I've always preferred custom femSheps in my games, most often blonde or redhead with an occasional brunette. Once in a while I'll play a default manShep, but I prefer to identify with my own gender.
I did create a custom one that looks similar to the default femShep, but I made her face appear a bit longer and a bit softer so that she looks a bit more feminine.
