Running out of stamina/mana?

I find my characters get tired/run out of mana pretty quickly.  There are lyrium potions for mana, but all I've found to bump stamina is mushrooms, and the amount is tiny - are they the only thing or is there something I'm missing that bumps stamina substantially, like lyrium does mana?

General point for debate: does anyone else think the stamina/mana regen is generally a bit slow?  I'm now on a Nightmare game with a Mage, and I'm finding I'm chugging lyrium like an addict in every fight.  Is that the way it's supposed to be, or, again, am I missing something?  I mean, I do have Willpower as second stat on all my mages, but maybe there's something else, some synergy with another stat, or a trick that boosts the regen rate or something?

(This isn't a complaint btw, I'm quite happy, just wondering about it and inviting a discussion on the pros and cons, ins and outs, ups and downs, whys, wherefores and howsyourfathers :) )

Yeah it's slow.

Use rejuvenate, or drop some more fatigue if that's possible.

Remember to don't have too many sustained abilities at the same time.

Also remember to cast wisely, don't blow a heavy mana spell on a target which is almost dead.

Willpower is a very important stat to invest in. Manage your fatigue and your sustained abilities.

If you're a mage you can use the Blood Mage and Arcane Warrior specs to avoid using lyrium potions. BM since you can now use your health to fuel your spells and AW since you can become a meleer once you run out of mana. I've found that as long as you aren't fighting a boss, if you're careful with your mana you can generally eliminate every serious threat with magic in your opening salvo leaving only the white melee enemies to fight. An AW can clean those up with no problem with buff and bash. The only time I've had to use lyrium potions is during boss fights and I'm playing on nightmare.

Edit: The stamina regen could be faster, it would be a nice way to balance out benefit of lyrium potions that mages have.

Wherefore = why.

The strangeness of the lack of stamina potions is that they were available in the Flash game that was published before the release of the game proper.  So they probably weren't included in the game, since it was finished months in advance for PC, but the developers of the Flash version realized there needed to be some sort of stamina restorative.

I want to say that the game didn't intend on abilites to be spammed, and for finite resources to be a serious strategic consideration, but the abundance of lyrium potions of all grades seriously dilutes that argument.

Wrong, I have little to no points in Will and I roll with 3 casters with ALL points in magic and it shreds so much that mana regen is hardly needed. I use no sustained abilities whatsoever except threaten and tbh I only use 2-5 mana pots on bosses at most.

Thrash dies so fast because of AoE stacks that running out of mana is not even remotely possible.

I'm on Nightmare in my first play through on PC btw.

but hey what do I know ;)

there are also items and armor sets that either increase your stamina/stamina regen/make abilities use less stamina, such as a regular suit of chainmail decreases the cost of your abilities. Watch out for those items and use them if you can find a way

Weirdly, Willpower is more important for non-Mages, in my experience.  The only Mages I worry about WP for are my healers.

I think the most common mistake I see people doing is turning on sustains before battle.

Turning sustains on AFTER you spend mana equivalent to their upkeep goes A LONG WAY in managing your mana spenditures.
