Who ever said this gun is useless on Gold clearly doesn't know the application and suppressive nature of it.
This, precisely.
With decent Clip Size and Stability mods, this weapon becomes the pinacle of suppressive fire and the ultimate Squad Assault Weapon. You can practically hold a line for what seems like forever. Line them up in a corridor and it just gets too easy. No you won't get ALL the kills. But I can safely promise you a ton of assists, not to mention it grabs aggro like crazy!!!
In any case, the weight of the damn thing should be a dead giveaway that the weapon is intended for firepower-heavy classes that will carry around more than one boomstick. My Turian Sentinel makes extensive use of it on Silver, provided I can carry along a Carnifex for sniping duties and I rarely get lower that second scores.
Plus, downing an Atlas in a single clip just never seems to get old...

I really don't understand all the people that praise the Revenant for its "suppressive" ability. First of all, enemies take cover regardless. Even if such a suppressive state exists for the enemy AI, why would you want them to take cover all the time in the first place? I'd rather they openly charge me so I can mow them down with more efficiency.
Secondly, theres no "aggro" mechanic. Enemies will shoot whoever is closest or out of cover first. You can hide behind cover all day with the Rev and nobody will shoot you any more or less than your buddy next to you thats constantly popping out of cover to shoot.

I am glad that you were able to make it tollerable with all that stuff, but imagine all of those buffs applied to an Avenger X, but exchange the scope for an extended barrel V.squidney2k1 wrote...
Back when I first booted up the multiplayer demo, I unlocked the Revenant in my starter kit. I also was using the Human Sentinel, so when I took that power-use heavy class out for a spin with the Revenant, I was extremely disappointed with it's unimpressive damage, horrible spread, and severe weight penalty. So I, like most players, set it on the backburner and eventually found my niche with the Mattock & Avenger.
As time when by, the Avenger and Mattock kept getting stat boosts. Level VI Avenger, Level V Mattock, Level X Avenger. Was there any need to ever stray from those 2 silky smooth, reliable Assault Rifles?
After fidling with the PC demo, a big fat YES
The problem is that the Revenant (much like the Sentinel) seems crippled from the start. It's only after the leveling that you find its true potential. Using a modded Coalesced.bin file in the PC demo, I ended up getting the Revenant all of the way up to rank VIII, and my God, is this thing good.
Revenant VII
Stability Damper V (+70% stability)
Precision Scope (+35% accuracy)
Assault Rifle Rail Amp II
Armor Piercing Rounds I
O.M.G. Now THERE'S my baby from Mass Effect 2!! Hell, it even seems better than its ME2 counterpart. The scope not only adds accuracy, but the increased ability to go full auto and land 70-75% of your shots at long range is incredible. The weight reduction makes it less punishing to choose over other guns, and the capacity and damage bonuses are putting it right back into its zone. The headshot multiplier is very generous, now that I can consistently land them at full-auto. Burst-firing is hardly necessary now. And with AP ammo and a Rail Amp, I'm ripping through Guardians by the droves, and chewing through a full-health/full-shields Centurian in half a clip or less.
TL:DR/Conclusion: The Revenant doesn't suck. It's just that when you compare a Revenant I/II to an Avenger X that most people already have, it's outclassed. But once you start to even out the ranks, it's clearly a much, much better gun that will satisfy the nay-sayers.
Don't ask me how I know about extended barrel. :innocent:

Agreed. Keeping two three soldiers busy in low damage suppressive fire is pointless when you can kill double the numbers in same time with a different weapon.
Widow 1 as well as Claymore 1 are better than X version of their counter parts but revenant isn't
that good compared to Avenger X. Here are two videos Avenger X and Revenant IV with Stability Upgrade V and Clip SIze V mods.

Don't care about the assault rifles. Besides, Drell must be snipers because there so weak.
I hate them Drells who run out with pistols and assault rifles and then die when a group of troopers come.
But Revenant is good though, for Soldiers and other classes.

Plenty of enemies that roam around and what I mean with suppresive is in the context of staggering and locking an enemy in place. Lovely for those Phantoms.
There is no Aggro mechanic and I never said there was one. All I am saying is that the ability to stagger and pump more then 100 rounds into the fray is more then enough to save a teammate or keep enemies in check.
I use my Turian Sentinel with the Widow and Revenant though, I don't know how useful this gun is on other classes. The Quarian Engineer was a fun one with a flamethrower turret. ;]

Rev X (with lvl5 mods) on a Turian Soldier with marksmanship (spec'ed for rate of fire+50%, accuracy+45%), and Turian Veteran(spec'ed for damage+30%, stability+55%) plus ammo 3 + AR rail amp 3.
It's noisey and it's fun but it's still completely useless on gold.
Incidentally the Turian soldier is just as completely useless as the other soldier characters.
Concussive shot is of moderate use (though only if you sacrifice firepower to maintain +200% regen).
Proximity mine on the other hand is laughably bad because of it's ridiculous cooldown time.
If it's cooldown was much shorter, or seperate from marksmanship there would be some kind of synergy there. (pop a prox. to debuff the enemy with damage vulnerability, and then pop marksmanship to gun them down).
However as it stands it's a pointless ability.

Now that I think about it, the Avenger really really sucked early on too. You couldn't kill anything with a single thermal clip, but you can take out two or three enemies once you get up around Avenger VII.GroverA 125 wrote...
If you say so. I will hold my judgement until after I can compare it at high levels. Mind you, all but the single-shot rare weapons are rather weak (look at the Hornet, Locust and Revenant) to begin with, so it could be that they recieve worthy power at the higher levels.

I love the Mattock assault rifle but I find my side arm Phalanx pistol does just as much damage. Pistols don't seem to have any cooldown penalties.
I loved the claymore in Mass Effect 2. I hope with the upgrades that shotgun actually becomes amazing.
So if I take your advice, and wait till Revenant rank VII I'll have an amazing assault rifle. Because my first ever usage had me shooting at an enemy for ten seconds before the enemy actually dying. I'm willing to have a harsh penality on cooldowns as long as the weapon is awesome.

Quite right there.
I am the ultimate soldier cynic. The only powers that the soldier had was adrenaline rush and concussive shot the latter being okay.
But when I tryed Krogan soldier. I was won over easily.
Sure he has a grenade which is okay and fortification (armour powers such as barriers, tech armour, geth shields and fortification don't interest me for some reason) but makes up for it with CARNAGE and RAGE!!!
Not only two awesome words in the english language but Carnage is my favourite power. It was the only power that kept me going as a soldier in Mass Effect 1. Also the heavy melee (sure it's not some flashy omniblade or badass biotic punch) is just great.
A Krogan charging is so simple, so effective and looks more badass since it is brute force that kills the enemy and not some space magic explained away by a "mass effect field".

You can be "ON" Adrenaline Rush pretty much all the time, which means +50% dmg for the duration of the map + passive skill dmg boost+ lvl3 single use assault rifle enhancement (+30% dmg) + lvl3 any type of ammo + Extended barrel mod (not available in the demo, +X% dmg). It is insane really, wish my laptop didn't suck, would make pretty awesome videos as proof. <3 Revenant X. You now, had to spend like 7 Million creds to get to X, and that's just the demo, in the full game you have much bigger weapon varaety, not to mention that it is classified as a "rare", there are "ultra rare" weapons like Javelin, Black widow...
