same prob for me also on the PC, sometimes i even get the you need "online pass to play multiplayer online" which i believe should only show on the console versions of the game ;P
You cannot join your friend's game because you are not using the same version of the game.

I am still getting this issue randomly with friends that I was previously able to join without issue. We both have the latest dlc too. (This is on ps3 btw)

Restart the game. Buffs just got pushed out and they may affect your compatibility with others if you are still in an old session.
