Tom Chick has long been known as a contrarian. He is made fun of quite frequently on his own site for the against the grain stances he takes on a lot of popular media, including games. Don't get me wrong, I've always liked his review style, but the fact that he loved the ending, doesn't mean that they aren't totally bleak and depressing, he didn't really even like the 2 previous games all that much.

edited: oh, and he is not a rabid bioware fan, far as I can tell from he comments about their previous products.

It hasn't been confirmed they get stranded. That's a rumor.

Wrong. The video's existence is a confirmation in itself.

That doesn't show the Normandy crash, that doesn't show them stranded, it just shows the ship get caught in the blast. It confirms nothing.

Indeed it does. You expect the Noramndy to get out of that unscathed? Joker and anyone in the ship is dead (or stranded).

I'm sorry, all I see is the Normandy getting caught in a blast. I fail to see any stranded/crashed Normdany in that video.

Lol watching the Biodrones/Biowhiners trying to justify why a reviewer would like ME3 is amusing even sad.

Seeing how you guys can't use the" EA BOUGHT THEM OFF" line because he's not one of the bigwig reviewers, I love how we're going with the "He's a stupid console gamer therefore his opinions is invalid"

You guys do realize that this dude has been known for going against what is considered popular etc? He rates games based on what he believes. You can't get a more honest reviewer than that.

Go check this guy out...

You're assuming. The thing about assumptions is that they are not factual. You have nothing.

How does his opinion count for anything with statements like this, "As someone who doesn't follow the story line that closely, Bioware ties them (story arcs) up nicely"?

It still doesn't prove they're stranded and doomed to starvation. It only shows that they crashed.  There is no evidence that they are dead either.

You don't understand? They don't crash at a five star resort where everything is fine and dandy and Shep gets to marry his LI and live happily ever after with an abundance of children.

The ending is total rubbish, otherwise! How dare you create a realistic ending, BioWare. How dare you!

Yea lets trust the reviewers just like Dragon Age 2. Remember how that went in our favour. The only people I trust are people who buy the game with their own money.

I actually enjoyed Dragon Age II more that the first.   And yes, I bought the game with my own money.

Yet many people hated it, as it was such a radical departure from the first game.  For the same reason, I enjoyed it.  I personally felt that DA:O was a generic modern role-playing game that tried desprately to embody the "old school" feeling and failed.

Personally, before anyone trashes the game I think they should play it.  Even if they hate the endings, they might enjoy the actual game for what it is.   People are so caught up on a one minute cutscene they forget that there's about 19 hours and 59 minutes of other content which could be "goddamn perfect", as Zaeed would say.

The ending is what matters. The journey will get nullified if the ending is total bullsh*t. For a lot of people at least. The rest of the content can be the best evah, but still the money on the game would be wasted if the ending is horrible, since there's no way I'll playthrough a story again to get to that horrible ending once more.

50 euros for a game that'll have some 20 hours played? Not worth it. I got 323 hours on ME2 and I want atleast as many hours from ME3, if not more.

Did you play 300+ hours of Mass Effect 2 because the ending was fantastic?  Or did you play it because you enjoyed the game?

My point is, it seems a little silly from my perspective to judge the game based simply on the ending, without seeing how everything plays out.  Maybe when you actually sit down and play the game from start to finish, you'll understand why it ended the way that it did.   Or maybe you will still hate it but feel the game itself is really fun to play.

Maybe I'm the rare ME fan, but I never played the games because I was expecting a great ending - I played them because I liked the universe, the characters, and especially the gameplay which gets better with each game.  Based on the demo, the main bulk of the game (combat) is a blast.  Why wouldn't I play it and enjoy it?

I thought it was a 5 star resort, cause Joker and Edi looked so happy. :pinched:

Maybe they played it because they could actively affect and effect an/the ending.
