Actually we rarely see any "within transit" Omega was the first.

So we know it's not instant. THE GAME SHOWED IT.

You must now account for why.

Codex. Go read it.

PS. You're. Still. Wrong.

As long as the Omega Relay wasn't instant, you are disputed. If one example of you being wrong exists, you can not be right, this is how logic works.

Don't blame me, blame Bioware. They wrote the canon, canon states it's instant. So you're still wrong.

Sucks to be you.

I know I was able to read the Codex at least, contrary to some people.

Bioware retconned a fictional technicality for dramatic effect.

*spoiler alert*

In one of the leaked endings, the one where joker dies, they're in a mass transport conduit for what feels like a good 30 seconds trying to outrun a blast that clearly is traveling beyond FTL capabilities.

This brings up a curious question: if they're traveling at FTL speeds, how do they, or we, see the explosion behind them even? In reality, people wouldn't see the glow of the exploding relays for centuries, seeing as they're...oh yeah, light.

Unless light has suddenly become capable of FTL speeds as well...

*Pai Mei beard stroke*

Perhaps it's just pointless to debate the logistics of an entirely fictional science in an entirely fictional scientific universe. Because Bioware clearly retconned their own logistics for dramatic effect. And how one feels about that is up to them.

If you were to accelerate light through a massless corridor right behind a ship also accelerated, the light would not be FTL, it would merely be accelerated. The ship goes faster than light, the light trails just behind it. The issue is that the explosion of light and energy is being accelerated and is faster.

They crash on Ilos. Because there is a relay from Ilos to the Citadel and the Citadel falls to Earth with Shepard on it. Critical Mission Success!

*Shhhhhhhhh! This is my headcanon!!*

Also, from the wiki (which presumably is modded by enough fanboys to be correct):

"Mass Relays are mass transit devices scattered throughout the galaxy, usually located within star systems. They form an enormous network allowing interstellar travel. Hailed as one of the greatest achievements of the extinct Protheans, a mass relay can transport starships instantaneously to another relay within the network, allowing for journeys that would otherwise take years or even decades with only FTL drives."

Based on the fact that we've seen mass relay transfer in the game and it's not within 1 millisecond transfer, we can safely assume that instanteous is more along the lines of 20 - 30 seconds.

Wouldn't be because your computer is loading the new system would it?
