Lol! "horny" fans.

If they are going to show a sex scene, do it properly, don't show me a draw of a bee and his seed.

So you've got to see the man pounding the woman in order for you to understand that they're having sex, huh? Nice and subtle.

And you lol when I call them "horny" fans.

Naked people... and yes, movement it's part of sex.

I think the point is that most people around here knows how sex works.

So we don't need to see the act, or even parts of the act - like nudity and thrusting to know that sex has happened.

For example, on prime-time network television shows, there aren't that many virgins. Just about all the characters are either having sex or have had sex. But we don't see them having sex, we don't see nudity and we don't see thrusting. Sorry: movement.

Because the audience is smart enough to recognize when sex has happened.

It's... astonishing how I'm having to explain this.

Do the words political ****storm mean anything to you?

haha, but in all seriousness, i do find it funny that the destruction of a sentient beings in the galaxy is more appropriate than a simple sex scene. also, I dont think Bioware has to worry about a media backlash...and at this point i doubt they would care.

PS: go boobs!

I assume "prime time" in english/US means stuff on TV that is on at the best times to watch television, when most people are home and able to see TV, usually near or on weekend. If right, I also assume it means a time that is accessable for underage watchers. If so, I don't see why you brought it up when we discuss an M rated game, what in TV would essentially equal after midnight shows, or coded channels.

The situation now is as if a TV channel would fear a witch hunt and would only allow smurfs/disney/knitting show on a coded channel after midnight, despite having a proper M rating for the whole channel.

If it is M, make it M, if it is age 13 and below, then sell it like that.

For me, it's a rather academic question.

If the relationships were remotely believable, and were portrayed in a far more adult matter, rather than hero worship where everyone wants to bone you just because you happen to be the Main Character ™, then I'd say the sex scenes are way too PG.

But, in a game that is as sterile as Mass Effect, and pushed through a fine comb to appeal to a large audience, rather than a specific one, then I think the sex scenes and their staleness just fit right into that, and can hardly be criticizied in a vacuum.

There are other developers who aren't concerned over being the video game equivalent of Disney. Those developers can take risks and push things. Bioware makes a lot of money now by being Disney. But, it also means they are restricted in what they portray. It's sort of the inevitable evolution of a financially successful business really, where you are almost forced to continue to increase your target audience and profits.

It will never cease to amaze (and amuse) me that so many gamers get so worked up over some cheesy lovey-dovey dialogue and creepy "love scenes" that plunge headlong into the uncanny valley.

Good for you. Many said the same about books and cinema long ago. I'm glad most creators don't share your antiquated views.

No. Prime time shows have plenty of stuff that kids shouldn't watch. TV shows are rated in Canada/US as well as... everywhere. Of course here in the West there's a double-standard when it comes to sex and violence. In prime time there's often horrific violence but sex in comparison is muted.

That being said, if you're gonna compare the romance scenes in ME3 or whatever to The Smurfs, Disney, or knitting shows, then you've either never watched the Smurfs, a Disney movie, or a knitting channel... or then I guess nothing less than softcore pornography will suffice. And that's just not gonna happen.

Seriously, that's a really dumb comparison.

"cheesy lovey-dovey dialogue" like the romances in Baldur's Gate 2 were one of the reasons I became a fan of Bioware, you and I guess many others don't realize what a huge loss it would be if they suddenly stop including these into their games, they would fall into the line of most generic dev teams then. If they start to cut back (and I assume they already did between ME1-2 and DA1- and 2) one doesn't know when they will stop, and what else they will remove that was the norm in their games until now.

I just used an extreme as an example for easier understanding, what I wrote earlier about the pirate themed game is a better one.

I don't think anything except the short love scene in ME1 was worth of an M rating (not even that tbh), in ME2 one may say the melting people at the end of the game may have given a reason for some people to make it M rated, but honestly it is even less an M worthy game than ME1. I feel as if developers start to use the M rating as a "looky here, epic game with epic content, not really bloody or somesuch but we got an M rating so its epic!" label to sell better without any real value or need of the rating itself.

Why no skin in games? And I expect a real argument from you, not a 'go to the internetz for porn' cop out.

I should have been more clear. Lemme say it again:

I don't think there needs to be any skin.

OP appears to think that sex scenes and naked people have to be a part of game romance. I don't think they need to be. I'd rather have a dozen in-depth conversations about our relationship than a sex scene.

For example, my sex scene with Morrigan didn't do anything for me. But the conversations, where she asked me to leave her, to stop loving her, because it hurt to love, and it would break her...that's what made me fall in love with her as a character.

I agree with spirros' (is that the name?) comment up there. If it's appropriate, I don't really have aproblem with it. But I strongly strongly disagree with the notion that it NEEDS to be in a romance.

I think it's fine as it is. If they want to go the Witcher route, it would probably be an improvement, but if not done properly it will seem juvinile. In the end of the day, the context is there, and making the romance scenes more or less revealing would do nothing to the overall ME3 experience, since it's not about boning people. I do however, greatly enjoyed all of the romances in Bioware games, but there is no need to add explicit nudity.

How would it be juvenile if it was done correctly?

Unless juvenility was the intention...?

edit: Oh.

Actually they covered the nipples in DA:2; DA:O had bare breasted demon (succubi) DA:2 had ONE desire demon with nipple covers--curse those offensive nipples.
