I love how people think PoliteAssassin, myself and others are trolling. We all saw hours last night and dialogue shoehorns you into being a tailored character and less of your character you spent two games building.

Gazing into the abyss and all that, mate. Look at it like this: which thought is more comforting?

No, but i think you combined opinions is a bit  polarized. That and the others, just dont wanna spoil the story, by watching the stream, since RP isnt everything.

So we kinda have to trust your opinion, whether or not its to much.

Ps. I think most of us are just hoping, you're trollin/.

BIG NASTY TRORRS! END OF THE LINE. GET BACK IN CAVE!  <_<

I wish I were trolling too but I'm not and neither are Polite or the others. Yes, you make certain command choices and some conversations are better than others, but from everything that I have seen, you are now carried along to those points instead of getting yourself there, all of it at the cost of letting you define how your Shepard interacts with the world. The conversation with the illusive man, that first council talk...so very disappointing.

Isn't that why it is auto dialogued? You have spent 2 games building this individual so now it is time to see the fruits of your decisions.

Horrible justification in my opinion.

It is.

I have yet to see a good justification apart from....well, none :s

Yeah I wish I was wrong. For over a year I've been warning about this auto dialogue, hoping that at the very least it would be like ME2's auto dialogue, but it seems to be far worse now. Make no mistake gentlemen, you really don't get to roleplay your Commander Shepard in ME3 any more. You make big plot choices, that's it.

I have a Shepard that's Paragrade. She's lovey dovey with her crew and Anderson, even Udina and TIM. But she pisses of Wreav, killed Maelon, Nyket, Jacob's father, Sidonis and anyone else who got in her way. This system would shoehorn her into being a paragon, which she isn't. That proves that it's not the right system for this game.

That's an easy one.  The answers to that question are right here...

http://arstechnica.c...-self-image.ars

It's the same thing that causes "Hate out of 10",  which we've already had an example of this week with someone complaining ME3 got a 9/10.  It's the same thing that gets you people who read a press release and use words out of it as if they had meaning:  "Immersive",  "Revolutionary",  etc.  Same thing that gets you "The demo is nothing like the full game,  the full game won't have any of the demo's problems".

It's a symptom of the stagnation and slow collapse of the market,  as games become more derivative,  as diversity and quality decreases,  people become increasingly defensive to the point of being unable to make an objective assessment.

There's only a tiny handful of games to play each year,  compared to previous years where there would be a new release nearly every week or two.  This is people's hobby,  which is a prime component of self-identification,  as the hobby has fewer and fewer companies supporting it,  people defend it visciously.

I mean honestly,  if I take anyone on this thread and put them in front of a movie trailer that starts out with "Travel to a magical world where you'll find yourself...",  after it's over they won't claim the movie is going to make them go to this world.

But one press release with the words "Immersive" and "Revolutionary" pops up,  and these same people will swear that they'll be immersed in the game and that it's nothing like the 20 other games it copied.

I'm actually inclined to agree with the second example. The problem is that in the former case, I'm not actually "traveling to a magical world". The movie keeps that solid barrier fixed between viewer and setting. However, the game attempts to blend the distinction which separates player from world. That's a huge reason why games like Bioshock and Half-Life 2 have so much story-telling potential. It's not a perfect immersion, but it can take us farther as a medium than film can.

You're lucky then.
My Shepard was constantly saying phrases that would be OOC for him.

Bioshock's story was predictable and Half Life's characters are shallow and boring.

But I get what you're saying:happy:

I could use other examples too, but we'd probably be getting a tad more off-topic.

Yeaps. I don't think RPG is about RTS (realtime strategy) elements or some levels. But imo, that does reduce this games value as RPG. Too bad they went for this direction. But then again, Deus Ex 3 did same too, sure it had investigate options in the dialogue, but it had a lot of automated dialogue. And I didn't like it that much.

Shame, because I like taking my time and picking up what I wanted to ask about.

It seems when they said "This game is more about shepard," they meant "We are not letting you RP as shepard"

You see? I had warned everybody about this two years back. But no, ignore me and call me a drunkard who posts whilst intoxicated.

I can understand that some people aren't bothered by this.

But for me, the sort of dialogue choices that seem to have been taken away are what defined my Shepard's for me. It's not the big decisions that defined them, because to be honest there's only a limited number of the big decisions where I'm prepared to vary and thus a lot of them tended to end up pretty similar. It's not LI, because that's usually Liara. It's how they talk to people. One might generally be friendly and paragonish but have a temper. Another might be permanently grumpy but have a heart of gold for people in trouble. Another is scrupulously professional and always strives to be the perfect soldier.

Ha, nice you beat me to it. I started my Auto Dialogue warnings when LoTSB came out. Good to know I wasn't the only one.

Sounds like your mostly renegade. And i doubt me3 is going to force you into beeing a dick to your Squad and Andeson, even if your a Renegade.

You should be good to go. I admit, not getting the physical participation in a lot of conversations, is gulp *less than ideal* But im not sure your Shep would actaully act out of charakter.

Still, i can understand, how something like this can be a deal-breakers. Personally, iv'e always liked ME primerally for world-design, story, art-style, choice transition and hybrid gamplay and exploration. (witch is now severy diminished and i'd trade for auto-dialog in a second)

ME role-playing isnt exactly the best gaming has to offer.

Good catch there. You're a videogame Prophet! So now that this is the norm, DA3 has to dwarf TW2 and Skyrim together in order for me to pay attention to BW after this.

Lucky you because I didn't. I don't want to get to know the Krogan female better. I don't want Vega to not call me Commander. I don't question Anderson and the Alliances treatment of Shepard after what happened on Arrival. I don't think that "we fight or we die" is our only option. I could go on and on using examples form the streams, but that'd be going into spoiler territory.

That's only one Shepard and not even my cannon femshep. My cannon Femshep is only kind to three squaddies, she hates everyone else. Chiefly Garrus, Ashley, Miranda and Tali. From what I've seen so far, she'll be forced to be kind to them which breaks immersion since I spent two games insulting them to their faces.
