I'm told that in the PC version you can simply mouse click on the aforementioned text and it will take you straight to the new item/entry but being that there's obviously no way to do that on the Xbox/PS3 do they really expect the player to stop what he's doing, open up his inventory and scroll through every single item or codex entry looking for whatever has been added? That seems completely asinine and is made only worse by the fact that AS YOU SCROLL you're de-highliting everything you pass over which means your only reliable way of telling what's new is trying to remember everything that was in your intventory/codex previously and picking out whatever doesn't look familiar.
Item Recieved/Codex Updated! WTF?

Most times if you see the update in the lower left of the screen and hit the Back button it will take you to that item/codex/quest etc.

If you've already pointed out that there's no way to do that on the xbox/ps3, then why are you calling it assanine? I feel that a far more efficient and reliable way to see whats new, (as opposed to memorizing your inventory) is to check your inventory before every quest, de-highlighting all the items in the process. That way when you receive new items they will be the only ones highlighted, it will be far easier to realize which of the four highlighted items you just received as opposed to the 30 you didn't bother to check in the past half hour

Part of the issue is there is no "page down" on the console. If your list of items/codex entries is more than full page, and your new item/entry is below what is displayed, you can't see the next 'page' of items without scrolling down and removing the highlight as you do. Certainly not game-breaking, but annoying.
As Bhouse pointed out, if you hit Back at the right time, the new entry codex will be selected, but it doesn't help if you pickup an item and a codex entry at the same time.

I noticed the same with the entries or simultanous actions (items, entries, level up, quest updates and so on). A bit annoying, thats true. A scroll-down for the codex entries without marking new entries read would be nice. Maybe there will be a solution in combination with other buttons @ Bioware?

I'd like a solution. I don't always want to read every single codex entry. Breaks immersion.

This is really very annoying. I want a solution too.

I don't really see much of a way to change this, unless hitting the back button brings up a prompt asking "Do you want to view: A) New Codex entry(ies)
New item(s)" but that does seem like a pain in the behind.

I've found this annoying also. When you scroll through the coded, if you could see that an entry is new while it is selected and then mark it as old once you move off of it would be best.

/agree This is quite annoying. The implementation of "highlighted" for new but no way to get past certain highlighted items without marking them as being read is pretty clunky and dumb. Like the previous poster said they should make removing the "new" highlight a player action not scrolling action. Two options: mark item as read and mark all as read. Problem solved.

Yea, just like the inventory. New items have a very thin yellow border. You can see it but if you scroll your mouse wheel too fast ,this is a worthless effort.
Codex you have to select to mark read thou so this is better.

Extremely extremely extremely annoying... also the fact that you can't see what new highlighted items or codexes are if it's below the current page.

What about no "item/money received" shown after stealing is successful? I don't know what I have stolen!
