no, if it's the post i read, the guy said that he has been PLAYING for 14 hours, but that the game became much more like the first two after the first 4 or 5 hours.

There are two quotes. One says it takes 14 hours, one says it takes 4 hours for it to be like the Mass Effect everyone knows.

Seems to jive with some reviews I read / listened to a couple days back where they say the game really hits its stride about mid-way.

I know IGN's 'review in progress' says that. But I think it was more referring to all of the plot arcs of the trilogy and characters coming together at that point, which makes it overtake ME 2 in terms of being the better game? Prior to that, the reviewer hadn't thought it was quite as good as ME 2. That was my interpretation, though it could be wrong.

okay thanks.  didn't see that.  too much conflicting information.  all this tells me is that i will have to see for myself.  i'm not nearly as pessimistic as i have been tho. :)

From that thread

15 hours in is like 75-80% of the way through an ME game.

So the "better dialogue" would kick in towards the end. Which sums up what I've said before.

No problem and whether there's auto-dialog or not honestly doesn't bother me personally. I actually think the game'll be better for it, though I understand not everyone will like it and I do like the old-school RPGs too.

Just merely trying to get the correct info to people, which is obviously not working out.

What I can say with certainty though is that while Shepard does speak on his own from what I've seen, you do get chances to express how he's feeling about the war and such, if that helps any. Even if they're not exactly 'frequent'.

I apologize, I wasn't commenting directly on what you posted. Folks are observing the "auto-dialogue" reduces mid-way through the game and that seems to coincide with reviewers (not... sure if I've even read the IGN one) saying the game really picks up mid way.

Not exactly. People have said it's taken them 23 hours, 26 hours and then the reviews seem to claim 40 hours for everything (15 - 20 for the main plot), depending on how much stock you put into 'critic reviews'.

Reading that NeoGAF thread, they've given some quite outrageous playtimes for ME 2 in my view. They say less than twenty hours whereas it normally takes me between 20 - 30 hours, without many of the N7 missions done.

Really funny how people get wildly different playtimes.

Edit:

No problem at all, Almost. Never thought you were, though it wouldn't have been a problem if you had been addressing what I'd said. :)

I hope it gets better because at the moment it's pretty pathetic if I'm honest, I had to laugh at the they way they handled the second mission and not in a good way

The second mission from the demo, or the 2nd mission from the proper game? I wouldn't say the demo's representation of that mission is accurate, though I cannot say I've watched it from beginning to end in the full version. I do know that it's obvious parts had been cut out though.

Citadel is supposed to be the highpoint. Don't rush the plot though or you will get locked out of side quests.

Sorry, bad typo on my part! Some claiming between 13 - 17 hours, I think, for ME 2 completion times. You'll have to check. ;)

*grumbles about missing that mistake and goes to change it*

One of ME2 devs had a record time of finishing it more or less at 1:30h if I recall correctly.

Well, at least I've given you a laugh! Seriously though, I spend most of my time correcting typos on these posts, yet I can somehow turn out first drafts that have few grammatical errors. ;) Same when chatting online, when it comes to making mistakes.

Edit: And yes, that was another mistake on my part, Hunter. I said 'twenty hours to do everything. Some claiming between 13 - 17 hours', when it should have been just the '13 - 17 hours' part. ;)

Seems like a bit of an exageration. I guess you could come close if you skipped everything and ran/charged through encounters. It's suprisingly quick as a Vanguard even in "normal play".

Somwhere between 18-23 seems to be the common ME3 number. 23 was Xios with enough stuff to get the "best" ending.

I like the large amount of dialogue. Half of my enjoyment in the game is the awesome story. You need dialogue for that.

Same.

(*Cheers* No mistake this post! Though I'd have had to really try hard with a one word post.)
