Oh come on the game theme have always been about technology singularity. this kind of these have been done in so many scifi that A.I are just bad for any civilizations that goes to far with. that a look at stargate, battlestar galactica, dune, startrek and many more. the point of the matter is sovereign did tell you about who build the mass rely and explain that all civilizations that uses their technology to advance in the path they choose.
So where on earth did this "Tech Singularity" junk come from, and why is it the new "villain"?

Once you get the prothean, he provides more explanation on the dangers of AI in his cycle.

I would have much preferred if the reapers purpose was to use organic resources to eventually be able to stop the universe expansion and eventual doom (ie dark energy).
I really dont like the route they took, Reapers where supposed to be the pinnacle of artificial intelligence and synthetic life-forms, but now with this turn of events it appears they actually arent even AI:s but rather hybrids or transcended organics which i guess means they have a "organic mind" or "Soul", unlike real AI:s.
While the tech singularity is the evolution of real AI:s like the Geth and apparantly much superior to the Reapers. Although i dont see why the reapers would be unable to advance in technology and intelligence at the same rate as real AI:s, and if they can, why would the tech singularity be dangerous if Reapers basically are the same thing then, only with an organic base?
Is there any explanation to that?

Quite frankly, if AI is so dangerous, maybe they shouldn't be taking 50,000 year naps. You'd think that super dreadnoughts could make for anti-AI task force. But noooo.
hm...as we have - so far (not counting the incomplete human one) - only seen reapers of one form, maybe they really only "preserve" one species and maybe they "die" - or leave for parts unknown after having preserved the new ones?
just a thought...but yeah, reapers would really be a mean anti-tech-singularity taskforce...still, i think it is bad writing, too - even more as i do not believe that technology can evolve on it's own (and AI-Research is banned in citadel-space anyway!)...i mean, no amount of calculating power will make a computer really sentient, if you do not programm it to be that way...IMHO even the geth are only "alive" because their creators made them adaptable etc., without that, technology just is and does not evolve without organic input/development (i mean: if you build a computer, the computer just exists, but without you using it to build a better one, the computer will be like it is now forever, as it is in no way really intelligent - it only performs a function (calculating) faster then a normal human brain does!)

Short answer - during a trip to the head.
They pulled it out of their butts for ME3. It was originally based on the Dark Matter buildup - which was a take off on the Inhibitors from Alastair Reynolds books (starting with Revelation Space)
Which would make a lot more sense considering the hints in ME2 <_<
It really feels like the entire ending was pulled out of the writer's ass last minute. They probably wasted the rest of the time comming up with enough cheesy one liners to fill the dwindling number of dialogue options.
