To absolutely nobody's surprise, PhysX has decided to have another issue. First, it was the inability to play Mass Effect 2 after installing the Mass Effect 3 demo.

And now? After pre-loading and attempting to install, I am being told "Error: A redistributable package (PhysX) was not installed successfully. Setup cannot continue. (1603.)

I could sit here and ****, but I merely want a solution to this, and I'd prefer it to be expedient. How do I fix it and avoid any unpleasant surprises on launch day?

Have this problem as well. Some pointers would be nice.

I had a similar problem with ME2 a while back that was caused by glitchy graphics drivers, not the games. I had to remove all of my graphics drivers through "add/remove programs", install an older version of the nvdia/evga drivers to roll-back the physx version, then install the latest version of the driver package. Avoid the 'beta' drivers at all costs, every time I've used beta's it totally screwed up the physx software.

OK. It was a driver issue. Updated mine and had no problem installing -- hope this clears the matter up for anyone else.

I had a similar issue running ME2 after installing the ME3 Demo. Apparently the Demo for ME3 uses a later version of the PhysX system software then ME2 does. This can be corrected by installing the PhysX system software under the mass effect 2/redist folder in order to play ME2 again. You will then have to reinstall the PhysX system software from the origin/Mass Effect 3 demo/_Installer/physx/redist folder to get the ME3 demo to play. I hope this turns out not to be the case for the game, but we will have to wait to see.

Psynonamous635, which drivers did you use?

And Gorath Alpha? EA help is worthless. Told me to wait until launch.

Here is how I fixed the issue.  I use ATI so I needed just to update the software but that wasn't happening.  I couldn't uninstall the early version of Physx.  There is this thing called Microsoft Fix It and through that I was able to uninstall the Physx software and update to the newest version of Physx and once I did that I was able to install ME3 without that error popping up.

Hope that helps

I'm currently running Nvdia/evga 285.62-desktop-win7-winvista-64bit-english-whql, but I'm going to upgrade to 295.73 later today. When I had the problem with ME2 and PhysX I was running one of the beta drivers, if you're having the problem with PhysX you need to download an older version of the graphics drivers - after manually removing the current set, and then run the install for the newest drivers.

The problem I had was, the beta drivers screwed up the PhysX drivers so I couldn't even remove them, the only work around I found was loading an older version... took a bit of time but finally got everything fixed.

I'm having this problem as well - I'm not running an Nvidia card at all, and updating my card's drivers seemed to do nothing.

So I guess I'm the only one having trouble with the software that does nothing on my computer at all, eh?

The issue still persists after uninstalling and reinstalling Origin, and my computer refuses to let me uninstall PhysX.

So am I ****ed, or what?

Try to download and install NVidia System PhyX even if your graphic card is not a NVidia one ;)
If you have old version, it will update it
