A lot of people are upset by ME3's ending because it doesn't feature Shepard riding off into the sunset with his/her love.

Before I get to my main point, a German writer by the name of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe wrote a novel entitled "The Sorrows of Young Werther" in 1774. The book became immensely popular, but there were many readers who were so distraught by the protagonist's suicide that some decided to write alternative endings in which Werther wins his love and doesn't commit suicide. And I quote:

It reputedly also led to some of the first known examples of copycat suicide. The "Werther Fever" was watched with concern by the authorities and fellow authors. One of the latter, Friedrich Nicolai, decided to create a happier—ending called Die Freuden des jungen Werthers ("The Joys of Young Werther"), in which Albert, having realized what Werther is up to, had loaded chicken blood into the pistol, thereby foiling Werther's suicide, and happily concedes Lotte to him. And after some initial difficulties, Werther sheds his passionate youthful side and reintegrates himself into society as a respectable citizen.

See what Mr. Nicolai did here? He refused to accept the ending and wrote his own. You can, too, for Mass Effect 3. It will be your very own canon story for your Shepard and his/her LI.

I don't see how hard it is to do something like that.

Like I said, I haven't seen a stronger argument for fan fiction.

When its time to make the final decision, I'm shutting off the game and opening a text document.

Headcanon isn't properly logical in its terminology.

Canon makes sense, putting head before it despite what it's intended to mean literally results in no sense.

I agree. Shepard needs a skull gun. They've surely got the tech by now.

You DO realise that rejecting parts of reality and substituting them with your own is one definition for madness, right?

Hard to argue with that. I'll admit I've dabbled at times. Most of what people publish are nauseating self-inserts, but some are amazingly well thought-out. There was one by a PhD medical student, Interstitium I think it's called, which explains in detail how the Lazarus Project works in a plausible fashion. It also had a damned hilarious extended version of Scientist Salarian.

There was another which postulated an ending for Mass Effect 3 which brilliantly tied together elements of the first two games. Awakening, I think it was called. Great read, if you don't mind some religious undertones.

There are others out there, but it'll be interesting to see what arises from this.

Lol.

ME is not even a representation of reality, so your argument has been invalidated.

I can see it now.

Droves of ME fans committing suicide over ME3's endings.

Mass Effect 3: Revolutions is also a great alternative ending for those of us who love Tali:

I'm not paying $60+ for a game just so I get to make up my own ending.
