Good day,

I'm having some issues running Baldur's Gate: Tales of the Sword Coast,
which I bought through GamersGate recently as part of an anthology deal.

My issue is that the game crashes immediately after completing or
skipping the final opening video, the one with the nietzsche quote. I'm
running it on Windows 7, and have even changed the compatibility of the
game to run on Windows XP SP2 and I have it running under Admin state. I've tried pressing ALT+Enter to make it run windowed, but it still crashes.

Can anyone help me out? I can offer more info as necessary.

FYI: I'm actually trying to do the guide at Destructoid for a more complete game experience (http://www.destructo....2-222096.phtml),
but it also won't install all the files probably due to some issue with
the BG1 not having config files set up, since I can't get to the game start
page.

The guide you're talking about is pretty short of detail, but the installation order looks like it could be dodgy. Please post your Weidu text file (which you should find in your BG2 directory) so we can see the order of the things you've installed.

Hi. I just uninstalled the two games, and am currently trying to install Baldur's Gate and Baldur's Gate 2 one at a time. I'll update here as soon as I install the two, but before I do the modding, as I can't even install mods into BG1 due to the mods not finding the game, even if the mods are in the folder already.

EDIT: Just installed BG1 by itself into a folder C:\\GAMES\\DungeonsDragons InstallationFolder\\BG1 and that did absolutely nothing to help, as BG1 refuses to play past the opening video.

Should I try redownloading the 10 GB installer?

I haven't heard of the Gamers Gate version before. Is that already fully patched (like my version from GOG)?

I had a quick look at their web-site, which says the game requires XP or Vista. Have you checked on their site somewhere that their version is also supposed to run on Windows 7? If not, then that might be your problem.

OK. I think you already know not to install it to the default program files location. Other than that the most likely problem I would suggest is interference from another program you've got running. Try turning off all other programs (like virus checker and internet browser) before installation and when first starting it. Introductory movies can certainly be sensitive to some browser add-ons.

Hi. Sorry for the late reply. Was sleeping (live in Philippines).

I'll try reinstalling the games on a fresh reboot without opening anything, and closing any "open at startup" programs. :D

I've also sent a ticket to the folks at Gamersgate, and I hope they come back with a solution soon.

Well, I think I found some sort of answer to my question by a bit of luck. Found a site called Gaming Wiki which aims to basically be the wiki of gaming support for every game ever created, and here's what they had to say about Baldur's Gate:

Older versions, such as the original release, may have issues running on newer machines. Avoid the Dungeons and Dragons classic Anthology, as it not only has issues installing on newer operating systems but also will not work with Baldur's Gate Tutu or Baldur's Gate Trilogy.

Really wish I didn't waste my money on something I couldn't play then. :(

Can you provide a link for that? I'd like to make it known on GOG, that the extra money the GOG version will cost you, is worth it - if it's true the Gamersgate version is incompatible.

Hello. Sorry for the delay.

Just noticed the new comment now.

The link I found is from PC Gaming Wiki at http://pcgamingwiki....i/Baldur's_Gate but it doesn't really have citations, since it would be difficult to cite personal testing from wiki writers.

I know this is an old post but I wanted to add to it anyway for people who happen to stumble upon this thread regarding the digital version of D&D Anthology Masters Collection and the Destructoid/GOG Trilogy installation guides. I recently bought the digital D&D Anthology myself and the vanilla version runs fine(I'm running Windows 7 64 bit) I'm assuming gamersgate updated their pre-patched version. The only issue I had was that there was an error while installing BGT: "Invalid Baldur's Gate directory, or
incorrect Baldur's Gate installation".

It wasn't installed to the root of my hard drive but the directory path still wasn't detected. I was prompted to enter the path manually in the command-line and that didn't work either. I checked the pc gaming wiki and saw that the disc based version required the BGate2.mpi file be copied from the disc. Obviously this wasn't an option but before I went looking online for a copy of the file, I decided to try something on a hunch.

I renamed the Baldur's Gate directory and removed the apostrophe so that the name would be DOS syntax friendly and that solved the problem. From there the rest of the mod(s) installed smoothly.

Just to specify in case of disparity in the installation order, I didn't use the guide on destructoid, I followed the guide on gog http://www.gog.com/n...ate_from_gogcom I will attempt to add the BGT mod and the digital D&D anthology specific solution to the pc gaming wiki page.

~Cheers
