As we know it, the Mass Effect universe will be forever changed due to these endings, and I think that's what is upsetting a lot of people, myself included.

The little details in things, like reading on codex entires on Turians and how some have embraced Zen Buddism from contact with humans, or what the galaxy's opinions on the Salarian military are.

All of that will be gone, really.

True, they CAN make a prequel, but it'll forever be shadowed by the looming presence of the Reapers in the not-too-distant future.   If they make a sequel, it will have to be thousands of years into the future and we will barely recognize the game - it will be Mass Effect only in name.

To me, ME3 marks the end of the Mass Effect universe. Doesn't feel the same without Shepard, honestly.

Epilogue aside, which can easily be explained anyway as it being a big galaxy and like looking for a needle in a haystack, I don't think it would take that long. At least we have blowed-up relays to study now - decent enough chance we could figure out how to build new ones.

And there's other plot devices that would work too.

But "thousands of years" is a pretty big exaggeration.

Man cant believe just a week ago I literally jumped for joy at the thought of mass effect 3... then what do you know, I'm told that even though I have fallen in love with this game it's still gonna have a $****y ending. It felt like a punch to the quad.

I won't, I find that the endings open up all tons of possibilities.

I think they did it because they don't want to make anymore single-player ME games. Just MMOs.

I hope they don't take the MMO route with it; even though I'm pissed about the way Shepard's story ends I'd love more single player RPGs set in the ME universe.

Don't forget the ever popular Map packs and weapon packs.Cheaper to make and can sell for many creds.

Space magic is common in the ME series, from beacon transferring ancient memories to the Cipher making Shepard and honorary Prothean. In Overload, Shepard more or less becomes living data, sees the past without viewing it on a log, and kills geth that rather than falling over dead seem to explode into coding.

...Is it REALLY that hard for people to believe that the remains of the mass relays/drive cores might suddenly reactivate, opening up another story arc? I mean, seriously. ME is more or less heroic fantasy with a space age paint job, not hard sci-fi.

To add to this, the Protheans were pretty close to figuring out mass relay technology.  And like I said in the above post, we now have some blowed-up mass relays we can study, presumably.

Also, some of you folks are vastly underselling the effectiveness of conventional FTL in this universe.  According to the wiki at least, it's about 12 light years a day.  That would mean getting to Noveria (in the Horse Head Nebula) in about 4 months.  Illium (in the Crescent Nebula) in about 14 months.  It's a bit of a haul, sure, but it's feasible, at least to be able to share information and scientific progress.  The biggest problem you'd run into isn't so much getting there in general, it's finding enough good places to discharge your drive core along the way, since a lot of the route probably isn't mapped.

Pretty much all game sites like IGN and other bigs ones are commenting on the Mass Effect MMO that BW hinted at when asked about ME3. They figure why release a game every 3 - 5 years that only get us a few million, when we can make an mmo and get a few million ppl to pay us $15 a month even though they tank in 6 months.

Read my above posts... the universe isn't really all that screwed...

The complaints about the Normandy thing I get, but the relay thing isn't really so bad when you think about it.

There is the problem. Most do not think. I for one care not about the endings. My mind sees a bad ending (which is often) and creates its own with no more worse for wear.

No they essentially rebooted the universe if they want to continue the franchise, all the technology all those worlds, GONE
so the can have their genric sci fi MMO.

And yet... I applaud them for that move. I for one can hardly think of a franchise that has done this. Atleast no scifi universes. Death Gate Cycle did this  and I thought it was the best move they could make.

Death Gate Cycle, if you were wondering is one of my favorite fantasy works. Its from the authors of Dragonlance. Its about 18 years old. Dang, I feel old again.

Wait, what?  What worlds are gone?  There are no worlds gone.  The relays and synthetic life are destroyed, that doesn't mean we're back to using bows and frickin' arrows.

The relays went supernova except earths because space magic, and all the mass effect technology broke..somehow.
