You cannot join your friend's game because you are not using the same version of the game.

I get this error when I try to join a game from certain buddies, with others I can play without a problem. It began when I received the license for the N7 digital deluxe edition on origin a few hours ago. Any ideas how to circumvent that problem?
Private games seem to work for some reason...

Had exactly the same error message when trying to join a friend's party on xbox live this evening.

Standard public matches were fine.

I had the same thing happen on the PS3. Me and my buddy couldn't connect to each other for quite a few back and forth try's. But as mentioned above Private games seem to work for some reason.

Having the same problem - friend has digital deluxe, I have standard. "Not using same version". Nothing seems to work to get us in the same game, but we can both join public games.

Bumping this for an answer. I ran into this problem last night with 3 other people that were all running the CE hard copy of the game (like me). They could play together, but I could not join them or have them join my game. It's incredibly frustrating if you can't MP with your friends :(

Hello I understand the frustration, can you confirm that you all have patched the day 1 patch?

I assume you have PC, the best way is if you go into the General tab of the Origin Options (click the gear) and click on "Automatically keep my games up to date" check box and you can also right click and go to Check Game for Update.

I have this same issue, but then on PS3. I'm pretty sure we wouldn't be able to be online without patching, yet it still gives me this message.

Don't tell me the PS3 version is regionlocked. That would be a severe disappointment.

Is there a fix for the PS3 version of this yet? My brother and my cousin are using the digital version of ME3 while I have my CE hard-copy.

Are you using different discs of the game (friend using disc 1 and you using disc 2 for example)? Just a thought.

I couldn't get mine to work until I right-clicked in Origin tab to 'update to latest version' --it doesn't seem to automatically update --have to do it yourself in Origin library

Am having a similar problem.

Most of my friends have the Digital Delux Edition, and for whatever reason, I can never successfully join their games, and they can almost never succesfully join mine.

Even if there are multiple empty slots available, it will say 'Game is Full.'

On the PS3, digital users are on 1.02, while those with a disc based version are only on 1.01. Pretty dumb this was allowed to happen, and hopefully is fixed soon.

Had the same problem and I got it resolved. Cant guarantee it will work for you, but it's a star. Origin did not update my game automatically, so I had to get the update manually. You can do that by simply right-clicking the game in the Origin browser and selecting the "Check for Updates" option. Hope that helps!

After almost 4 hours of headache trying to figure out the version issue, we decided to meet up and exchange download files. There were three of us trying to play; 2 of us had downloaded the game digitally via Amazon and the third had bought a physical copy of the game.

Apparently, either the Game or Origins is having issues matching versions between the games and thinks they are incompatible with each other. This means if you intend on playing with your friend’s, make sure everyone is installing via the same method.

If you bought a copy of the game and are having issues connecting to your friends, you will have to reinstall with the same method your friends installed their games.

This will happen if 1 of 2 things are:
You are missing a patch/title update. On PC taking a patch is not mandatory for playing MP or we have just pushed out a new change: Such as a weekend event, balance changes, special pack etc.

They can be solved by either "checking for updates" or rebooting the game.

Yeah this happens a lot. I believe it has something to do with server side changes made by BioWare and when exactly they take affect. I've several times DC'd from a match and not been let back in because of this error.

The solution is to have you and your friend restart their games. That's always worked for me.

I was playing on a private lobby with my friends, got disconnected, tried to join the game again and couldn't because of that error. I quit the game, logged out from Origin and tried it again. Same error.

You picked up the weekend promo change, your friends have not. You have the latest version they do not.

They will need to reset

I sometimes have this problem on Xbox 360, as well. You're required to have the latest patches downloaded to even be able to load the game.

Edit: Oh, I'll test that next time.

I've gotten this on my 360 before and if everyone dashboards their console and relaunches the game we can join each other.

I had to restart origin for it to work for me today, I think.
