Not everyone thinks that way, but if girls like you never speak up, I don't know how things are ever going to change in this industry.

Female objectification is so ingrained in my masculine synapses that I never even noticed how right you are about the CLICHES present in the Witcher 2's approach to casual sex.

Elven hooker you save from the fire: "Oh Geralt you saved me. There must be some way I can reward you."

Ves: "You showed me what a BIG STRONG MAN you are by not taking it easy on me. Let's have sex!"

Succubus: "please don't turn me into the fantasy-police. I'll make it worth your while."

Thanks Missouj. I'll try to keep in mind that women don't actually act, like this, WILLINGLY.
And I'll try to notice these objectifying cliches (which "someguy" and "slimgrin" have no problem with) in other games

She won't fall in love with you just because you agree with her, you know

heh, this reminds me of the japanese culture, it really ought to spread more to the western world. especially their acceptance of the subcultures

@ ZLurps Yes, there are deffinetly problems with both female and male presentation in romance literature aimed at women (there's a mountain of wrong in the Twilight series alone), and it shouldn't go unchallenged. My point is, we should portray both relationships and sex in a tasteful manner, and when it fails to do so, inspect what went wrong.

Giving more options to customers I think is great, discussing about media and it's way to portrayl of genders is great too.

Then, some things are easier to point out than others, but to go and define what is normal, what is acceptable and so on... I don't know if I want to go there.
I can voice my concern and my dissapointed with something, in the end I  won't buy product that I don't like and so on. Then, everybody else have the same right.

Subject, while worth debating isn't easy and I think it's very important to keep in mind that we are discussing about experiences that are very subjective and say my experience and taste isn't  > someone elses.

Well, it has a M for Mature rating. So yes, I think it's quite fine. Also, ****** and penis is waorse than death, maiming, interactive warfare and kids being vaporized? All out war, death, and destruction is fine, but the moment anything sexual happens, well ya know...the kids are gonna be corrupted and all that jazz.
I should stop before this becomes a culture war.

this made me laugh, then it made me cry

such things only exist in the western world, seems one of the few benefits of being in Hungary is not having such absurd double-standards

if a game is rated M the devs shouldn't get scared of showing mature content in it (other than killing), of couse it would have to make sense, but if a char goes into a strip bar or somesuch it should be different from what you can expect walking in daylight on an Earth street (lets not even discuss imagined alien cultural differences)

hahaha.. 'dirty minds' indeed.. see what i mean? japanese subcultures have nothing to do with tentacles. I think most people end up just being scared of their own positive reaction to something just to 'fit in' with the negative attitude which is more acceptable to the communities unable to beak away with the tradition of "smother everyone who is different"

what happened to - to each one their own? or live and let live without predjudice?

agreed, anime/manga/ect truly helps one to get more open and accepting towards the non-norm

as for "get turned on by naked animated characters":: people got turned on by paintings and sculptures since ancient times, through dark ages/renessaince up till today, people can also get turned on by books (no images at all) or movies. Is it really so hard to imagine if there are for Star Wars Princess Leia fantasiers that 3D or drawn characters can just as well be erotically and sexually attractive for some? Let's not even start listing things like the mermaid from DIsney what also got some people turned on.

I don't evey say all of them, just as one doesn't get (normally) turned on by every RL female human one sees, those who do like some characters from games/anime/ect doesn't mean they see all of them the same way either (I can't believe I have to extra point this out needing to be careful about "accidental" misunderstanding in possible replies to my post)

You don't like what others like? FIne, your choice, I am not into S&M either (an example of my long list of dislikes) but that doesn't mean I will go and write badly about them or look down on them, as long the 2 people in a partnership agree out of free will to do anything its okay in my opinion, and as for drawn and otherwise non-real characters ("partners") go they are not real people so what the heck is wrong with many people recently saying this or that is not right about them?

Same with absurd age debates on manga characters, if one draws a char they have the right to say what her imaginable age is or is not, the currently worsening morale police in USA and Japan make me facepalm more and more. Next time you realize they don't even allow drawn females to be depicted in swimsuits and bikinis anymore because the law has to protect the purity of unreal characters or something., and you get into jail because you have drawn a nude character. Poor artists, I already see how most of the museum stuff gets banned in 30-50 years. Historically famous painters and authors would have it bad in our current age, most likely even Shakespeare would have problems due to R&J

I was kidding, no one is forcing me to watch that.

I like the idea, but it's difficult to see it working in the west. We have many game studios, there are few publishers but how much options there are in the market really?

Sometimes something ground breaking happens, like ME series but most of it looks like competition to make the most generic product possible. How big is the difference between Call of Duty XIV and Medal of Honor IX really? I don't know.

I think the gaming industry is suffering from the same symptoms as movie industry. Everybody is recycling content instead of willing to take a risk with trying something new.

And how much room to manouver there really is? Just for fun and because I'm evil I have sometimes wondered how let's say video game audience would react to scene where some middle aged couple is destroying the bedroom while kids are at school?

What.. huh? OMG...   They... no wait,  they possibly can't ... oh but they are doing THAT too, they are totally... what now? ...  AARGH!

>:D

Might be fun, then I guess that would sell like both 2 copies. Team would get fired, not being able to pay their mortgages etc... Perhaps not the greatest idea.

Whoa, whoa, whoa! this is totally not a hentai discussion thread guys, no one has the right to tell you what is "appropriate ****** matierial" but this isn't the thread to discuss that issue either.

Thank you for all your ideas though.

Edit: PLZ stay on topic at least--fox news, media, PG-13, nudity, romance, etc.

oh yeah and lets not forget to break the penis of Michelangelo's David and replace it with a fig leaf as the church officials did in ancient times too.. while we're at it...

EDIT: all i'm saying by the time Michelangelo made his famous sculpture the times have substantially change to accept such a work of art without destroying it on some twisted principal, why allow media or anyone to throw us back into the dark ages of art desecration on a pricipal which generally noone even supports?

and the game devs even give people choice to pursue a romance or not to do it, it's not obligatory. thus if anyone is against it why did they even choose to play through the romances and then moan about it?

I just hope Fox News keeps away from now on, although it may be the "scandal" was even profitable for Bioware in the end

A Mass Effect sex scene isn't exactly David.

My point got circumcised by the move over here :pinched:. All I wanted to note is that people saying the sex scenes are awkward now. Well guess what, all animations in game cutscenes are awkward...so cut them all out?

Odd because the same people who want to censor ME, may also, want Michelangelo's statue censored as well. . .

People should be free to portray nudity no matter the medium.

Not gonna read this entire thread, but I wish Bioware had ignored all that Fox news bull**** and carried on with ME1 style 'tastefull' nudity rather than bra/panties on frontal nudity.

This is a mature rated game.

The fact that immature people play it is not your problem.

Well it's a mix of "yes," "no," and "lets not talk about it because it's a video game"
