Having to wait three bloody days longer than other people is a pathetic excuse for pirating any game.

Really?!?

Even if the publisher is sitting on your money for those 3 days (and longer if you pre-ordered)?

I am of the opinion you can 't consider a product pirated if you've already paid for it and are not distributing it further.
I can't stress this enough - just an opinion, I'm not advocating piracy.

Some stores here in the Netherlands are already selling the game tomorrow. Yay and of course I have pre-ordered, so I'll have to wait regardless. :(

He explains it in the first half of the video. He gives the whole history of it so it's not a one sentence answer. I'll paraphrase what he said to you:

It's a remnant of an outdated practice about handling the retail distribution of movies--and by extension, games--from the 90's that has not changed since.

The outdated practice goes as follows: most things used to come out at the end of the week, as still happens in Europe. However, Wal-Mart needed extra time to stock things on the shelved before the end of the week. So they get things on Tuesday, giving them three extra days before Friday. And because Wal-Mart is the big distributor in the U.S., all American stores benefit from these extra days.

Flashfoward to present time and now shipping is more efficient and quicker, so Wal-Mart and other U.S. stores don't need the extra days to stock the shelves, but we still have the Tuesday release. So actually, the extra time to stock has become extra time for Americans to possess the product.

I can only speak in terms of the UK, if I remember right, (new releases) music is Monday, DVD's Wednesday and games are Friday. Sometimes if the release is big enough, we will see Tuesday releases for some games. GTA4 got a Tues launch, and while Modern Warfare got a plain Friday launch, the sequel secured a Tuesday launch.

A Tuesday launch was useful if the release would dwarf any other release that week, so we could use all the promotional displays for that release, instead of having to share shelf space with other Friday releases. For GTA4, on Monday we decked the store out with GTA4 promo. Tuesday it released, and by Thursday it would share promo space with other new releases for Friday. It's very likely that the above is just retailers adapting to the release date system, like the old pub closing times, it's just something that's been there for a while.

My guess (is the obvious, but still) is that either EA wanted a staggered launch or retailers didn't think it was big enough to put the time (it's not all sitting around in a PC/Console game store!) into a Tuesday launch. One way to hazard a guess at which it could possibly be: take a peek at your local GAME, Gamestation etc. and see if the store is completely plastered with ME3 promo stuff, if so, I'd go for staggered launch!
