Game of Thrones RPG Official Trailer 2012: Click

The Wall Trailer: Click

Riversping Trailer: Click

Interview:

:( You: Why haven't I heard about this game?
 Me: Because they aren't advertising well enough. Shame really. It looks like it could be good.
:( You: Aye. That is a shame.
 Me: I know.
:( You: What do we know about the game?
 Me: Not much. It looks like a dark fantasy but we don't know much still. So if you could find some information and post it below...that would be appreciated.

The game looks nice. The graphics look dark and gritty and the game basically looks like Dragon Age: Origins and The Witcher 2 combined. Based on the limited knowledge we have, there are mutiple characters with storylines that eventually branch into one another. There's typical RPG customization and there's a heavy story which is being made in co-conjunction with George R.R Martin. The game is set in the A Song of Ice and Fire universe.

Will consequences and choices be in the game? Is the world open akin to Dragon Age: Origins or is it open akin to Dark Souls where there are no loading screens?

God knows why these poor fools aren't advertising this game because it looks like it could be great. Who doesn't want another dark fantasy RPG??? I wish they'd show some combat and other features releating to the RPG genre.

Who doesn't see how this looks like Origins and Witcher 2 combined?

The game doesn't shy away from scenes of sexual content. Will there be full nudity like Witcher 2 though?

Developer chatter from forum:

Questions:

1. Is the May release date still on, or has it been pushed back?
2. Is the world in the game sandbox type, or is it more similar to Dragon Age (a map with locations player can visit)?
3. How is the combat handled? Is it hands-on approach (like in Witcher 2) where you have to move the character, actually hit mouse keys to swing weapons and block, and dodge and move around with the keyboard? Or is it more tactical in approach (like Dragon Age, with orders given to the character with a mouse)?

Answers:

1. Yes, the May release date is still on.
2. It's more similar to Dragon Age (a map with locations player can visit).
2. The combat system is very tactical. You can give orders to your character or to your group of characters, and you have to make the good choices at the right time!

It seems the developers are a friendly bunch who won't shy away from answering questions. Sadly, the forums seem rather inactive and there's only two months till release. They are going to have a heavy task ahead for them in advertising.

It's on my radar. I wish them luck in sales and hopefully the game is great!

More questions and answers from the team:

Q: How much playing time is there? (as I know there are 3 characters)

A: There are two main characters, Mors and Alester. The playing time depends on how you like to play because there is a lot of sides quests. The main quest is quite long.

Q:When in time does this game take place compared to the series?

A: The game takes place during the first book, before the clash of kings.

Q: Is their any decision taking i.e. If i choose one decision it will impact the rest of the storyline e.g. I can choose to kill the man or I can choose not too or There is a target that I need maybe information from How do I ask for it or how do I enter a house: from behind? The window? Front door?

A: Yes, it's a real RPG, so you can make some decision that will impact the rest of the story, even a lot of chapters later!

Q: Is there character customization? Are the characters we can choose characters we know? and do each of them have a different special power?

A: You can customize both of the main characters. You can choose a class, specialisations, equipment, personality traits, etc.

I'm personally very excited to see how they'll handle different main characters, it could be intensely fascinating or detract from the experience as the player has trouble "fitting" with the characters.

The art style throws me off. I feel like its trying to be realistic, but it comes off as too videogamey/stylized for my liking.

Looks very nice, I'm not too familar with this developer though. Hopefully they can pull it off.

I still think a Total War style game in that world would be pretty cool.

A real time strategy Game of Thrones videogame was already published last year.

Same company, it wasn't great though.

Yeah, I heard real "meh" reviews for that one.

I don't know if I should grab this one or Risen 2, I won't be able to play until at least May so they'll both be out by the time I could grab one and they both look fun.

---

There's people working on a Crusader Kings II mod which would let you play in Westeros, though. Assuming you're interested in that.

I'm such a pathetic fan that I will probably end up buying this game even if it turns out to be total crap.

Me too.

Did the release date get pushed back? I saw May on amazon. But I though it was April.

The graphics look great. If there is a good character customization, I'm in! I'm so ready for May. 2 months of endless gaming with games like Dragons Dogma coming out.

