I've nothing of value to add apart from a 'me too' - I've tried it all; rebooting windows; uninstalling/reinstalling origin; reparing ME3 installation; updating; deleting cache folder. None of these suggestion work. uh.

I don't want my money back; I want to play the game I payed for. Unlike other people I know who are laughing at me because they're playing a, er, 'different' version which doesn't have this problem. This is frustating. And embarrassing. Someone stop those pirates who are enjoying the game from laughing at me because I want to be honest.

Someone? bioware? Is this because the servers are overloaded? It's ok; just tell me, I'll try tomorrow instead - any update would be nice - Just an ackowledgement that you're aware that this is a problem, and you're working on a fix.

I *really* want to play this game, and would much rather that than having to ask EA for my money back (As well as losing all faith in origin, and never again ordering a game through any online site but Steam. Never had a problem there.)

Windows ultimate, 64 bit;
16GB ram,
intel 2500k cpu

Same problem as those above, except that I didn't buy the digital version. I installed from disc. The game will not run. I get a message saying that it is launching, and it never does. I've tried repairing my installation, reinstalling Origin, adjusting the compatibility for the exe in properties, running as administrator, etc etc.

I pre-ordered this game back in August or September - whatever day I first could. I'm beyond irritated that I can't play it when I've spent so long anticipating its release. I hope someone is working on this.

basbaker - are you getting the incompatible with 64 bit message or is it just not starting?

Have you tried running it from the icon ender the EA>Mass Effect Folder?

@Delta I'm not getting any incompatibility messages - it simply will not run. I've tried running it from EA>Mass Effect as well as from Origin and from my desktop, and my start menu. Nothing makes a bit of difference.

Edit: The only thing I can think of to try that I haven't yet is a complete removal and reinstallation from disc.  But as it's nearly 2:30 in the morning, I think I'll save that for when I've had some sleep and am not quite so ticked.

@babaker - did it do the date validation unlock thing?

No, I'm certain it hasn't shown any message regarding date validation when I've tried to launch.

What I find odd, is that the desktop link on my version points to a file that doesn't exist. I can't seem to find the MassEffect3 executable file anywhere on my system. It is really odd. I try running it from Origin, and it just doesn't go anywhere (I assume because it is looking for the executable and doesn't find it...)

Just got off a chat with Live support

After explaining all the stuff I had done (as listed in the posts here)

This is what they told me:

=======================================
EA: Please have patience as the game is not fully launched, server takes time to update.
EA: Please try it after couple of hours so that it gets fixed.
Me: so is this known issue - are they releasing a patch?
EA: No, the game is not fully launched yet.
Me: yes it is
Me: people are playing it
EA: So, please have patience and try after couple of hours
EA: I understand your concern. But many others are facing this issue.
EA: Please be assured, you will be able to play the game very soon.
Me: if they are not releasing a fix - then how will the problem be resolved?
EA: Once the game is fully launched, it will be fixed automatically.
Me: when will be fully launched - the release date started yesterday
EA: Please try it after couple of hours.
==========================================

This seems like a crock - but we just pay our money and hope this is true.
My bet will that either someone in the community finds a work around or I will be back speaking to EA tech support in a few hours.  I hope for the former but believe it will be the latter.

I refuse to believe that load of utter crap. Friend of mine is playing in the same time zone on a system almost identical to mine- she had no problems. The game is fully launched.

Delta, after talking to four different Live support agents, I have come away with a disheartening conclusion: they have no idea what's going on, and they're just shuffling us between time consuming tasks hoping that we'll give up (ideally) or end up restarting our computers so they can move our tickets to another agent.

Here is a rough summary of my calls:

Agent 1) the DLC hasn't launched yet, and that is preventing the N7 edition from launching...a patch for the DLC will be released in a few days, that's when the N7 edition will work. (when I pressed the issue a little bit, the agent terminated the chat session)
Agent 2) Uninstall and reinstall the Origin client from the following link, while I'm at it, may as well reinstall ME3, too.
Agent 3) Uninstall and reinstall the program from the physical disks. (Bear in mind, I preordered the N7 Digital Deluxe Edition from Origin, when I pointed this out for the third time, the agent said "oh...try clearing the offline cache"...this was *after* he/she insisted that I uninstall ME3...so, a 10gb install ensued, prompting another handoff to another agent)
Agent 4) Format your hard drive, reinstall Windows (which I flat out will refuse to do, especially considering it didn't help the other bloke who actually followed this "advice"). When pressed, the agent suggesting uninstalling ME3, restarting the computer, and reinstalling it after the reboot. (after telling the agent that this would be the third time I've reinstalled ME3 and that I've been through these troubleshooting steps before, the agent replied "yeah, sure // is there anything else I can help you with today? [chat session terminated]")

I REALLY don't want to ask for a refund (especially since the last EA game I EVER asked for a refund for was the original Wing Commander)...but this is getting ridiculous!

Uuuuuuuuggggggghhhhhhhh!

Okay, don't ask me how and don't ask me why...'cuz I sure as #### have no clue what happened. After uninstalling ME3, rebooting my computer, and reinstalling ME3, clicking on the Origin icon to load the game, getting the error, updating ME3 back to the 41mb exe file, repair the installation, running the Origin icon *again* (for ####'s and giggles), erroring out, updating back, running the Origin icon for the hat trick, cancelling out of the Windows UAC window, navigating to the ME3 installation folder and manually running the MassEffect3.exe file in Explorer caused the file to shrink back down to 21.8mb...but it ran right through the Release Date Verification window, the EA splash screen, and into the main menu.

W...T...F... (and no, I cannot stress that enough...seriously!)

--EDIT-- And for even greater levels of confusion: now the Origin icon actually runs the game.

