Are Mass Effect Sex Scenes too PG-13?

Sorry if this has been posted before. And I'd like to begin by saying that,  I was always satisfied with the amount of "skin" shown in ME1&2.

I grew up playing games like "Conker's Bad Fur Day" and "God of War" (in middle school), so it's not like the topic of sex never came up in games before--they just never showed anything "graphic." However, when I looked at the "Launch-Trailer thread" someone actually complained that Ashley was wearing a sport bra/bikini top in the sex scene.

I never minded that sex was censored in games. But I didn't play games like "Witcher 2" when I was growing up, so I was just wondering, do people think  "Mass Effect Sex" is too PG-13 for a game about adults trying to save the galaxy?

Once again,  This thread is not about the NEED for sex-scenes in games. They exist, and they are in the game.

This thread was made to ask the question if these scenes needed more sexual "realism."

Many people have said "no we like our romance tasteful." Many say "yes we like our pixelated boobs in the buff." But I just wanted to know what other people thought.

Another question I wanted to ask was: do people think BW should be concerned about media backlash for sex-scenes anymore?

or is this a silly phobia, with more sexually graphic games like the Witcher 2 not catching any heat?

Hey, it was more skin than was shown in Mass Effect 2. Not counting Jack of course, that was just weird.

Well, it has a M for Mature rating. So yes, I think it's quite fine. Also, ****** and penis is waorse than death, maiming, interactive warfare and kids being vaporized? All out war, death, and destruction is fine, but the moment anything sexual happens, well ya know...the kids are gonna be corrupted and all that jazz.
I should stop before this becomes a culture war.

Remember what happened with Mass Effect? That had a grand total of a 10 second sex scene and those degenerates we call the media turned it into a giant ****storm

I think they were scared by the whole "FOX Scandal" with Liara's blue butt showing that they're playing it safe from now on.

PG-13 isn't the right word for it. Since ME1 was pretty tame but arguably the best way to handle the sex scene. I don't know the right word - maybe the word would be tasteful? They aren't...mature enough? It's too primal and awkward looking?

The Witcher...I've seen the scene in question and I personally think it's too much. No, not because of nudity. But because it doesn't seem like a love scene. I mean, the guy is nailing her from every which angle. Now, before someone argues that couples that are in love have sex like that all the time. It's "realistic." Unfortunately, you gotta throw realism out the window a little bit if you want to convince your audience that these two characters actually love each other and aren't just horny jack rabbits.

If that scene has emotion flowing through it and is appropriate with whichever relationship shown, then I could care less if there is skin or not, this whole mindset of skin = more mature boggles my mind. I could relate that to Jack's scene, her scene had a lot of emotion going through it and it was right for WHO she is and what their relationships means; no sex and ending in a calm cuddled state, just being there for each other and embracing each other (while not rushing or forcing anything upon her, which is important).

Now, with that small glimpse of Ash and Shep, when was the last time they spent time with each other, almost 3 years? I can image it being really passionate (tearing off clothing, doing whatever) because what they've been through with each other. If it fades to black before going any futher, use your imagination if needed - Bioware doesn't have to show everything, at least IMO.

I think it's fine the way it is. I don't have an issue with more explicit scenes, but they are not necessary to me.

Oh and BTW thanks Spiros I think you captured the POINT/spirit of ME sex scenes perfectly, I'll try to keep in mind that these ME sex scenes are focused on emotions>hardcore banging.

Image IPB I like Mass Effect even more, because at least it tries to be "tasteful"

If I see too much digital skin I physically melt, so yes, I think it should be toned back.

Not graphic? That game had a sex mini game with two women fully nude.Image IPB

The sex minigame was just a QTE that panned away from the action and lets you imagine pixelated boobies--so no not graphic. Have you seen the "Witcher 2" sex scenes? That guy would bone a gorgon--hardcore--he makes Kratos look like Woody Allen in the bedroom. Image IPB but that's just my opinion. . .we all have different ideas of "graphic sex scenes"Image IPB

I don't really mind either way, myself - but I can't watch even DA2 romance scenes in front of my parents without a freakout of some sort. XD

There's actually an amusing story behind why I never use the flatscreen in the family room for gaming...

We are not children we are Mature enough well if you own the game or not. I wish it were like back in The Original Mass Effect. I want to see Liara skin and hsve good scenes. I know we deserve something. Kids and Children should be playing this game anyways it have a Mature rating anyways. I know most parents and news are stupid also.

BSNers just need to learn to use websites for their "material" not Bioware games, lots more content on the internet.

I wouldn't mind a bit more skin. The game is rated 17+ so they can allow themselves a bit more freedom in their screen shot selection.
