TB already panned the game for DLC and ethics and he doesn't even accept free review copies instead he gets a press version to preview on his channel. Clearly your faith in Tom is misplaced.

A true journalist does not accept anything and instead uses his own money to rate the game because he/she puts himself in the position of a consumer and if he says this game is not worth $60 then people won't buy it because they know he/she spent $60.

And if he already panned the game for DLC and ethics, doesn't the fact that he nonetheless considered it good enough to praise it actually reinforce the idea that he's telling the truth?  Because you're arguing that the fact that he has a built in bias against the game means his postive review of the game is less reliable, when it probably means its more reliable.

As to your second point, even if they're not paying for the game, I think people have a decent idea of what $60 is worth - and besides, any major title costs pretty much the same.

Again: IGN didn't exactly give stellar reviews to Dante's Inferno, Army of Two, or the console versions of Mirror's Edge.  And if you want to say they're "bad", fine, but IGN's score reflected both the critic average and user average on metacritic in all of those cases (they were a bit on the high side for Army of Two, a bit on the low side on Mirror's Edge, and right on target on Dante's Inferno).

One reviewer's opinion (particularly one whose opinions differed from mine on other releases) aren't going to sway me in to buying the game. I want to see the fan review. Meaning I want to see how it goes after release, before buying.

I'm also a firm believer that no "review" can exist on something not released. Re-view. To view again. It's impossible to review something not having seen it through once, and if someone can review a game having had it for two days, I say BS, that's not enough time. Tell me how you feel about the game after a week, a month, was it still worth $60? Then I'll buy.

Did you even play Medal of Honor? It was far from awful. It was actually really good, and most people who actually played the game agreed that Medal of Honor told a real gripping narrative that cod and other fps shooters fail to do. Ign failed with that review..

But still, there's countless of reviews to counter argue that statement. They had no fear in calling the EA Published game Dantes Inferno a "solid game, with solid mechanics" yet gave a lower score for being a **** and stealing a bunch of mechanics from other games.

Sounds like a slightly more academic version of Yahtzee's "Like God of War But" stamp.

Although if I'm recalling it correctly, that particular episode he dropped the "But" part.

Yea lets trust the reviewers just like Dragon Age 2. Remember how that went in our favour. The only people I trust are people who buy the game with their own money.

I actually enjoyed Dragon Age II more that the first.   And yes, I bought the game with my own money.

Yet many people hated it, as it was such a radical departure from the first game.  For the same reason, I enjoyed it.  I personally felt that DA:O was a generic modern role-playing game that tried desprately to embody the "old school" feeling and failed.

Personally, before anyone trashes the game I think they should play it.  Even if they hate the endings, they might enjoy the actual game for what it is.   People are so caught up on a one minute cutscene they forget that there's about 19 hours and 59 minutes of other content which could be "goddamn perfect", as Zaeed would say.

I love tom to death and I agree about gameplay and dialog/exposition. The plot and endings and the twist i fundamentally do not agree on.

i agree,

from the very beginning bioware has been stating how this is our shepherd, and we decided his story. but it seems, in the final game, Bioware has decided to tell us how its gonna end. WHAT happend to our story??

To be fair this is a known trend. Look at how KOTOR I and II were integrated into TOR. Regardless of what you did or how you aprroached these hard questions, HK must die and both protagonists are essetially turned into raving lunatics as NPCs.

Sometimes I wonder if BW just hates happy ending period. Greek and Chinese tragedy can only be used so much before it becomes rote.

For a title very loudly touting a vastly open-ended endgame. That is absolutely not the case. Now while I think that the potentiality in the endings is more open than most have been suggesting, I also think people were actively deceived by marketing-speak and the entire premise of choice was an illusion.

Tom Chick recently finished Mass Effect 3. He gave his overall thoughts on the game, and the ending as well on the Quarter to Three podcast show.

To hear the discussion skip to the 52:00 mark: http://www.quarterto.../#disqus_thread

For people who are to lazy to listen here are the basic cliff notes of what he said;

-He said it was the best out of the three
-Really liked the gameplay and levels
-Really loved the overall narrative, and is really eager to discuss it further
-Was so good he wants to play again

His thoughts on the ending: He really loved the ending, and loved that Bioware took a interesting bold choice. Agreed that some people might not like, but he personally, loved it and felt it tied all the knots to the Mass Effect triology. A perfect conclusion of sorts.

"interesting bold choice" This confirms it. 7/7 grimdark. Normandy stranded on Planet Deliverance if they live at all. And no alternative for ppl who, personally, don't love it. Awesome.

1. If you bothered to listen to the podcast you would notice how he said he NEVER really liked Mass Effect
2. If you even know Tom Chick or even read any of his RPS reviews then you know he's a notoriously harsh critic and rarely praises games.
3. Review copies are sent to any website. From big sites, to small sites. EVERY single gaming related site get's a review copy. There's no, "oh your ign here's yours. And you? Sorry EDGE let's wait till March 6th for you." No, everyone get's review copies at the same time (or roughly the same time)
4. RPS, and Tom Chick are not big influental sites. Of course many people read RPS, and many PC gamers know how he is, and what not. But still this isn't IGN who gets thousands of vistors a day.

So seriously back off. If he wanted to flame the game, he easily could've.

If he never really liked the mass effect games, then he never got emotionally invested in shepard and the other characters. That is the problem with the people who review this game and give it good scores. They see shepard as just a some guy and the other characters as just some people. They don't really care that much to see all them die and sacrificed. We do.

Just one ending, just one where shepard has her friends.

I suppose it depends on the Shepard in question. My Renegon doesn't care if he dies. He doesn't care if his crew dies even if he loves them all like family. All he cares about is stopping the Reapers. He doesn't expect a happy ending, just prays for victory. My Paragade is pretty much the same.

That being said, the ending would be a downer for my pure Paragon. Of course, I think that would make it all the more fulfilling.

The ending is what matters. The journey will get nullified if the ending is total bullsh*t. For a lot of people at least. The rest of the content can be the best evah, but still the money on the game would be wasted if the ending is horrible, since there's no way I'll playthrough a story again to get to that horrible ending once more.

50 euros for a game that'll have some 20 hours played? Not worth it. I got 323 hours on ME2 and I want atleast as many hours from ME3, if not more.

Agree. I'll ask this question about this guys review. "As someone who doesn't follow the story line that closely" how can he say " it ties the story arc's up nicely"?
When I heard that I was like " how can you make a comment like that when you don't really follow the story?"

I'm going to rename my Shepard to Ronald Taylor.

Then I'm going to get to buisness in the apocalypse.

Must be nice to be disrespectful like that behind a computer screen. I asked a simple question. An yet you need to be insulting, as well as, showing your lack of civility. You need to grow up little dude.

Edit: BTW I hate twilight. Cause vampires don't sparkle.
