ways and forms. Also, I have yet to see any dialigues that offer meaningful interaction or knowledge via Investigate.

It is the interactivity and diversity of choices...big ones and cosmetic ones...that made Mass Effect special. It made the story your story. If you get rid of that, Bioware, you've just thrown out the baby with the bathwater trying to woo a crowd that never cared an ounce about any of the gameplay traditions that made your games special to begin with.

What gets me is how quiet they've been about this. I mean, this is a huge change from the previous games, which they must have decided on pretty early really, yet we only hear about it through a couple of unofficial livestreams?

The only explanation I can come up with is that they knew a lot of people would hate it and decided to keep it quiet.

I didn't actully mean that to sound like I was attacking or acusing you. My apologies.

I meant it to sound like something I'd imagine Bioware saying in an interview.

Okay, now I see what you mean but still I dare to disagree

For the start you seem to assume that both of these 2-4 appereances have the same amount of choices on the wheel - and that is wrong. ME3 features only 2 opptions plus possible 1 investigation question. I think I saw wheel having 4 options (with charm and intimidate) only one or twice. So your claim with comparing 2-4 convos per 5 minutes and 10 minutes is invalid in this cases.

Moreover I did not notice much longer lines after choosing the dialogue, convos also didn't seem to be longer. Additionaly autodialogue seemed to often kick in between decisions.

... Plus with that much more dialogue I think most of us would care to preserve amount of control we had over characters and not just 'the same amount of choices'

I don't really see an issue with it, I am sure we will get a lot of dialogue anyway, with our imput on where it goes.
Minor conversations where Shepard talks to crew as they pass by I don't see that much of a problem with.

Though it's a set story for the most part (no dialogue choices, though your actions change outcomes) I'd wait for Bioshock Infinite.. Irrational still seems to try and appease their core audience rather than chasing the COD dragon, a dragon that they'll never catch, like Bioware does now..

The Witcher 2. It's being released for the 360 next month. Other than that, I'm sticking to Bethesda for the time being. New Veags, D.C. and Skyrim are big enough to satisfy the exploration niche. As for narrative games, The Witcher 2 is the only one I'm considering at the moment.

I'll second the Bioshock Infinite nomination. The original had one of my favorite stories in gaming. Dark Souls is also pretty incredible if you're looking for a mix of Legend of Zelda, Shadows of the Colossus, Diablo, and God of War. In depth gameplay combined with an intricate narrative. It's tied for my favorite game , along with Portal 2.
