Are Mass Effect Sex Scenes too PG-13

Sorry if this has been posted before. And I'd like to begin by saying that,  I was always satisfied with the amount of "skin" shown in ME1&2.

I grew up playing games like "Conker's Bad Fur Day" and "God of War" (in middle school), so it's not like the topic of sex never came up in games before--they just never showed anything "graphic." However, when I looked at the "Launch-Trailer thread" someone actually complained that Ashley was wearing a sport bra/bikini top in the sex scene.

I never minded that sex was censored in games. But I didn't play games like "Witcher 2" when I was growing up, so I was just wondering, do people think  "Mass Effect Sex" is too PG-13 for a game about adults trying to save the galaxy?

Once again,  This thread is not about the NEED for sex-scenes in games. They exist, and they are in the game.

This thread was made to ask the question if these scenes needed more sexual "realism."

Many people have said "no we like our romance tasteful." Many say "yes we like our pixelated boobs in the buff." But I just wanted to know what other people thought.

Another question I wanted to ask was: do people think BW should be concerned about media backlash for sex-scenes anymore?

or is this a silly phobia, with more sexually graphic games like the Witcher 2 not catching any heat?

I thought the sex scenes were great in ME1, definitely not too PG-13. In ME2 it was more about the romance than just sex, which I must admit I really got into. As far as the scenes go I thought they were too PG-13 in ME2, but in ME1 they were more for adults than teenagers in my opinion. I hope they show a lot more skin in ME3.

They're probably not PG enough, given the grief they're sure to get from Fox News again.

I have somewhat strange view of that... If kids see any sex scenes they are either too young to understand them, therefore, it means nothing to them. Or they are old enough to know what does it mean, in which case, well, they already know about that and censuring it won't make any difference (they'll find another way to "see what they are interested in and want to see). I allways thought violence was more of an issue then sex scene. But, this is only my personal opinion. M.

I made another thread in the General ME forum, and a lot of people felt the same way Jaysh. But other people brought up that BW self-censorship might be due to Fox news' overeation to ME1.

So another question I wanted to ask was: do people think BW should be concerned about media backlash for sex-scenes anymore?

Bioware needn't care about what Fox news thinks, especially after Fox news admitted that they were 100% clueless about what ME actually was.

Fox ignored Witcher 2, they'll ignore everything else from this point on.

I blame the current rating system. An "A" rating would be a death sentence for Mass Effect, considering they are marketing their game at a general audience. They have to be very careful.

But I agree.. Sex scenes are underwhelming. It's pretty ridiculous that movies and tv shows can show nudity but it's taboo for video games to do so.

"Lol only kids play video games u can't put that in there." - Logic of an out of touch, elderly video game rater. If only they were rated by the actual consumer.

Gratuitous gore, violence, and foul language? Check.

I don't think BW should be concerned at all. Parents will buy their kids games without looking at the ratings, which shows a lack of parenting skills on their part. ME was never intended for children, nor will it ever be.

if they actually show graphic sexual scenes (actual sexual acts taking place, ie porn) then the game would have to be rater AO. which then would not be allowed to sold in stores and only online, or sexual based stores.

The Witcher 2 showed the sex (But not the actual penetration). Dante's Inferno also depicted sex, if I'm not mistaken.

The Wticher 2 is rated M, as is Dante.

Oh man, I'd love to see that report:

Fox News:  "Did you know you were buying you're kid a sex simulator?"

Parent: Image IPB "No"

FN: "Have you ever played the game?"

P: "No."

FN: "How would you like to speak, as an expert, on one of our television shows?"

P: Image IPB "Of course."

Do we really need more explicit sex scenes? Or are we all just desperate to see more ****** material?

"More"?

When has ME ever had explicit sex?

ME1 had some butt shots and side boob. Miranda and Jacob (The 2 steamiest sex scenes in ME2) just depicted foreplay and buildup. Miranda's bra and Jacob being shirtless don't really scream "Porn!" to me.

Oh come on.. Let's not turn this into a porn vs. art debate. Nudity can be and many times is handled tastefully.

The irrational fear of the naked human body is an archaic way of thought. But I guess we have Adam and Eve to blame for that.

Should've worded it diferently. I meant sex scenes becoming more explicit.

But that's besides my point, there's really no need for them to be so. The scenes should be about the romantic feelings of the characters.

Now now, I'm not saying nudity can't be done tastefully. However, we as gamers can not interpret it as tasteful. Maybe once gaming fanbases mature I'd be fine with seeing more explicit love scenes.

The romantic feelings between the characters are elaborated upon in the conversation build up. With the exception of Jacob, I think they all do their jobs fairly well.

The purpose of the romance scenes are to show the culmination between Shepard and his/her partner. With the exception of Kelly, I think they all do their jobs pretty well.

Sex is an inevitable part of romance. At least for adults. Where do you think these "romantic feelings" lead to?

I can interpret it. Tons of other people can interpret it... Who has trouble with it? People who have never seen an R rated movie? I don't get it.

Also, this. Shepard and his/her partner aren't naive schoolkids. They are grown adults.

I'd rather they spend the resources on more dialog than sex animations.

That's what it comes down to for me.

Apparently there's sideboob in this game so certain people will be happy.
