I thought one of BioWare's people said on twitter that you would have to buy all of your fish again even if they were alive at the import. It also seems unlikely that they would require the fish to get the best ending. I figure it'll be an easter egg, nothing more.

I think the majority of people who import will have bought the fish, the issue is if they cared enough to keep them alive and if they did and Kelly was all happy about it and she was alive, then potentially she would have taken care of the fish when she left and when she meets you again she gives you them back and when you return them to the fish tank... SOMETHING happens.

Back in January, I went and bought all of the fish and got all of the model ships on my saves before import - although one save wasn't able to get one model ship because I chose not to do Tali's loyalty mission.  The problem is that neither of my saves romanced Kelly.  Hopefully that isn't required to get "fish" intel, but either way, I doubt that it will do too much to change things.

If players have to play the game the game, beat it, start NG+, play it again, beat it again, and then talk to Liara JUST for an Easter Egg... then that's just terrible.

That would definitely suck if we had to romance Kelly for the fish. Never liked her. I was tempted to stall before the suicide mission just so I could kill her.

Okay. So pretty much to not get the **** 3 buttons ending I have to do evrry sidequest and be the best at diplomacy? Seems easy as a full Paragon.

No, it's more an option available, not a force. Don't misinterpret.

It's forced.

Why is multiplayer even involved in a single, key word here, single, player game?

Because they wanted to bring multiplayer, since it was asked for.  However, they wanted to allow it to have some impact on the main game.  They have said, time and time again, that you can get the best ending without frelling multiplayer.  Pay.  The frell.  Attention.

Xoi and Tank also have both gotten the best possible ending without using multiplayer, and simply doing everything in the single player mode.

I never asked for this.

Good thing the game doesn't revolve around you.

I think this multiplayer thing is idiotic and shouldn't affect my single player game.

It doesn't unless you want it to.

I believe if you don't import your multi character to your game, it doesn't affect it.

So if I import a file which spans from ME1 to ME2 I don't need to play any bull**** multiplayer to get the best ending?

Provided you complete what should be completed and get your war assets up in the singleplayer version of the game, yes.

What do you mean what should be completed?

Multiplayer sure seems 'de facto' required to me too. Chalk it up as one more lie IMHO.

Does anyone have a chart or anything showing what is needed to get each ending yet?

And I certainly don't mean to sound rude but c'mon guys - a secret ending depending on whether or not you bought a certain fish?! That does seem to be a wind-up; we've seen plenty e.g. that guy with a friend at Eurogamer confirming more endings, plus on other forums I saw someone claiming to work at Bioware promising different endings in the Day One patch

Hope for the best, prepare for the worst...

It's still a bunch of BS that you have to play multiplayer to get the best outcome without doing every single little thing in single player. It IS forced for that reason alone. The fact that the GR meter will decay for every day you don't play the multiplayer only proves this. Long gone are the days when you can play a really cool game in single player. Either the developers short shrift the single player story in favor of focusing primarily on a multiplayer format or you get this crap.

You still  only get three endings but your over all readiness determines whether or not by destroying the reapers, if you see Shepard take a breath.