Ein7919 - I am glad it is working for you now. Maybe some hope

The exe thing is really wierd - patch it goes to 41 Mb. Run it, crashes out, back to 21Mb and requires the patch again. WTF?

Anyone else getting this?

Did a checksum using http://www.pc-tools....md5sums-1.2.zip

Before Patch:
[D:\\Program Files (x86)\\Electronic Arts\\Mass Effect 3\\Binaries\\Win32\\]
MassEffect3.exe                                fba0daac30f1cf2aa9c17587e88a90de

After Patch:
[D:\\Program Files (x86)\\Electronic Arts\\Mass Effect 3\\Binaries\\Win32\\]
MassEffect3.exe                                00a118c6af390f86836ddcde93e26cb6

After Run that shrinks it back to 21846 kb:
[D:\\Program Files (x86)\\Electronic Arts\\Mass Effect 3\\Binaries\\Win32\\]
MassEffect3.exe                                fba0daac30f1cf2aa9c17587e88a90de

The checksum is the same for the exe before the patch and after it crashes with the 64 bit compatability message!!!  Meaning it reverts to the unpatched state.

Is it failing to unencrypt and corrupting itself - hence the wierd 16bit incompatible 64bit thing?

Continuing the Research

"I'm Commander Shepard and this is my favorite game that won't run on the Citadel"

Ok - More information

When you run the masseffect3.exe, it actually kicks off a thing called masseffect3_activation.exe.  This is copied and run from Drive:\\Users\\<user>\\AppData\\Local\\Temp\\mtka_tmp (there's lots of logs there for me but no exe).  I suspect this attempts to decrypt the encrypted masseffect3.exe but fails for some reason and corrupts the exe, hence the strange error message.

This is all guess work, but it seems plausible

Can anyone confirm this?

Well my game still doesn't run this morning - not that I expected it would. So I've uninstalled both the game and Origin and will install them both again. Can't confirm your theory Delta, but it sure seems plausible.

Also, that "the game isn't fully launched yet so just wait" is complete BS. I tend to agree with Ein's belief that tech support would like us all to just go away.

this helped me out
1)uninstalled and reinstalled Origin client
2) uninstalled and re-downloaded ME3
3)Launched Origin and DL' updated - still got error message
4) Went to ME3 folder and ran MassEffect3.exe

After that game launched, i exited and tried to launch game from Origin and it worked :wizard:

Still no luck for me. I think some of us are going to have to wait for bioware to fix the problem on their end.

Just started working for me.

So what I had to do. I updated origin, and updated the game. Then I went the the actual file folder of the executable. I set it to be compatible for windows 7.
I went to the securom location in regedit and set it to give all permissions.
Then I looked for a file called atiags.dll and changed it to atiags.dll.bac.
Then I double clicked on the icon. It ran the date check and it set the file to 21mb.
Then it launched the file no problem.
I can also launch it now directly through origin itself.

I don't know what of these things fixed the problem but it's working now so there you go.

Don't ask me how, or why, but just like Ein7919 after screwing around for hours, I clicked on the program group icon (under the windows icon thing) and the validation thing ran and I could start the game. One thing I did different was not having Origin running at the time. One it finishes the validation, it starts Origin and away I went.

Good Luck guys, hope yours' works soon too.

I carried out the following steps to get ME3 to work on my Win 7 Ultimate x64 bit OS.

1st: download the 40mb update.
2nd: Carry out a repair installation.
3rd: Right click properties for the ME3 icon. Under properties, select run program in "Win 7" compatible mode.

BTW, if you see any message about running the release date update, just select "accept".

This should work now! :)

Tried it, dint work! Also tried renstalling and dint work! Please help!

I'm playing (and still playing) the game.

If the above do not work for you, then you really have to wait for EA/Bioware to release a patch.

I've encountered that situation before.

If the game does not run or if the error message shows up, it means the same thing.
ME3 is not working for you.

You will have to wait for an upgrade patch.

So I've done just about everything in this thread, and I've got no love at all. Those of you who are actually in the game, is it even fun?

My evening:

Atempt to install game from discs. Will not install.
Atempt to install again. ME3 tries to install Origin, sees I already have Origin, then crashes.
Cannot reinstall from discs.
Uninstall and reinstall Origin.
ME3 will not install from discs.
Enter product codes into Origin. First thing that has worked all day.
ME3 begins downloading from Origin at an abysmally slow rate.
Cancel download, uninstall files.
Reinitiate download at ~ 3 MB/sec.
game "successfully" installed.
Attempt to start game.
Origin crashes.
Restart Origin.
Repair ME3 installation.
Attempt to launch ME3.
Origin crashes.
Rinse, repeat.

I've tried launching straight out of the install directory, off a desktop icon, off a taskbar icon, as an admin, with compatibility, with Origin on, off, missing...Nothing zip nada. I've cleared my download cache, deleted installers, danced a jig and posted on the internet. Anyone know what I'm supposed to do next?

I'm having the same problem. When I try to start up the game it attempts to verify the release date, jumps to about 80%, the crashes. On all following attempts it crashes without even getting the window until I do the 'installation repair'. I've tried all the little fixes scattered across the internet I could find, and i'm contemplating using a no-cd crack (how I fixed DA2 when I had this same.exact.problem) but i'm afraid Origin will somehow notice and ban me from the stuff I paid for. I'm going to keep working and fiddling with it until i'm forced to try a full uninstall/reinstall.

i had a problem installing the game, for me the Origin file on the disk was bad & I had to re-download and re-install Origin. After that the game installed fine. U do need origin running, and probably logged in to install the game. I do have 64 bit win7 and i am having no problem playing the game.
The only issues I have noticed is 1) robo dog died, 2) i have to press the M button repeatedly to get it to come up sometimes.
