Hi Everyone

On Wednesday we made the first of a series of changes to the BioWare Social Network by updating our site rules & code of conduct. We appreciate those of you who agreed to the new rules and are here helping us make the BioWare Social Network a better place for BioWare fans and staff. The next step in improving the BSN will take place this weekend.

We will be creating a Game Owners Forum for people who own Mass Effect 3 to discuss the game.  This new forum and many of the existing Mass Effect 3 forums will require users to have registered their game in order to be able to create or reply to a thread post.

For Mass Effect 3, game registration on BSN will be handled by detecting that the EA/BSN account you use to login to BSN has the Mass Effect 3 Online Pass associated with it.  The Online Pass is included with every new copy of Mass Effect 3 whether on PC, Xbox 360 or Playstation 3.  You can find instructions on how to activate your Mass Effect 3 Online Pass on any platform in the game registration page.

Please ensure that you are using the same EA account here on BSN as you are for playing Mass Effect 3, and that this is correctly associated to your Xbox Live or PlayStation Network accounts (for console players).  You can view what is associated to your BSN account here on your registered game entitlements page.

[How to register Mass Effect 3, and/or activate Online Pass]
On Xbox 360, Online Pass is activated by taking the separate Mass Effect 3 – Online Pass code, provided on a printed insert inside every Mass Effect 3 – Xbox 360 game box, redeeming that code on the Xbox Live code redemption screen, and then playing the game while logged in at least once.

On PS3 this is activated by taking the separate Mass Effect 3 – Online Pass code, provided on a printed insert inside every Mass Effect 3 – PS3 game box, redeeming that code on the PlayStation Network code redemption screen, and then playing the game while logged in at least once.

On PC, there is no separate Online Pass code. Instead the game registration page of BSN will detect your Mass Effect 3 game on your Origin account and treat this an Online Pass equivalent.

Hi Chris and thanks for the good news.

Can we know when will the website acknowledge and display ME3 registered stuff, as pre-orders are already available for d/l and Origin already has the codes of those downloading it? Just asking this because of new avatars and stuff that will be unlocked to ME3 owners on BSN. They will, right?

I'll be using all my dlc codes straight away so this isn't a problem for me. Of course, I'll probably be a little bit too busy to come on to the forums!

Well I won't be able to access the forums as myself because my gamertag is not linked, and cannot now be linked with this account. I didn't put my correct date of birth when I registered (why should I it's none of their business and I'm a long way from being underage for anything) and I cannot even view the date I did enter when I log in. Sooooo after about an hour where the EA guy (knowing i didn't have my D.O.B) took my address, real d.o.b, full name etc he came back and said... what's your date of birth? You don't have it? oh well then, I can't help you.

I hate EA so much right now

Is or will there be a way to 'permanently' agree to the site rules? I understand the necessity but it gets a bit annoying having the message literally shoved into my face every single time I login.

Trying to head off the ****storm that's brewing, I see; how very corporatist of you. You guys realize you're only adding more fuel to the fire, right? Ah, well...couldn't expect anything less from you at this point. Such a damned shame. I'd ask "what happened to you, BW?" but the answer no longer matters.

Well, going ahead and creating a game owners forum is a good way to go ahead and prepare instead of being caught up in surprise like with DA2 anyway. Also, I'm glad to see the updated rules and conduct inform everyone they won't be locked out of their games.

I think its a shame that new rules are needed, i know people loose their tempers a lot around here but cant we all express our views without resorting to personal attacks? Anyhow ill be registering my game as soon as i can.

Pitty we can't go on a true Witch-Hunt and run out the forum trolls for good.  I woulden't mind reinacting Mordin's use of farm equipment.

Just kidding.

It's good you're differentiating those who actually buy and register your products when analyzing feedback. Some people will call this a coroprate move, but the truth is, there needs to be a close, controlled enviroment as internet forums have really degraded themselves into places into sounding boards and constant conflict/argument/personal attacks.

Hopefully the new rules will help keep the forums semi friendly. Nothing wrong with arguing your point. :D

Civily, respectfully, or not at all.

This also means respect for the company, the product, the people who busted their arses off for something you may or may not enjoy.

This also means those who have genuine concernes and critisims of the game and medium and wish to discuss them.

Outrage on either end should not be tolerated.

I agree.  If you cant get your point across in a polite mannor you've already lost the argument.

I'm fine with the new BSN rules and C of C. No one should have to endure incivility from another whether in person or on-line. I'm passionate about Mass Effect and have been since the first game. I don't agree with everything Bioware or EA does but I'll offer my opinions and ideas in a polite, positive, manner. Personal attacks and a foul demeanor degrade the attacker and undermine their argument. Our community can and should be be a friendly, positive, place. We'll all likely see better things to come in various ways. Looking forward to Tuesday and ME3!

While I am completely in favor of the game owner's forum, the changes to the site rules are less a source of enthusiasm. I understand why they were made, but it seems to me that the necessary steps to protect your staff from harassment, up to and including bans, were possible under the old set of rules. "Zero tolerance" policies are never a good idea under any circumstances, because under those schemes something like criticism of a writer's style might be treated no differently than mockery of, for example, religious affiliation or lack thereof.

I think we all expect there to be limits to the toleration shown by BioWare and its representatives, but as loyal customers we also should expect those limits to be greater than zero. As fallible humans, we are all subject to the possibility of saying something unequivocally stupid from time to time, and if I faceroll a stupid comment onto these forums I feel that someone should be able to point that out in pretty blunt terms without facing an automatic perma-ban.

Can us in Europe still get at our favourite threads while we are waiting for the game to be released?

Thanks.

I think there is a big difference between saying that you don't like or are even severly put off by something and telling individuals who work for that company that their parentage or species should be called into queastion.

I doubt honest criticism or opinions expressed with a modicum of decency are going to get anyone banned.  In fact what I have seen in certain threads within the multiplayer discussion it seems that BW is generally interested in the input.

but if they are going to the effort to open a channel between the customer and themselves so that they can hear complaints, issues or ideas, consider them and implement those that fit within their creative view and bussiness models
then i think anyone choosing to use thier site to express themselves can be bothered to do so without resorting to personal attacks.

Glad to see the new rules, makes the forums a lot better.

I don't see Mass Effect 3 yet on the BioWare registration page though, and I'm logged-on in Origin as well.