I'm intrigued by this game, if not actually excited.

Problem that I foresee?
- release date same as Diablo III
- lack of advertising (game basically kept secret two months before launch)

@SOLID_EVEREST

There's no character creator as you play two preset characters but the official combat trailer shows that each character has several classes you can choose from and you can equip them with different armor and weapons.

Corto81 is right about the problems. There's a massive lack of advertising for this game. I've yet to see any previews for the game and the only preview I heard about came from OXM who saw the game (they haven't played it) so God knows whether it's good or not. I'll be waiting for reviews.

I hope it turns out good. For some reason, I foresee the game getting 7/10 from most sites but that's good enough for me to buy later on this year after Dragon's Dogma.

Really?

Maybe it's because I'm a fan of the franchise, but I remember hearing about this one and watching the first trailer way back before the strategy game was released.

I think I read about it on rock paper shotgun.

They do need to put up a proper pre-order page on Steam, though - if you search Game of Thrones, only the strategy game pops up.

I only found out about from it from a friend months after it was announced. Dragon's Dogma? I found out about it way back last year when it was announced on nearly every game site advertising it. Atlus is actually spamming across Twitter about this GOT game:

http://kotaku.com/58...hrones-spam-bot

On another note:

http://kotaku.com/58...ually-happening

The combat uses what he called an "active pause system," which he compared to the battle system from BioWare's Knights of the Old Republic. "You pause the game to give orders, but it doesn't really pause, it slows the time down. You can see something coming and react to it."

As for the story and general design, Bordeleau told me that it would be "Less action than Mass Effect 2, it's closer to Knights of the Old Republic and the firstMass Effect. It's all about the storyline." He was cagey about how much choice would be involved in the game, but he did share in a follow-up email that "some of your actions and choices will have consequences in the game story"

In a very promising sign, Bordeleau mentioned that the developers are big fans of the storytelling in Planescape: Torment, and that fans of the art design and storytelling in that game will find a lot to like in the Game of Thrones RPG.

Here's the combat video for those who missed it:

I think I heard something about this once, months ago, but more or less forgot about it. They really need to work on their advertising.

I'm probably going to get this. Love the HBO series a little too much to pass up on an RPG. And I must profess my love for the art direction. It looks 100% better than the recent BioWare style post Origins. Won't mean much if the game sucks, of course.

Elton John Is Dead's topics are literally the only times I've heard of this game. It might as well be some obscure independent game.

I'm guessing they chose to wait for Game of Thrones Season 2 to kick off before starting the hype machine..
..Which means the said machine should start hyping **** up right about now.

You must keep in mind, Cyanide is not a major publisher, like Square Enix, Valve, Bethesda, EA, etc.

If you look at their website, they are a small group of former Ubisoft employees who have done mostly cycling and rugby simulator games so far. The only game I've ever heard of that they already released is the Game of Thrones strategy game, which seemed to be a very small launch.

If I understand correctly, these guys picked up the AGOT license at some point after Bethesda passed and before the HBO series was greenlit. Marketing and ad buys for a high profile cross platform release can easily surpass tens of millions of dollars. Maybe they simply don't have that kind of budget and they are hoping to build word of mouth among GRRM fans?

EDIT:  It seems Cyanide is not self-publishing, rather it is Focus Home Interactive. which is still a relatively small publisher.

Mildly interested, but they have no experience with RPGs and they're showing and saying so little that I'm more than a bit suspicious. No budget for massive advertising is one thing, but I remember visiting the game's web page a couple of months ago and finding literally NOTHING about the game other than the generic "we're making a GoT game" statement, a few "stay tuned" lines of vague promises and a couple of screenshots. No FAQs, nothing about the characters, the setting, the combat, gameplay mechanics, unique features... I've seen more informative web pages for indie games, really.
Hmm...
Don't know if that has changed now, but if a customer wants to learn more about your game and you give him so little, you're either very naive or you don't want him to know more.

It's changed. I did include the official site in the original post. They've updated it.

I'm still suspicious since we've only seen one gameplay video.
