First off, I'm not trying to hate on the SS thing in ME3, so let's keep things civil here.
Anyway, am I the only one who's a little worried that while trying to get to know a same sex character you might accidentally romance them? I mean I play male shep, and garrus is my bro, so I'm definitely gonna want to talk to him a lot, but I wouldn't want to romance him, I'm not into that. Does anyone know how clear the line will be there, or if there will be a disable same sex relations feature?

1. Kaidan and Steve are the only s/s options for males.
2. You have to flirt with them first.

For Kaidan, are you sure?

I hope that Cortez and Kaidan are like Liara. And awkwardly flirt with you in every conversation.

Kaidan's the exception. Assuming he survives, the opening of ME3 is basically like the opening of Witcher 2 but with more d*ck.

I find it amusing people are concerned about this. I mean irl do you normally get guys hanging out with you "hey dude i really want some of your man meat" and you end up in bed with them? Or do you do the sensible thing and simply declare "Sorry i'm interested in women" and move on. Because if ending up in bed with guys happens to you often i'd start asking yourself some questions.

Avoid romance?! Kaidan grabs you by the BUTT when helping you up the Normandy.

And then comes the dilemma, if your supposedly straight male Shepard actually likes it when Kaidan does this.

Sorry. Sodomizing Garrus is mandatory.

Back on topic, I believe the actual concern was the possibility of accidentally stumbling into a romance without knowing that's what the dialogue option was for, a problem that Dragon Age II solved by marking romance options with heart and broken-heart icons.

And people still whined. Seriously, between the terrible writing, the lack of regard for choices made in previous games, and the rushed everything, the thing people picked to whine about was that consistently picking the "be gay" option in conversation led to gay stuff?

I'm sure the paraphrase for the romance dialogue will be painfully obvious, like it was in the previous games.

Plus, it will be on the paragon side of the wheel 99% of the time, like in revious games.

I assume that either way, it will become clear when your coveted 'brohood' is sliding into more intimate waters, and if it does so, you would still get the option to decline potential 'brojobs.'

ME2 was already an improvement over the ninjamancing going on in ME1.although you still had to be very careful when talking to some opposite gendered characters...and that's not something a lot of people would complain about unlike an accidental guy-on-guy romance. So I'm pretty sure ninjamancing won't happen and you can have your bromance :)

If Cortez is anything to go by, there are THREE ways to back out of a homosexual relationship. All of which are crystal clear without any room for interpretation. For example (and I'm not even joking or paraphrasing):

- Haven't found the right man.

- Haven't found the right woman.

If you still afraid of being ninjaed by a gay character with choices like these then I'm sorry but you should probably seek help for dyslexia or something.

Anyway, Garrus is not available for new romance, gay or straight. So it doesn't matter.

If you'd watched the cortez romance you'd know you have nothing to worry about.

So my femshep that romanced Garrus can't continue in ME3?

You can continue it in ME3, you just can't start it in ME3.

Same goes for Tali and male Shepard.

I'm excited about the s/s, but I think the OP has a valid concern. In ME2 in order to start a romance with someone of the opposite sex you had to pretty much just never talk to them or be an ass all the time. There was one time I had just done Thane's loyalty mission and talking to him I got two dialogue options, one was "I want you" and the other was "focus on your son" I was romancing Garrus in that playthrough and so I picked "focus on your son" but at the end of the conversation he starts calling me siha and I was like "oh no you don't" and reset. I just didn't talk to him anymore after that. I love talking to all the characters but it sucks when just talking to them=romance.. Like romancing Jack but having her be all "I'm not your only stop down here and you are a slimy cheater" type deal if you also talk to Tali. Yes, chatting about the migrant fleet or Cerberus is so flirtatious. Don't even get me started on femshep and Jacob lol. It sucks if the only way to let down a character you like but don't want to romance is by being an ass.

I only romanced by mistake once and it was during my first play through of ME1. I had flirted with Ashley and Liara the whole game but thought nothing of it until the two of them confronted me about who I wanted. Funny that you can ask to be with both and you still end up with the blue chick :-)

That's not related to gay romance, however. In the past, there weren't really separate friendship and romance tracks. You either had somebody you could romance who would only really talk to you as long as they thought they were in a romance, and you had squadmates who couldn't be romanced who actually had interesting dialogue that you could actually read, regardless of gender or intent.

I believe they've said they improved on this for ME3, so that it's not "romance or nothing" for all the characters who can be romanced.

In any case, the only person you wouldn't be able to talk to is Kaidan, even if it was the same as it was in ME2. Steve apparently talks some, even if you don't pursue him (probably similar to how Kelly worked in ME2).

No idea about Kaidan, but at least with Steve, you've got three layers of "I'm NOT GAY" dialogue protection before it's raining men.
