There's no saying what ME2's "default" story is yet, because ME3's not fully out yet, but the default choices from ME1 (if you didn't use the comic, Genesis) are as follows (as far as I know):

- no romance; the VS will be of the opposite gender from your character
- killed Council (can't remember who's the councilor, but I suspect it's Udina)
- killed Rachni
- killed Wrex (so Wreav, his brother, is in control on Tuchanka)
- in general, no sidequests were done (so you can never meet Fist on Omega or whatever)
- I think Feros is assumed to have all been killed off (along with Shiala)

Correct. Also Rana Thanoptis is assumed killed as well.

Ah, yeah, I forgot about her. That's true (and sad, because she is hilarious and I cannot wait to see what crazy situation she pops up in again in ME3!)

Feros isn't totally wiped out, the contract mission is in there with the default settings, although not with Shiala.

I gotta say, this almost ruined the game for me. I don't expect a perfectly completed game, and of course an imported character deserves more dialogue and quests, but forcing people to play a full ME1 playthrough just to get reasonable responses in the sequel is just ridiculous. I say ruined because hey, it's awful hard to get into the storyline of a paragon who was a racist, genocidal, self centered jerk just two years prior. Why they decided the default playthrough had to be full on renegade is beyond me, I just couldn't finish that game. There's already a conversation at the beginning with Miranda clarifying ME1 events, how hard would it have been to allow us to choose there?

Oh, and yea, of course Udina is the counselor, because the Shepard in the theoretical default playthrough is a flat jerk. All I can say is bless the folks at the ME1 save game website, without them ME2 would be pretty much unplayable for non renegades.

I wonder if ME3 will be similar, will importing an ME2 save be the only way to choose the final Paragon option offered in the main game? How long do you think you could play as a paragon when everyone is yelling at you for being a Cerberus stooge that gave TIM everything he wanted?

This sucks I was curious to see what was in this thread and sure enough spoilers. Why is this in the general discussion part of the forum where it says no spoilers.

If all the previous choices could be decided at the beginning of each game, it would render the last game pointless aside from the little bonuses you get from having done sidequests.  Nobody would play ME1 if they could just condense it into a short conversation at the beginning of the next game.

The idea is that the whole trilogy is one game in three "episodes".  You start at the beginning of ME1 and finish at the end of ME3.  I realize that that sucks for people who play on the PS3--I can't fathom why they would port ME2 but not ME1--but that's just how the games work, and it would defeat the whole idea of the series if the previous games were rendered obsolete as of the release of each sequel.

Quick question, would you say that 'Genesis' rendered ME1 pointless? Because honestly I'm asking for less than that.

But yes, 'all' choices would be far too much.. if you want to see the ramifications of a full playthrough it's only fair to actually do one. But I maintain offering a few major choices is only reasonable; yes I should play ME1 to get the full experience, but I shouldn't have to just to avoid being a self serving racist jerk. There are dozens of choices that have an impact, would it really ruin the balance so much to give me two or three on a new game? It really does effect the game experience if you take the story halfway seriously, really hard to be the savior of the galaxy after genocide and it's not like the npcs let you forget.

This of course is all completely ignoring cases where people did indeed play the first game but for whatever reason cannot import. Different platforms maybe, or perhaps it's been  years and they just want to pop in this new game and get going. Should it really be required to do a full playthrough of ME1 just to get a REASONABLE start in ME2? Importing is the optimum way to play the game, but it shouldn't be the only way.

Edit:
I think what I'm failing to get across is the one sidedness of it, if I had decided to start with a renegade nothing would have felt out of place at all. I dont want the extra dialogue/quests/discounts/etc, just something that fits with the character I want to play :)
